Good mobile games actually exist

I often see someone state that there are no good mobile games.
I don't how hard they have been looking or what they expect from a smartphone device.
The standard for Android smartphones seems to be like:
5" screen
2 GB RAM
8 GB storage
1.2 GHz CPU

If we ignore the screen size and storage space then that is close to standard PC about year 2005.
So what I am saying is that you should not expect more from mobiles games than what you could expect from a PC game in 2005.
Take into account that a smartphone is portable and must save power. Therefore the mobile games are designed for short sessions.
Clearly you get the best gaming experience on a PC but in many situations gaming on smartphone is more convenient. Like waiting for bus or sitting in a train.

Here are some examples of good mobile action RPGs

1. Iron Knights.

Nice graphics with lots of units to collect.

2. Marvel Future Fights.

"Marvel Heroes for mobile"

3. Dungeon Hunter 5.

Lots of gamemodes and events

4. Burning Blade

includes real pvp and co op.

really liking marvel future fight.  Fun game so far.. kinda slow at the leveling, but I anticipate being able to play to max level if I keep with it long enough. No money required.

Not much a smartphone fan myself. Now, if you could hook in some VR glasses so you would get an actual large screen it would be fine for train rides and such but whenever I have time enough to actually play a MMO I have access to my desktop or laptop.

It would make sense if I enjoyed games you jump in for 10 minutes several times a day but when I play I prefer longer sessions even if I can't play as often then.

The positive effect is that more and more of the super casual crowd are moving to mobile games so maybe they could increase the dungeon size again in PC MMOs, they made them really quick for that specific crowd.

In my case I play a mobile MMO when pigs can fly, but for you that like that tyoe of games: please enjoy yourself. :)

I'd add to that list StarWars Rebellion. Released las week, I'm having fun with it, at least for now.
Gotta say I play it only on weekends when I can't use my computer.

As I see it, not only the super casuals will do that, but the majority of the industry... PC will stay for the high-end gamers (maybe, if the damned consoles won't crawl over onto that segment with modularity)

Just look at Intel, they're chasing lower and lower consumption instead of speed increase for a reason...
Nasa in the OP focused on phones and droid, but check Win and tablets instead: W10 phones with Continuum will easily replace thin-clients so low-end desktop PCs will be obsolete, and you can buy right now W8 tablets at around 100-150 bucks with quad-core Atom... It's far better than my PC was a decade ago, and you don't need porting and stuff like with droid or iOs, it can run any PC program or game (with some "help" of course, after you remove the shackles of MS).
True, its video segment is still weak, but graphic chipset developers are heading into the same direction as well. But even in its current state it can run San Andreas for example (on low res), which is pretty good from a cheapo tablet

I usually have a lot of fun with games on mobile for like a week and a half, then I get to the point in them where it requires payments or waiting for weeks to accrue them giving you cash shop money. Looking forward to trying these out while waiting for Puzzle And Dragons stamina. Bleh stamina and energy are by far the worst part of mobile games.

There is a huge variety of quality mobile games. Graphics are nothing like 2005 graphics. The games all use very high quality textures. Not as complex as PC games but who cares. You can play tons of games which are what you would call proper PC games on mobile.

Also there is a difference between playing on a phone and a tablet as tablets are way more powerful. Also usually games are purely optimised to run on your device especially if your phone/tablet are not older than 2-3 years.

I can easily list over 50-100 games which are worth playing but it would take a long time. Some games like hearthstone are more fun on a tablet. There are actually many games which are more intuitive on a tablet.

Finally iOS is way better than android for games. For some reasons a lot of the quality games never make it to android or are very late, and a lot of them under perform significantly on top android devices when 2-3 years old iPhones run the games faster lol.

There are tons of games which charge you an upfront fee and have no in app purchases beyond extra content. I played radiation island which was super fun and it took me 20 hours to finish the game.

I think you mean "Star War Uprising", SW Rebelion was an older 90's game. More to the point, yeah, it's fun and getting more interesting as I progress.

Another good one (for the MOBA crowd) is 'Vain Glory', simplified, but having a blast!

I've been hearing good things about 'Call of Champions' too. It's a tug-of-war take on MOBA's.

Admittedly, I play most my mobile game on a tablet, smart phones don't seem to have the screen real estate for me.

you know what game i have on my galaxy s5? Persona 2: Innocent Sin on a PSP emulator. Ill take an emu over the whole mobile market combined.

With that said, I bought Shadowrun:Return, and Shadowrun Dragonfall mobile because i would not play those games with a mouse.

Thats about it. Mobile? sure, with emulators. No microscamsactions, no milking, pure enjoyment.

