in City of Heroes
Is anyone else about to explode waiting for this game to come out?  I don't think I can wait another half a year or however long it will take for CoH to be released.  This game WILL be simply amazing.

    I am right with you man. I think that I will probably drop everything to hook up on this one. I really think that they got something unique here, and it really looks like it will work well. The screens are simply awesome! We just need more news!!!!!!! Arrrrrrgh, I cant take it too much longer!!!!!!

    I once got all hyped about this game, so I read and tread and learned everything there was to know, and then, nothing else.  I kept checking the site trying to get more news, but none ever came, so my desire to play this game faded and faded fast.

    From what I have read they have run into some serious fundamental issues in their overall plan for the game. 

    At first they wanted to allow people to make a character to be anything they wanted then planned and designed with that in mind.  After a while they discovered this was going to lead to some people  making weak or "gimp" characters on accident as well as not supporting much of a reason to group.

    They decided to change the game to encourage grouping and help to avoid weak characters by creating almost a class system and roles similar to games like EQ with tanks, healers, support, and such.  I guess that met with some unhappy followers of the game and they are working on a third middle of the road type design.

    Anyway, thats just what I have read.

    Yeah, the Official City of Heroes website released yesterday a rundown of one of the "archetypes" known as a Blaster.  Basically character creation does fit a type of class system, but the options for powers makes it truly unique.  They also released some screenshots of costume creation and holy crap there are a TON of options.  You may have to fit into a certain type of hero, but I still think this game will make most other MMORPGs bow down.

    As far as the class like hero types, it is akin to EQ or other MMORPGS. However, there are so many combinations of different types of powers that it will still yield tons of diversity. Im not at all worried about the changes. I was at first but once I looked into it and saw that the powers still have differnent types and could be combined in so many ways my worries were put to rest.

    I am not too worried about the class thing either, I was mostly posting this because I think its part of what has delayed the game so much and why there hasnt been very much in the way of new information released.

    If you think about it, its a pretty major change to the core of how the game works and a big change.

    I really like the direction this game is going. I really really HOPE that this game will be the "breath of fresh air" the industry needs. Let's face it, collecting sets of armor and weapons can get boring after a while. I love fantasy, don't get me wrong... but like with playing AD&D, sometimes I liked taking a break to play Marvel Superheroes *GOD I MISS THAT GAME!* One of our fav. things to do was make up a "Villan" group, to go rampaging on INSERT CITY here, and then to have various super heroes appear to try and stop us. *blinks* Now THERE'S an idea for a video game... you hardly get to be a villan in the "comic book sense" Hrrrm... another game that the genre needs...

    Couldnt have said it better myself Lansid! Been playin Marvel Superheroes for going on 17 years now, and still going strong!!! Lookin to adapt a few of the characters I have to CoH. Think this ones gonna break the mold. I have also heard rumblings that Marvel themselves are going to delve into the SuperHero genre MMORPG with one of their own, based on the Marvel universe. That would be tight as well.

    I don't think I've ever been this ready for an MMORPG to come out.  Just the idea is groundbreaking.  I hope they don't get rid of all of the cool things in the game like they did with Horizons.

    This and WoW are the two games that will probably be the only games I play on the computer when they come out. Other games are interesting but this is involving what got me started in reading as a little kid. I have loved comics and read them for 25+ years now. WoW has my attention because of my trust in Blizzard on making an excellent game. I am going to love getting to play this game.
