They've really done a bang up job with the PvE and community building in this game. Seeing 50+ people gather at Shaemoor to welcome new players was awesome even if a bit overwhelming for a new player. Raids will be awesome for people interested in that sort of thing (not me). Kinda wishing they'd rework WvW like a few other posters mentioned, it really needs a whole rework, not just a new map. But they're still doing a really good job overall. Stoked for Heart of Thorns.

I really hope there will be more freedom in your gear's stats than there is right now for PVE content. I don't have much hopes on that matter though, since it is up to the player base and I'm sure they will either keep the current meta or come up with a worse one.

For me the wiki states the number of maps most clearly. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2:_Heart_of_Thorns#The_Heart_of_Maguuma
Four open world maps made up of three distinct biomes The roots, which run deep beneath the jungle The floor of the jungle itself The canopy heights, where the Pact fleet is scattered across the top of the jungle
It would be a little bit clearer if they added "each" to the first sentence as it's still not clear wether each map contains 3 biomes but at least it contradicts the assumption of an earlier poster that 1 biome would count as 1 map as then there would be only 3 maps. It's at least 0.75 biome per map or 1.33 map per biome ;)
They have always said that each heart of thorns map will have the roots level, ground level and canopy level.

Now they said there will be 4 of those maps.
Wrong! No they didn't. Colin clearly stated that only the jungle part has those different levels. He made a point of not wanting to state more than it is.

Yeah, they need to find some way to reward players for working in smaller groups instead of just zerging, right now you earn more just running with everyone else and that isn't good enough.

There are of course people like my theif that sneaks up and assisinate lone or duo players but that is only rewarded with fun, I lose a lot loot and achivements for playing that way even though it is harder. So they need to rebalance the risk Vs reward calculation, that would probably make zerging less occuring.

As one of those veteran players from both GW (10 years) and GW2 from beta-testing, initially I was excited to hear we 'veterans' were being gifted a character slot --- until they announced it was only if we spent more money and PRE-purchased HoT. I guess I'm one of those weird people who just wants a game that works, that's I'm not rushed to a certain level (boosters), one I can complete quests in without bugs. I really don't care about 'finishers', and I'd much rather have an enjoyable romp at lower levels than zerg to end-game because that's where all the new/most content is.

The first MMO expansion is often mostly aimed at the endgame, and there is some logic in that.

At launch had GW2 5 large starter zones and 3 zones that could be called endgame, 2 in Orr and Frostgorge. While they have added 3 smaller and in some cases not really that complete (SC) the game still need more high level content.

For the next expansions I rather had Cantha added with zones from all the level ranges but at this time more endgame content was needed, particularly some harder stuff.

I hope they pull of challenging pve. I will wait to buy until a few months after release to see if they can do better than their dungeons, and that they don't nerf raids into the ground.

i doubt they will make raids too hard. they want the game to be accessible to as many people as possible which means trying to satisfy the lowest common denominator :/

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

So basically we can expect more of the same from Neo-Anet?

Interestingly enough HoT at release will have 4 maps, and wait for it, they are jungle maps.

"Explore new open world jungle maps".

"You'll journey through four of the largest, most diverse and replayable maps ever built in the world of Guild Wars®; maps in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns are designed as three-dimensional volumes rather than traditional flat planes. You'll have more to explore as you travel through the jungle biomes, from the canopy heights to the jungle floor and deep below into the jungle roots."

    So lets see.
The new jungle maps have 3 layers.
    HoT has 4 maps.
HoT maps (at least at release) are jungle maps.

So all HoT maps (aka each) have 3 layers.

I think you want to edit that "Wrong!" into "Right!".

DO the math,if they sell 10 million copies of this expansion that could be 50-100 million "depending the 50 or 100 purchase price"dollars to make a few instance maps.IMO they are just selling the amount of content that SHOULD have been on day 1 release ...TWICE.So in essence a 100-150 million dollar sale for a game that cost them likely 30-40 million, not a bad profit.

That is the careful way you need to look at sneaky business models,if they are releasing half a game the first time, come time for expansion you are basically buying the game twice.I personally don't like the way Arena Net operates but i can most certainly see how they profit so well.

You can bet 100% ,Arena.Net KNEW guild halls should be in game on release and was expected by players. You can also bet they were working on it but wanted to start making sales so sold the game "as is" unfinished.SO really this expansion COULD have been part of the original release and even then the game would hardly feel massive or any bigger than any other game release.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I could be quietly optimistic, but given that they did release 3 new maps through the living story (Southsun Cove, Dry Top and Silverwastes) there is a decent chance we could see new maps added later on anyway. That being said, seeing what was available in beta (and falling into areas that weren't ;) ) it certainly looks like there is a lot of depth to the 4 maps given anyway, fitting with their "3 levels" concept

Because most games have Guild Halls.
And it was expected by the players even though Anet clearly said there would be no Guild Halls in the game at release.
I guess for some people anything that expands on something means it was half of it should be in the first place...

We said the jungle is made up of those layers, not that all maps have all three :) These maps are huge, but I don't want to give the impression it's more than it is.

4 maps, not sure if all of them have levels or if all are equally big.

    At some point after release.

I got the impression that it would be a couple of months so likely just before X-mas but that is just a guess, but it would make sense to generate a bit extra hype at that time.

Yeah, PR speech is almost a scam.
