I spend many hours downloading, made a dark elf shadow knight, spent hours turning him into a Paladin. Some one quit gave me their guild hall and like 1kpp, and a bunch of crafting stuff. Then I start getting items from quests and stuff, and even at the low levels they are better than crafted stuff, so I asked in chat, is any of this crafted stuff I am making any good. They all said no, and at later levels totally useless. The people who made this game gotta be some of the dumbest people on the planet. If you go through the list of stuff in crafting, just lvl 15 I made it to in outfitting, and did not have all the books, and i had over 1000 different things to craft. The sheer time it would of took some one to type all this garbage into a game is mind boggling, and its all useless......... The person who typed in all those 100k plus crafted items, and then the game dev made them all useless, must of been like what the hell guys. Talk about wasted time and money. It would of been better to just go to China and throw all the money on the ground than to have paid some one countless thousands to make a crafting system, that is utterly useless. Alright my rants over, and I am done with eq now lol.

eq2 has changed over the years , and now 1-60 is fastr travel , and thanks good gear from quest isnt useless anymore! , back then crafted was the best gear , and i remember farming hours to craft all the sets at 22, 32, 42, ect and all that u get from quests was crappy gear

all that said crafted gear is far from useless , and for tanks the crafted sets are amazing , the 22 sets is cool and at 42 u get the dark plate set , that once u outlevel u can wear as appareance gear :)

crafted weapons are awesome , crafted food is way better , and u can craft spells , and jewelry (that is scarce leveling), potions are "meh" , but alchemist crafts Warrior skills, far from useles , just crafting adept III is enough reason to being a crafter in eq2

I think you got that backwards.

The devs are the smart ones, giving people what they want.  No one wants to quest or grind or raid without some big chunk of phat loot at the end.  Sorry, rare mats or money just won't cut it for most combat gamers. Its the players that cause this conundrum not the people making the game.

So its like Skuall said.  Crafters are left with crafting the best side items to give them some relevance.  Thats just the way it is in the majority of MMO's.

If you want something different I suggest try Fallen Earth or The Repop.

FFA Nonconsentual Full Loot PvP ...You know you want it!!

I use crafted gear and I slave to get the rares and then I try to make what I want either with alts or ask people in the guild. One of the people in my guild has every crafter and uses all top level mastercrafted gear he makes himself.

Crafting is far from useless don't listen to the server weary players from older servers who try to ruin the experience in this game. If you do the quests yourself sometimes by the time you can manage to get into the dungeon to do the quest the quest item has already become lower than what you can make. Tanks have to gear themselves properly and a tank who uses fully mastercrafted gear is way better than one who just uses drops.

Why don't you play the game instead of listening to rubbish ?

They really did a disservice to the game when they simplified it.  A lot of the old players have been telling them that, but nobody listened until the company got sold and the people responsible for dumbing it down got fired.  The crafting system had a good start, and it should have become more complex with more variations, not less.  With power creep over time and lack of crafting development to match it, the whole thing is a waste.

One of the worst things they did was to get rid of random loot drops. They standardized drops and anything not in a carefully scripted repeatable dungeon is pretty useless.  That's when we started talking about "trash mobs", and the game became a chore.

Play on the TLE server and all of those problems are solved. The crafted gear is the best. There are so many players it can be hard to farm the mats required though.

Ahh you're not playing on TLE ? Then what I said is not relevant. TLE crafting rocks. Should have gotten a clue at the 1k plat guild part but anyway if you want to experience crafting and enjoying playing the game come to TLE.

TLE is where anybody that plays EQ2 should be playing and crafting does rock. I could not see my self playing on the old servers again.

Well i have many things to say "surprise" lol.

First of all i would never be the one to say that Smedley nor Brad back in the day were the smartest pumpkins.I have also mentioned a few times in the past how bad and lazy the crafting system was put together.

