heres a couple things from the FAQ
concerning evil playable races
- For many reasons, we have concluded that alignment would not be appropriate to the world of LOTRO at launch
concerning pvp
While there is some (but very little) precedent for PvP in the lore, it doesn't fit into Tolkien's world in the usual way that PvP fits into MMORPG's. In light of this, the design team is looking at PvP alternatives that will satisfy those who enjoy competitive play, while preventing scenarios such as Elves "ganking" Hobbits in the Shire.
now imo it sounds like the devs want to find a way to ADD pvp into the game but it will not be at release because of time restrictions, ( if they wanted to add evil races they would have to build isenguard and mordor) u never kno though they could add orukhai as a playable race at the rohan expansion, since they have to build isenguard in that area.
now alot of the ANTI-PVPers will question me but i say this to you, Not only does this game have the best setup and story for Team PvP good vs evil, but it will have the most sucess rate of balance out of any MMORPG if it does take a similuar path at a later date through expansions.
why? because thier is no casters. the hardest thing to balance in MMO pvp is melee vs caster balance and in LOTRO thier is such a smooth outline.
guardian - the tank
champion - light tank dps
burglar - leather dps stealth class
minstrel - the light dps group oriented or utility class
captain - the medium dps, some group buffs
hunter - the only class that would require any attention to balancing... the archer.
loremaster - the only cloth wearer in game, and only heals maybe some light utility spells.
you cant ask for a better setup for pvp then that....seriously.
only thing that ruins this is the people who expect to play evil and have same ammount of content as the good side, devs would need to clearly state evil side has severly limited content, quests, ect.
it would be like playing the game on Hard mode. dont expect anything except being able to hunt in the wilderness to level up. ( possibly a couple quests from saruman or high ranking oruks)
but to the people like myself whos dreaming of the actual thought of middle earth online with good vs evil across the lands, Team PvP wise, thier is still hope to look for the future, maybe not at release but the devs have not completely ruled out that thier will be absolutely no chance of being evil, and no chance of them adding pvp down the road, ( example look at EQ2 recent addition to pvp and they said it would never happen ) unfortunately i dont think LOTR will be a long time game if they dont add pvp. unless they figure out a way to let players raid areas like , barad-dur , minas morgul, moria, isenguard, blackgates - mordor , shevlobs liar - all places that in the true element of the tolkien story U SHOULDENT BE ABLE TO RAID, so i dont want to hear any complaints to tell me to STFU or pvp will never happen cause the devs should not be narrowminded when it comes to PvE and PvP, thier are many tolkien fans and all of them should be able to have thier own Dream version of online middle earth.
ok thats all the ranting and raving ill do for now =p
Comments
Im ok with no pvp at launch, I dont pvp that much anyways in mmo's. If they implemented a basic duel system like in eq2 or wow that would probably be enough for a while.
Im much more interested in crafting tho...I think that a key for long term success in any mmo is diversity in play style, and lets face it, theres only so many gnolls/goblins/spiders (put any monster here) you can kill in a day before it gets old and you want to do something else for a while.
