Like Eve?
Or like WWII Online (Battleground Europe) that's been going strong for 5+ years with the same "limited" Dev Staff as RV? That game keeps getting better while subscriptions are 'rising' again as well.
Will either of these games become "mainstream"? Most likely not due to limited advertising funds. The MMORPG market kinda starts leaning towards the "niche" games though. Content and Community (Management) are becoming more important than ever before. A game like RV will benefit from that in the long run.
I don't understand what the big deal is it's only 25$ US, I'm going to pre-order when a set date of launch is given.
I have complete confidence that this dev team can bring home all they are boasting about. I have been watching this game for a while, and just recently signed up for their new fansite RV-Camp put together by a fan.
Seeing as this is the first not so greedy company to allow a "donation" setup, while I play this game I'll probally more than likely if I enjoy this game, and they deliver with constant updates and patches, pay them a regualr monthly "donation" for their efforts. Only payoff to this is, I'll be getting in-game currency to boot, I wish all other MMOS where like this, if anything at all, at least your 15 a month would benefiet you more than a regualr nerf of the month.
I like what they have, it's a great setting in the world, and easily roleplayed. I feel the community for this game will grow stronger over the coming months as it reaches release. If anything at all, it will just succeed like Eve-Online and creep its way into the MMO spotlight =p
Goodluck RB, Here Here for making such an inspiring and innovative game!
P.S. is their a discount for multiple preorders? hehe just thought i would ask.
We limit it by....having a limit? There are only 1500 pre-orders available. Therefore, we know we will have 1500 + the current amount of testers. That way we know our servers wont be hit with 50billion people at launch, melt to the floor, and cause a general headache for the janitor. How many MMOGs have, on their first day, been hit with the amount of people they werent expecting and have server problems because of it? It's better to say, "We'll have x amount of people" instead of, "Well, we'll probably have a bunch of people...but Im not sure what the ballpark figure would be." <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I will buy this game. It looks like a change of pace from WOW and it will keep me busy until Vanguard comes out. Will I switch to Vanguard when it comes out? I know I will take a look at it but if RV is good I'll keep playing.
I agree, as long as the developers stick to the vision of creating a realistic virtual community rather than selling out to attract the lowest common denominator, the word of mouth will be powerful.
If the virtual world is reasonably believable and the gameplay is very challenging and thus rewarding, then word of mouth will spread quickly throughout the MMOG industry that it's a worthwhile game.
From what I have read, the developers seem to have a clear vision and goals for the game and a determination to meet them. That alone was enough to get me signed up and spreading the word and I have not been very interested in any MMOGs since the original Ultima Online.
I couldn't care less about the graphics or the advertising.
I will probably pre-order RV in mid-April (maybe) if the pre-order still on RV website. I can also wait till July 1st of 2006 when the official release hit worldwide.
I will definately NOT be buying this game. Its looks great, might be a game I could really enjoy, However I will not play a game that lets you buy in game money.
If they would charge a subscription fee I would play it.
Support Bacteria, its the only culture some people have.

LOL That deserves a good chuckles glad to see someone thinking of the poor janitor for once!
I will defintly buy this game not only do I love the era I am intrigued by the business model they are using. If you can pay your virtual bills so to speak without having to raid your real-life cookie jar when most of the other players must do so then now you have an oppurtunity to shine. If this game is balanced right then those that enjoy the economics aspect (crafting) will have to buy reduced or no currency vs those that focus on the combat aspect of things. I guess we will see how the economy functions. As previously mentioned there will be oppurtunities to make money over and above purchasing the currency. Guess we will have to wait and see how all that works out.
Just like in swg galaxies though I may end up buying two copies to explore fully the economic aspect as well as the "combat" aspect of the game.

and what i heard the ui seems to be ridiculous .....argh
We had to make our own engine because nothing else out there was flexable enough to do what we needed them to.
Graphics are easy to improve, an in depth economic allowing realistic supply and demand is not. They will improve up to release, but most likely they'll mostly improve after.

If it can deliver the sandbox experience of pre-CU SWG, I am all over this game.
Plus I love the Dev communication.

Definitely won't pre-order...depending how it goes...I might check it out...
a free download would be phenomenol....I think they should do that! (I also think they should give me free fish and chips too)
