I'm going to hafta remember "Knee to the jimmy" ROFL
Anyhow, I wouldn't call it crap, but I can't imagine paying a monthly fee. My brief experience with it felt very much like GW in the fact that everyone hangs out in a common area and the rest is very instanced.....lonely. I'd rather play NWN.
...and I was so looking forward to it.
I played only in the beta of guild wars and DDO is not GW. Yes, you have combat in instances. They both have fantasy settings with magic and melee. The End.
In other news, character creation and the ruleset used to form DDO were the D&D 3.5 rules which makes DDO very much different from GW. Character development and progression are based off the D&D 3.5 rules which makes DDO very different from GW. GW only allows for a certain amount of abilities per instance and you have to set those before you enter the instance, D&D rules don't do that.. with the exception of preparing spells by certain classes, again a D&D thing.
Ok, spent too much time on this post already.
so...
Well, I know it isn't GW, but for me everything in the look and feel reminds me of GW. I know, as many people do, about the ruleset.
The biggest issue was the all instanced areas and the "lobby" common grouping area.
That is exactly like GW, and I could care less about the rules or skill differences as they are supposed to be different games.
I also care that it has no crafting (which oddly enough is also like GW) but that's besides the point.
The saving fact of GW is it's free to play online. I would have gladly paid a monthly fee if DDO was more...I dunno... MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER.
But that's just my opinion, if someone want to pay monthly to play it, more power to ya.
