F'N Darkfall, the game in production for upteen years and STILL no beta in sight!

Okay impressive video.

But so were DnL videos. The videos for Dark and Light were awesome and gave lots of people tons of hope for the game that basically turned out to be yet one more huge mmo disappointment in the growing stack of overseas, low man-power, way over-hyped mmos of the past couple years.

They need to really get this thing out and lets see where it's at already. Even a beta ot whatever. Look I understand the fanbois saying that they dont wanna see it released until its ready. But Gawd damn, how many years has this damn game been in development now.

I'm a PvP lover and love the promises made by this game, but honestly I am getting so f'n sick and tired of these games making promises for five or six damn years only to finally release or cancel production in a huge explosion of shattered promises and leaving nothing solid but years worth of lies and deciet.

What are you talking about? The Darkfall devs are getting ready to release a clan beta for some specially selected clans out there. Also I wasn't that impressed by the video, it looks like every other mmorpg out there and doesn't really have it's own feel to it.

Agreed, the orks should have been pink.
And instead of horses they should have been riding flying hippos across a battlefield of strawberry custard.

Darkfall's a cool concept, however it's definately one of those 'I'll believe it when I play it' projects.

I got the Clan email absolute ages ago... did anyone actually get in the game? I haven't and I don't know anyone who has so far.

D&L was rushed and it shows.  They basically wanted to make players pay for an incomplete game so they could finish it later on.  This is what happens when a game isn't properly developed and just rushed to production to make a quick profit.

The darkfall devs on the other hand are taking their time.  Off course they could bow down to the pressure of the countless morons that are demanding an immediate beta and release and unfinished game like D&L and fool fans into paying for pre-orders etc. but that would be pointless and stupid.

No it's better that they take their time, iron out the problems and release a game that you can actually play, and this is what they seem to be doing, and this is why i have faith that unlike games ala D&L, darkfall will actually deliver.

The clan beta has not started yet. We keep getting told "Soon". That being said, I'm sitting on spot #301 for one of the largest clans out there for the clan beta :P

They don't just seem to be taking their time, they seem to be taking a lifetime! Anyway, I was interested in Darkfall quite some time ago and eventually stopped paying much attention to it. Recently I took a look at their character models and found that, in comparison to the games I've been playing the last several years, they look rather... umm... I don't know... assy. The rest of the artwork doesn't look too bad but I have a feeling that once in game... if there ever is one... the graphics might end up being pretty dated looking. I don't know, I'll give it a go if they ever release the darn thing, but I don't have my hopes raised anymore.

I don't agree that DnL was rushed,i think more along the lines of funding was there problem.Right from the start they said marketing would not be used to sell that game,so i assume that meant they had little cashflow to spend.

Darkfall taking so long because they want a polished product?Ever hear of unrealtournament? They put out a polished product every year or 2.So much can go on behind closed doors that people just speculate on.They may have stopped production several times for money reasons who knows?I doubt that taking since 2001 is a good decision ,as the engine will be archaic incomparison to some games coming out like Conan/huxley/sun.Most players agree that they prefer a good game over looks, however you do need to stay up with the times. If they started this game way back in 2000/2001 then they have prolly needed to waste time redoing textures/sound bytes/music to get the game up to standards.Network coding back i9n thosedays was also horrible.Im sure there taking advantage of directx and new ideasthat make games run smoother.

So i think it's more a case of there game getting caught behind the times and having to redo alot of it.i am as of now trying out a free game called silkroadonline that has a better game engine than alot of games people are paying to play.really sad to see so many people paying for sub par efforts.

Well prior to Feb 27 you could not have convinced me in any way that Darkfall is comming out.. However with the Ingame video they launched on the 27th.. I say ingame video not cinematic I will say that this game is moving in the right direction... While the graphics look great the combat looks rather bland, and the characters armor all looks the same as does the combat stances... Hopefully they can continue to work on this aspect of the game.. The graphics game world looks pretty damn good though so thats a plus.

You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

A mmorpg takes longer than a fps.  Yeah I think you are right about getting caught behind the times and trying to make it up, but this can be somewhat of an advantage if you don't mind a wait.  While upgrading they have more time to iron out problems, or rethink somethings that may of seemed a good idea at the time, but turned out bad.  A more polished game could come from a delay because of an engine upgrade.  As long as they get what they want from the game, and don't release it when it is overlly buggy and annoying.

Everyone will see what happens to DF when it comes out.  No real point in getting hyped about it now, or getting angry at it.
