Odd, Mr. Hartsman never mentioned any issue with third party software as you lead us to believe from your source. He seemed to blame it on an unexpected load. Not one mention of this mysterious Glyph issue you indicated as the cause. Odd that you blamed Glyph when the rest of Trions games use it and were unaffected by any log in issues during that same time. Very odd indeed...
He did not, read their previous statement from 12th september, It was an authentication issue with Glyph.
Then why is Hartsman using words like "attack" and "heavy load from unknown sources". That is not an authentication issue. And why did Glyph function perfectly fine in all their other games?

Does anyone actually believe this PR Spin? Everyday I load this site. I see yet another trion related article showing us what a clown car they have become. Do you think DMkano gets an SMS or email alert every time trion is posted about?
I read this article again - what PR spin?
I see Hartsman frankly talking about the details of an internal Glyph issue that they could have easily covered up as something else entirely.
Everything said lines up with what players experienced during this outage.
SMS is so last decade - I have a forum feed going directly into my cerebral cortex via cybernetic implants.
Technology.
Maybe how Trion first reported a Glyph issue and now Hartsman is changing the story. Never once in his interview does he even mention Glyph. He changes the story to insinuate some outside evil by saying "attack" and "the extra non-game load came from isn’t as important to us as knowing that it’s possible and that we need to be able to handle load of that pattern far better in the future". That sure sounds like a PR spin to me. If it was Glyph, why was no other Glyph game affected?

Really, 24 hour delay is enough to make you people quit/hate a game and publisher who actually still cares about MMOs? A game that REQUIRES thousands of people able to login at the same time in the interest of fairness, which no other game has systems that require this. The AA/Trion hate is baseless at this point. Go play the game you enjoy and take a couple of chill pills.

The problem players really have is the loss of land in the game, Trion needs to actually refund any money actually spent on the purchase of land from other players, and allow players to keep a (DEED) in their inventory showing its actual purchase value in gold giving the gold back or something.........
Also World OF Warcraft doesnt go down for over 24 hours why did Arche Age?

The problem doesn't involve loss of land. That is BOUND to happen eventually in a virtual world. I mean, if you expected to pass this land down to your children, I just feel bad for you.
There is no land shortage, there is an "Ideal" land shortage on purpose. You still have your kits, your compensation, just go plant it someplace else, there are spots everywhere they might just not be ideal. This is the only finished, polished, AAA MMO to include land in a persistent world. If you can't handle the possibility of losing it/relocating than don't play this game.

Although I don't play the game, I've been following the progression of it. I was initially interested in it when I saw some of the concept art. Hell, I downloaded it and use it for desktop wallpaper. It looks like a gorgeous game. If I wasn't so busy with well LIFE, I'd probably download and play.
That being said, Trion in the past has had some missteps, like any major AAA company. After reading the article and the pre-mortem on the recent server issues, I applaud Scott Hartsman for stepping up and getting interviewed about this. It's rare in today's gaming environment that there is someone willing to step up and admit "We screwed up, we're still finding out why, but yeah we screwed up." Good on you Scott, and I hope you guys find out what went wrong and are able to fix it before the next major patch.
Trion should have learned their lesson when Auroria Patch landed, and the patch after that, or the patch after that patch, perhaps the patch after the patch of the patch ?
What i am trying to say is, Trion / XLGames should test patches.
To bad all my friends already left the game as i had a realy good time up till Auroria patch landed and the game took a nose dive in a mountain of exploits that it never recovered from.
"Six months of prep" he says?
As Callicat points out on the main forums, this means they knew mergers were coming even while players were being told there were no plans to merge servers. I wonder how much money they made off that deception?
I need to make this my last AA related post. I don't play it and never spent money on it. I think I'm just fascinated with it because it could have been an amazing game, one I would have paid $15 bucks a month for and happily played for years. If only these whale hunters wanted that. No, they want the cash shop dual card wielders.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
What Hartsman isn't saying is that over 50% of players got screwed out of their land and that hundreds have quit in outrage. I got into the game in less than 5 seconds of the server going online and never found one spot bigger than 8 x 8 of land. What I did see was fewer players building bigger and claiming more land than ever. So there are now far fewer land owners and many, many unhappy players who feel they've been robbed. Perhaps the biggest issue was they sent out no notifications by either email or in game about how to prepare for the merger.
" externally driven account service usage " - What does this means exactly?
High load on Glyph account services not caused by any of the Glyph games.
Glyph handing authentication is open to the world - so just like every Internet facing system it probably looks like this:
Edge load balancers, with server farm behind them
Players logging into any of the Glyph games go through the authentication process where once logged in - Glyph validates what status and access they have to each game.
Externally driven usage would be sending a bunch of Auth traffic to Glyph that is not actual users trying to log in.
Only in the scenario you mention above, wouldn't all Glyph games be subject to the outage? You keep saying it was Glyph when Mr. Hartsman never mentioned the word. He clearly pointed to some outside source and a heavy load. I know it seems hard to keep up with Trions stories, first they say they have lots of control over the game/cash shop and then they say they have little control. First they say it is an authentication issue and now it is a load issue caused by some unknown outside source. I too have a hard time keeping up with the changing stories coming out of this game so I understand what you are going through.