Now just recently on this very sight, they were talking and praising the female that came aboard.Well i happen to remember when SOE hired a female to take over the crafting, not sure if the same female but she did a horrible job IF she actually had any say in the design changes.

Now having said that ,vaguely is not a good way to describe things because crafting has it's positives as well.Example crafting furniture for your house or crafting food or drink. Then we have the spells, prices only go up over time,so MUCH cheaper to craft your own Expert spells.

Whomever said quest items were better is retarded, crafted "mastercrafted" gear is still at the very top aside from the RARE Fabled drops .However once again you cannot lump everything into one statement as even Fabled stuff is often times crap and yes i mean useless. Now there is the PQ "public quest" in Commonlands and Antonica that have amazing rewards that are listed as Legendary but that is a special event and only in those two zones. There is just too much in the game to be making vague judgmental comments, the game like many is hit n miss all over.I play this game because i believe it has enough positives to enjoy the game.

Then there is the BIG picture,if people have not yet figured out that all those +500 or +50 numbers mean very little well i am sorry for you.The difference from some of the best items are not much difference from the  Mastercrafted.A perfect example is the often used "triggers 1.8x /min".You know how many fights take a minute, unless an epic ...NONE,so your triggers on that gear are near meaningless to the outcome of the fights.

The MAIN thing you want to pay attention to in this game is your spells,Expert is very important and guess what, you can craft them yourself. My last point is far too many people worry  about the end game final gear anyhow, just play and enjoy the game along the ride, quit worrying about what  other people say. Also one of the WORST things to do in EQ2 is take part in chat,it is dam near close to WOW's community, sometimes nice a lot of times trouble makers or clueless people.

Crafting in EQ2 is fantastic once you cap it out and can custom make things through experimenting.

Thank you guys muchly for all the comments. I think I am gonna not listen to the people on the general chat, and do my own thing with it. I def did not know there was a experiment feature. I was really discourage when they were saying the armor I was making would be useless. Many thanks again.

Word of advice, take anything asked in general chat with a grain of salt. That goes for any game. If you were to ask friends or guildmates, you may get a straight answer. It has become quite common for theme parks to have sub par crafting on the way to max level when a game has been out a while. But if you enjoy that aspect, and I generally do, you can almost always find a usefulness to it at some point. Unfortunately, it seems to show up at the level cap in almost every themepark I have played in the last decade.

I forgot to mention a couple other things.

As i said you can't lump a general statement into the whole game. Not yet open on the TL servers is a special crafting that came about very late in the game around expansion 6/7/ or 8 or somewhere around that time.

When that expansion opens up you can craft Fabled gear and at all tiers yes even from level 1-10.That is what those Reactants are used for.
http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Murmuring_Reactant   This is a list of stuff you can make just with the Murmering Reactant.
Here is a picture of one of the items a level 20 chest piece.http://eq2.zam.com/db/item.html?eq2item=04de3d4b833e3bf68aebc669c3620a96

So you can see that you can craft some really nice stuff eventually.

yeah i recall in classic short of raid loot crafted was the best and quest were just vendor stuff.
  • SyanisSyanis Member UncommonPosts: 140
Crafting was huge and the best for 99% out there in EQ2 classic. I played at release for sometime until RL got in the way. I was the top sage, woodworker, 2nd top alc on my server meaning I was in full control of the market for a long time for crafted spells. Before you could semi rarely get adept 1 books from drops but what you could buy at the vendor were normal 2 scrolls and crafted and crafted adepts were seriously better. Also the gear from crafting was far superior to what someone would have otherwise unless they happened to get very lucky on some ultra rare fabled drop. Crafting was really big.

Crafting was also really fun back then as well. A low level could die at the forge and often did which was funny and crafting took a bit of skill although there was a sort of rotation spread someone could do w/o paying much attention to it.

Just couldn't handle the generic stuff, and nodes that drop the same thing over and over, with no stats, with items that never brake. Decided to give my sub to Ryzom, which has all that.
