I imagine this has been discussed before, but I recently read the Harry Potter books. They aren't bad - better than I was expecting. Anyway, the thought occurred to me that that world would make a good setting for an mmorpg. It could even break the 'trinity' mold in a good way. Has anyone heard of any plans for such? Is there anything out there similar?

I really was hoping that I wasn't going to throw up in my mouth today...
in all honesty, I don't mind Harry Potter in the story sense, but I don't think the IP lends towards anything more than childish frivolities. ` Uh oh! That spell backfired! Now Ron is turned into a mushroom! Quick Hagred will know what to do! `
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
At no point did anyone think that they could come up with quality good enough for WB to approve in the end.
I don't remember if it was officially shut down or if they just gave up or whatever though.
Orphan kid with nasty step-parents get wonderful ability and becomes popular and saves the world. Harry himself is suspicious similar to Tim from books of magic.
The real problem with making a MMO out of it is however to make a good and fun magic system, just taking the usual with cooldowns and a bunch of spells depending on your level and specc would feel pretty poor in a game everyone would play magic user.
DIE POTTER! DIEEE!

They also say they will soon show screenshots and videos about the product.
Edit : It looks like they are still going to push the project but won't use the names or info about the IP of Harry Potter for now but the game will remain the same about a wizard and his friends etc..etc..
As a single player game I could see it but not an MMO. You need variety for MMO's to work and it's missing in Harry Potter. Possibly one of the worst choices of IP for an MMO.