I have high hopes for games like Albion since the graphics are timeless and it is apparently cross platform,

but I am a fan of mobile MMO games really similar to Zenonia. While waiting day and night for the release of the Zenonia MMORPG (Should be any time now...) I have searched day and night for games like this and only found a few single game that is close:

Brave Trials - Even though Brave Trials has good dungeon/raids with great controls, everything ranging from UI to story else is terrible. There is no progression to the story, and EVERYTHING is automated. You have the option of even automating the dungeon/raids. You also have "pets" called Faen following you and helping you kill stuff. You actually get 2, so when you have 4 people in a party in a dungeon, there's 12 things floating around obstructing your view.

Legend series (Arcane Legends, Pocket Legends, etc) - These are great games with great game play that has what Brave trials lack. You actually have to do things yourself. The story is decent and the controls are great too. My gripe about this game is that it does NOT allow customizable characters. If you want to be a mage, you have to be this ugly blue looking thing. You can't even choose sex.

There are others that come close to this dungeon/raid style MMO, but they're not quite there yet:

Spirit Lords: Great dungeon/raids focused mobile MMO, but it lacks controls! Instead of having a joystick on the left and attacks on the right like the above 2 games, in Spirit lords, you have to click to go places. It gets very hard to move around and attack. However, you could customize your characters to your liking and the story is decent too. If Spirit Lords had controls like Legends series or Brave Trials, then I think this game would be the best.

All that is left to do now is to wait for Zenonia Online to be released... Unless someone can recommend me a game that is very similar!

I can't really vouch for any of these games, but I was doing some research related to mobile MMO's and came across a few games that might possibly interest you.  They all have some PVP if that interests you.

    IMO World of Magic
    Warspear
    TibiaMe

I am also holding out for Zenonia S (online) to come out for IOS.  One thing that concerns me is that I read a review of someone complaining that due to the stamina feature you can't play that long each day without needing to pay money.  However, I only saw that complaint once, so maybe this person was trying to play it 10 hours a day.

Thanks for this list, I will have to check some of these out.
  • HighestHandHighestHand Member UncommonPosts: 108
Thanks dhynds, I was checking out Warspear and it looked good, I will give it a try and maybe post a description about it. The others I haven't checked out yet, but I will.

well thats why opinions vary , as all those games are shallow crap cash grabs , There no  mobile games even worth the time download , maybe you could find some entertainment if  you are over 65 under 10 or just very dim witted .. IMO of course..

Mobile gaming at the moment isn't impressive but it's still growing. The fact that games like Infinity Blade, Zenonia 1-5 prove that there is improvement. With improvement, there will sure to be good and better games coming out.

Also, considering that I have a 4 hour commute everyday, I am sure as hell hoping that the mobile gaming industry grows faster.

    Give us Zenonia Online!!

My biggest problem is onscreen analog sticks, they'll just never work for me, i did get a controller i could use with my phone, but barely any games seem to support that.
  • WizardryWizardry Member LegendaryPosts: 19,332
Except the screen size DOES matter, why do you think you can bu ya 32" TV for mere pennies now?
Also GPU matters and the overall bandwidth capability of the system matters.

There is a reason i can't stand Moba's or ARPG's,those locked in camera views are horrible to my gaming experience.I don't want to look at cheap assets or linear lane ways or puny small characters where i can't see any detail at all because they are so small.

gaming...convenient?Gaming alone says you have tons of time to WASTE,since when does wasted time now need to also be convenient? It sounds like we are trying to put gaming on some pedestal of importance. We do NOT need any more gaming peripherals, they just keep coming out because human nature shows we are terrible when comes to common sense spending.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Ahhh Arcane Legends, I used to play that one a ton. It was a great game until they implemented a new energy system and all the events became huge p2w. I'm giving the new Order and Chaos 2 a try now, seems great so far but drains battery ridiculously fast.

I only played one good mobile game, and its baluders gate. The rest I found are pay towin, cash shop, garbage, try to get you to waste money, kid steals your cc to play bull crap. So yep the majority of mobile games are ad infested, wasteful garbage. Want a mobile gaming machine, buy a ds, laptop, or if ur rich buy a surface pro 3, that can play bf4 on medium settings.

Gravity released a good mobile mmo game a few years ago, but I think they closed it already. I think for a mobile game, you can't make them too complex. Pretty much you have to limit the controls to doing 2~3 things at once compared to the 4~5 we typically do in a more complex game. There is also a need to better use the screen real estate.

I think something like Final Fantasy Tactics would translate well to a mobile platform.

This will change when Microsoft releases Windows Phone 10.
  • JabmaticJabmatic Member, AMA Guest UncommonPosts: 4
OP I appreciate the post I will 100% be trying some of these games. I agree with @Cleffy though controls need to be kept simple on a mobile.

Maybe I have weird fingers but the on-screen joysticks never work for me as someone else mentioned :expressionless:  haha

Only sticking to sub based non p2win games for the pc personally. Which limits me to literally 3 mmorpgs. There'd be nothing wrong with an actual good game for a mobile but there will just be time wasters for when you are waiting for a bus but that's what cross words are for.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.