This game could of been a real game changer for the MMO industry; however, Trion and their partner Botched the Class skills, botched every LAUNCH of the game, and this is no different. What a real shame.
....Being Banned from MMORPG's forums since 2010, for Trolling the Trolls!!!
What lessons learned? I was there at launch for the 1st land rush, same issue. I was there at launch of Auroria same issue, now here same issue.....great lessons learned.

The REAL problem with this game is OWPVP....WILL NOT WORK HERE!
That's what killed the game for me. All the emphasis on carebear features like farming plots and trade runs just made the game boring as hell for anyone looking for open world PVP.
They never learned any lessons from the last lessons learned. It's like groundhog day!

I think it was made for Korean and Asian market, it would have been a failure no matter what Trion did. I just hope, in the next MMO that Trion make - we would see main features that the Archeage had: Open housing, Awesome Crafting system, Open World.
If Archeage was developed by Trion and not XLgames, it would have been a major success, because Trion knows what our market needs.

24 hour delay didn't make me quit. The rampant hacking and botting and what I feel is pay 2 win elements made me leave long ago. In my opinion Trion dropped the ball with this game and Scott so far has been trying to subtly shrug off the blame while throwing trinkets at the community to shut them up.
I agree XLgames seems to think this side of the world are a bunch of morons so I am not sure publishing is a wise move for Trion I hope they do better with Bluehole Ginno and Devilian but on the surface many players are still sore from AA. I returned a month ago to AA after leaving because I got tired of the scamming & bots BUT I am enjoying the game again more than I was tbh. Rift launch was great and Defiance but not Trove so anyone who says other wise is just soft - in context I am not sure how Trion will rise above all of this or even if they can and thats a dam shame cause they are good people with the best intentions. Please don't let Bluehole Ginno pull an XL on us and all the best with Atlas Reactor. Cheers also for all the compensation packs and paying our taxes while the servers were down.

No I think a continuous trend for fucking up is what is making people hate this game. I say the hate is spot on and well deserved at this point. And if anyone needs to take a couple of chill pills as you put it, its those of you who can't stand the thought that people exist that don't love your cherished game as much as you do so you have to tell them they're full of shit every time they so much as fart in your favorite game's general direction.
I'm not here talking about this game because I hate it and wish it to die. I'm doing so because I feel the game has potential that has sadly been squandered by XL Games poor handling of said game. At its heart Archeage seems to be a decent game, true its a game that is made for a niche market, but it still seems to be profitable. However as I stated before it seems XL has a penchant for screwing things up. Which I feel has sadly made this game far more niche than it would have otherwise have been.
People keep saying Trion taking up Archeage was a mistake but various people who claim to have insider (like DMKano) say this was one of Trion's most profitable years ever.
Honestly, considering that a ton of angry players who end up quitting the game is what's SUPPOSED to happen with this type of business model (as I've keep pointing out, R2's business presentation on the matter explicitly points this out), I'm inclined to believe those who say Trion made a ton of profit from Archeage. I'm quite confident the only "lesson" Trion learned here is that you can be completely incompetent with handling hackers and server issues and everything else yet still rake in tons of cash hand and fist thanks to tried and true F2P whaling business strategies and the general easily-addicted-and-manipulated nature of humanity.
Heck, Trion was probably already showing huge profits off of (insert-derogatory-term-of-your-choice people who paid $150 for) Founders' Packs alone. At that point, the game servers probably could have literally exploded in a mushroom cloud of fire and brimstone and Trion still would have made a hefty profit.

You really think scott gives a flying feck about the people in this thread lol.

His believability quotient is at zero. About the only reason his interviews are worth the time to read them is a good laugh.
Trion needs to kick this guy to the curb to preserve what is left of their reputation.
