After putting all the news bits in a sock, shaking them up and pulling one out I got "newsletter" so that is what I'll focus on today. I don't think it's possible for me to cover the entire thing (it's packed) so I'll just hand pick a few of the tasty bits. Firstly is the Melee Combat Demo. That demo is exactly what I hoped it would be. Real, physical, tactically visual and VERY exciting.

I look forward to my weekly, sometimes twice a week, email backer updates from this project. All my hopes for the future of rvr mmo pvp lie within this game, as I've been burnt by every single lackluster attempt at rvr following Daoc.

Agreed. Tim continues to improve his game as we continue to improve our game. :)

Thanks for that! I hope so too. These next 8 weeks are very important for our game. For many decades I've used the term "crux point" to describe major turning points in a person, business, country, etc. life. We are definitely at a crux point for our game. It's going to be a very, very interesting few months. Can't wait! :)

@MarkJacobs Just wanted to quickly say that you sir have some of the biggest most bad ass ballz of brass in the industry (imho) and that is an AWESOME thing to behold. Much respect bloke for the way you come and interact with the community here (I'm guessing elsewhere to), let's face it while i love this site, it does have some of the harshest critics you will find in any MMO forum (imho). Some may consider the above an ass kiss and TBH i don't give a rats ass. What it is though, is a tip of the hat and a salute of respect to you and your courageous team bloke! Like so many, looking forward to the end product and thanks again for keeping the candle burning in the darkness. Peace:)

Thank you for that. As per DMK below, MMORPG can be a hostile place at times but yes, there are much worse. For me, it's always boiled down to respect. Threats and really nasty stuff are not something I have time for but I've engaged with some harsh critics on some of the sites over the years and well, it's ended up well some times. Some other times, not so much. :) I do truly thank you for the praise and support. And yes, I generally can be found here, MOP/Massively/Eurogamer and other sites when articles are posted (and occasionally other times) and man, I live on our Forums too. I do stay away from other games' articles out of respect for the other devs, as has been my policy since, well, forever. Again, thanks so much for the overly kind words.

This site has nowhere near the harshest critics, I mean not even close.

Not to derail here but MJ has always been upfront with the community - I remember him posting often on VNforums (where I had over 10k posts, ah good times).

So this is what Mark has been doing for years - been upfront with the community.
Thanks, as always DMK. It has been the way I've done business for almost 30 years dating back to my own gaming system (Gamer's World), through GEnie to Mythic and now, CSE. I really do enjoy this, I really do. Maybe that's why I'm up at 12:30 EDT posting on MMORPG, instead of being in a nice warm bed which would feel great after tonight's workout at the gym. Be well all, I'm now heading to bed. :)

If you think that's a proper forest, I have to wonder if you've ever been in one. The problem with computer game forests is that the underbrush is usually underwhelming, the forest floor is way too flat and the trees are all fully grown with very little or no saplings.

Update was tasty, even with couple fascinating elements. I just hope that we will have the choice to play on both Milano's/Michelle's/Sandra's (I certainly forgot someone) old giant (and not just giant) models same as the new ones.

Sorry for being honest, but I prefer the old work (and not by little, unfortunately). This new guy seems to be quick and kinda decent, but in his interpretation - I don't feel the difference between the three giants anymore, they gravitate towards each other, being more generic and much closer to mutual reskins than the old ones.

I can imagine the "we want more humans!" crowd backers preferred or at least supported (and BTW as you know very well, people tend to autoPilotSupport - too often I'm afraid - anything CSE says/does) the standard "Marvel Heroes" approach. "If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." =)

Again, I hope we will have the choice in this case. Because choices, kinda, matter.

RNGesus saves .. games. Examine any mmorpg you played for RNG and it should be clear how powerful RNG is. Either you get it or you don't. Moar RNG in all games please.

Well, all the indie pvp games need to look at how this game does pvp because all the others, including Crowfall just don't get it.

Been a long wait for a pvp game that is fun.

I wonder how upfront he will be when he sells off his company to another publisher like EA again. *shrugs*.
It's easy to answer easy questions but that's not the test of whether somebody is upfront. In this case, you asked a very pertinent question that might be perceived by some as trolling. Now, I don't think it is so I'm happy to address it. First, as my history at Mythic showed, I was not quick to sell the studio. We turned down offers for many years. Secondly, the key thing to keep in mind is that we are not looking for a buyer now. We've turned down investment opportunities because I am unwilling to yield control to another studio/entity even if I would benefit financially (since I'm the majority shareholder). We have a game to make for our Backers and that is my #1 focus. Third, CSE, like Mythic originally, is owned in the majority by everyone here. If we do sell the company some day, every member of our studio will benefit by the sale, just like the folks at Mythic who had stock. So, in our case, it isn't about the studio head(s) making money and nobody else, it is about the entire team making money. Now, one can argue whether that is a good and noble cause but it's important to note that it is not just one or two folks who would benefit if we one day sold the game but everybody is here now and, most likely, at least a few more people. As far as selling to EA or similar, well, I fought against the EA deal but that's what happens when you lose control of the company. Eventually the terms were such that I couldn't oppose them any longer. With this studio, I doubt if EA would want a Round 2 with me and I have little interest in selling the studio for a quick buck. Had that opportunity, turned it down. As far as a post-acquisition MJ goes, well, I believe that if I/others are willing to take somebody else's money, we have an obligation to follow their dictates as long as they are legal, moral, etc. At EA, I was subject to EA's Investor Relations folks/policies since I was a corporate officer and yes, I had to be less open than I was in the past. I didn't have to lie and nor did they ask me to but I couldn't speak as openly as I would have liked due to the whole publicly traded company thing. Not an excuse, just a reason. Anyway, thanks for the question. The TL;DR version is: I hope so. :)

It's a start. :) Once we get better occlusion culling code, we can up the underbrush. In terms of the forest floor, we did that for now because well, it's easier for the trees to attach themselves to the ground that way (this will get better). In terms of more of a mixed age of trees, yep, on the list.

I'd love to be able to say that we can do that but I doubt we would offer more than the usual customizations of a model. The more unique models that we support, the more work for the team so we have to be quite careful. Plus, if we did it for the Golems, we would have to do the same thing for other races and when you have as many races as we will have, the number could get quite large and a PITA to manage.

Thanks! We need to be sure than RNG doesn't dominate gameplay but a little RNG can go a long way if used properly.

kk :( I hope that we, at least, won't have all the models re-designed by only one man!? Let him play with Tuatha a bit, they are the ones I like the least, some plastic surgery would do them good :)

Anyway, it's possible that I will like some of his future works better. And again, sorry for talking only about that, the whole update was full of nice stuff. But I guess you got the daily dose of "Mark you are awesome and the whole team is awesome!" from other folks, as usual. Not that I disagree, just not my style =)

LOL, feel free to talk about anything you want, even multiple times. :) As far as the "Mark you are awesome..." that's also a LOL. Inside the studio, I prefer to give out praise than have lots of praise (I'm human though, so...) and on the Forums, well, it isn't always rainbows, unicorns and Luchorpans! Do I like seeing people happy with what we do? Of course but I'm also happy to see people point out, logically and respectfully (I do insist on that from both Devs and Backers), if we have our heads inserted in the wrong place on our bodies. :) All of the models will be getting a makeover from Jon and given his youth and current skill set, I expect great things from him over the course of the project. I'm excited to see where he'll be talent-wise in a couple of years.
