From the makers of Shadowrun Returns comes another RPG that was originally created in the 80s but will get a new cRPG treatment. Harebrained Schemes plans on launching a Kickstarter for Battletech soon. Read on to find out what they had to say about this RPG about big robots and their human pilots.

I'm enjoying the Shadowrun Returns games and if they can make Battletech just as good, they'll have another customer.

Sounds like an isometric tactical game and not a first person cockpit perspective game ... and i prefer this bigger picture from above when i have to command a lance. Sticking to the 3025 time period is also a good idea ... plenty of gaming potential as the 4th Succession War erupts across the Inner Sphere. No gaming company ever had an idea on how to successfully implement 3050 period Clan fighting rules ... so the Clan warriors and mechs in games were simply UBER compared to the IS counterparts, without the roleplaying drawbacks of fighting short-handed by choice.

I would not agree to the idea that cover is of minor importance. Cover, speed and positioning is EVERYTHING in Classic Battletech.

Looking forward to be able to again play the merc outfit Team Banzai and lop some heads off with the Hatchetman HCT-3F.

    Have fun

Well to be fair I think it was more in the line of "classic" cover such as walls, shurbs and things.. After all when you need a average office block for cover and have enough weapons to reduce said block to dust... It becomes less of a importance. It becomes more about the movement at large. =)

But i get what you are going for.

Now i will most likely kickstart the living heck out of this one. It is a solid team that have proven they can deliver and a franchise i really like

I will have my MW:O for the in your face action and this for my more tactical likes... in short... Life will be grand.

This have been a good conversation

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

We are born of the blood. Made men by the blood. Undone by the blood. Our eyes are yet to open. FEAR THE OLD BLOOD.

While I won't Kickstart this, just because I don't have money for Kickstarters. I will purchase this game day ONE on release just on the nostalgia factor alone.

( Note to self-Don't say anything bad about Drizzt.)

An acerbic sense of humor is NOT allowed here.

Now just add an MMO component such as a persistent map with territories that can be fought over and controlled for rewards and resource production and you will have the perfect game.

I am very much looking forward to this. They did so well with Shadowrun. I think they will do this well also.

Probably my favorite current dev team. They've steadily gotten better at what they do.

    I'm a MUDder. I play MUDs.

I agree. I enjoyed all of the Shadowrun games they have done. Interested to see what they'll do with Battletech.

My money, take it, NOW. Seriously, Merc Campaign, Xcom party mechanics, turn based Mech Combat AND set in 3025? Have it deliver me pizza and all my prayers are pretty much answered :).

Already did, and it was AWESOME!!! It was called Multiplayer Battletech 3025. .... It only ever reached a very exclusive ALPHA phase, and myself and a friend were lucky enough to be a part of it. - It was, to this day, the best Battletech/Mechwarrior experience I've ever had. FASA sold off to Microsoft (i think?) and MS scrapped it immediately so they could instead fund Xbox and the development of Mech Assault (crap excuse for a mechwarrior game) Here's a link to the google results so you can get a taste. Screenshots, videos, etc. https://www.google.com/search?q=mpbt3025&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 That game is why this new tactics style approach excites me. That 3025 era was my fav. and so I will support this for sure.

I'm not going to hold my breath. I've played since the tactical game in '84, and with the computer games from '97. Everything that's been worked on since that I've supported has fallen through, except MWO. Despite PGIs turn around in work on that game, and some real possibilities finally beginning to come forward, it's still not lived up to what they said it was going to be, and that was already expectation management to the hilt, right there. I did not expect them to do more than what they laid out, but they've not even touched the better portion of that, yet. Even if Mr. Weisman is working on this with Hare-brained, I'm VERY VERY skeptical.

As someone who played and enjoyed the Battletech games on the Apple IIc, I will fully support this project!

The second that kickstarter opens so does my wallet.

Let's hope it doesn't end like that crap from Piranha games, they too promised a campaign game, even have a trailer released about it, and in the end, it became Call of Duty with Mechs...

Do I throw BOTH fistfuls of cash at the same time @ their Kickstarter campaign, or just one cash-laden hand at a time?

Wish them better luck than MechWarrior: Tactics
  • TithenonTithenon Member UncommonPosts: 113
Yeah, I was involved in Tactics, and I definitely wish them better luck than that; I just want to see MORE than we've ever seen, before, in this game.

I was more into Robotech. Minmay is a slut.

Boy: Why can't I talk to Him?
Mom: We don't talk to Priests.
As if it could exist, without being payed for.
F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing.
    Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play.  Therefore P2W.
