I was in the original Wild Star BETA and also release.
Going into the game, I did not like the character graphics art style, kind of a mix of Loony Toons and Orcs Must Die, but I learned to "like" that style.
Art style aside, Wild Star was fun and refreshing, there was no lack of things to do, and even simple quests were interesting and fun.
My friends and I were having a blast.
The game could be challenging or east depending on the quest and frankly it was more fun than WoW.
Unfortunately, there came a point where the PvP which we really enjoyed got old, and the quests seemed to serve no purpose towards a goal or end game.
Also, the lore was minimal despite what we saw being awesome...we wanted more, i.e. the NPCs needed more character development because we loved them and wanted to know more about them as well as more interaction.
That did not happen.
Moreover, as much fun as the quests were we got burnt out on them because they were never ending in respect to a goal or end game.
The dungeons were very difficult and we gave up on them early.
I am very happy to see the art style has been somewhat revamped and tons of other changes have been made.
Can't wait to try it all out.
Many including myself called Wild Star "World of Warcraft in Space", some said this as an insult, while others said this as a compliment.
I said it as a compliment, even though I felt Wild Star was better than WoW and could easily have been the unofficial WoW in space.
I feel the developers and game designers should feel very very proud of Wild Star, as they were on the right track.
It just always seemed to be missing that last little 10% to be EPIC and genre changing.
I would suggest we all try out the new free to play version of it, and see if the Dev's finally put the icing on the cake.

The game was a little too obnoxious for me, and the shine the flashlight on the ground combat was a little over the top......DOBULE KILL......TRIPPLE KILL !!..........Ya, too much.
You shouldn't have to convince, or force, anyone to play a game. The game play should sell itself. By now everyone is well aware of Wild Star. If the game is good, people will play it, if it isn't, they won't. It's really just that simple.
1) The game was horribly unpolished. Far too many things were buggy or broken. It was actually so bad that sometimes you had to acquire quests by typing in some magic console command that you had no way of knowing even existed apart from by looking it up online.
2) The game was pretty much deserted. You could easily log in, play for an hour, log off, and never actually see another player during that entire time. This was about two months after launch, which is far too soon for a decent game to be in its final death throes.
3) A number of places in the game required you to find a player of some particular other profession to help you out at no benefit to himself. The reason this is so problematic is #2.
4) The controls were really sloppy. The worst of it was that the side directions would sometimes make you turn to face a different direction and sometimes make you strafe to the side without changing the direction you were facing. Which one it chose seemed to depend on how much time had passed since the last attack, but it was a short enough window that it would bounce back and forth in combat. It always felt like I was fighting more against a bad control scheme than the actual mobs that I was nominally there to kill.
Some of that is fixable, especially the lack of polish. But it never struck me as a game having that much potential. If they fixed the glaring problems and made the game completely bugless, it could have been a decent or even somewhat good game, but nowhere near great. I don't feel any need to return to check on a game again if, at best, it might be kinda good.

I had a love/hate relationship with the first version.
The quests held my interest, and it was fresh and unique in a way, and yes it had its share of issues.
But the potential was there, and now there is even more potential.
If you are a hater to the point where you are not going to try it then fine, I could care less, just dont whine about it here and just move on.
However.. threads trying to convince me to play a game with the statement of "still has a chance to be one of the best MMOs ever" leave a really sour taste in my mouth.
Especially given the overwhelming success of the game so far...
Inventory hopelessly clogged up so I am looking for a storage and take a taxi to the capital hoping to find one there.
While I'm riding the taxi.. more calls telling me where to go.
I arrive in the capital .. 11 quests pop up.. I walk a few inches.. "CHALLENGE BEGINS!!"
Reading up on what is expected of me this time.. run south to a certain point in the city.. woops I dared to read the description, that wasted time so my rating goes down to bronze level.
Yeah, the clusterfuck of npcs shouting at you from all sides is plain madness.
This brings back some bad memories
I remember waking up with my first cup of coffee, logging in for the first time, and getting an instant headache.............Damm,that sucked !
It's like the developers were a bunch of adolescent teenagers complete with full body tattoos, earrings, nose rings and lip rings and black skull caps. Then locked in a room to program with a ten million dollar budget to do what ever they please !!!
For example, I hate "Cutsey Tootsie" characters, pets, NPCs, anything.
I hate Cartoon art style games, I hate goofy stuff, silly stuff and humor in MMOs in general.
The reasons are that I am a Warhammer and Warhammer 40K fan thru and thru and Wild Star and World of Warcraft from a story and art style perspective and just in general are the anti-thesis to my beloved Warhammer/40K universe.
YET...I really like Wild Star with all its faults, and wish I could explain it better.
Not trying to sell the game to anyone, just looking for constructive and mature opinions.
Wow kiddies need not respond.
I think what impresses me so much about Wild Star, but moreover the new version of it, is the creativity of the Devs.
It is like where did these folks get all the energy to create all this stuff?
Seriously, there is either an army of creative genuises at work here or a few creative giants of epic proportions.
When I watch the new videos, even when I see something I dont like, there still seems to be 3 other things I do like and like them greatly.
It seems like unlike most MMOs there is no lack of things to do, there is no grind, its all fun.
BUT...I do recall never ever getting any weapon or piece of armor that excited me...I guess that is where the grind complaints might come in.
Still, I had a blast playing with friends and they all feel the same way.
I want to hate this game, but I cannot.
The positives outnumber the negatives so much and even outnumber the BIG negatives for me, that I enjoy it.
Now I will admit, the previous version lacked longevity, but not for the reasons most MMOs do.
Basically, you get burnt out like a kid at an amusement park that finds so many great rides to go on and sugar to eat and drink, that you basically are seen running off into the sunset as a streak of flame, totally insane and bloated due to over indulgence of sugar and vertigo inducing roller coasters and rides.
At some point Wild Star needs to allow you to take a deep breather and recompose yourself.
Player Housing helps this, and man is that aspect of the game great, but without being able to have friends come over and visit and vice versa, it can be a moot point, as its all about showing off your stuff.
I sometimes wonder what would have happened if Wild Star took all of its current ingredients, but instead produced a semi-serious game instead of a kind of tongue and cheek humor type game with epic and cartoony elements.
I will be there on Tuesday for better or for worse...so we shall see.
The main city hub felt very confusing, I dont know why but the main hub felt like such a hassle to navigate. The performance of the game was terrible, I remember alot of lag spikes and just horrible dips in fps. The amount of mobs that were packed into areas was also very annoying, I remember not being able to run 4 feet without aggroing something....
Anyway despite all those gripes i was one of the few who found the art style,Um, lets say interesting... Going to start a fresh toon on tuesday and i hope wildstar will scratch that mmo itch as i am currently not playing anything.
Aloha Mr Hand !
Aloha Mr Hand !
Are you serious? and ...
"Basically, you get burnt out like a kid at an amusement park that finds so many great rides to go on and sugar to eat and drink, that you basically are seen running off into the sunset as a streak of flame, totally insane and bloated due to over indulgence of sugar and vertigo inducing roller coasters and rides."
If either of those were true the game would be a mega success and not the colossal failure that it is. Me thinks you are trying too hard, my friend.
It was not based on building an in-depth Game World with a "they will come" mentality. It was built to make money as quickly as possible. I think everyone knew this. It was trying to chase WoW numbers & was a failure because of it.
