WoW lost the most subscribers during Cataclysm.

Yeah, the WoD drop is steeper but that didn't make the first statement any less false.

    Seriously, 2 minutes on Google
    does wonders when posting.
With Cataclysm WoW reached 12M subs which dropped over the course of 6 quarters to 9.1M. A loss, counts on fingers, of 2.9M. Over the course of 18 months.

Post WoD WoW lost 2.9M subs in the first 3 months. And another 1.5M in the next 3 months.  And since June?

A few seconds on Google indeed.

I agree we are seeing a general decline, it's no longer the most attractive option for new players and the game is very stake for existing loyal player. Re wod, I think the issue is that the quality was so poor, ths usual player spike on release quickly dissipated - far more quickly than any other expansion. Less content than any other expansion, garrisons, zones dropped, no new classes, crafting screwed by garrisons and then the usual unaddressed issues.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

    Who cares?

WoW stopped existing a long time ago. What we've been left with is a pathetic excuse for an MMO that's too easy for any real gamer to enjoy. Leaving the world populated by children and bots.

I never insinuated that I wanted to know everything. What I said, and what the gist of the article was, is that Blizzard has lost momentum and, frankly, the interest of many people. As @mnemic666 said, for $15/month, it would be nice to see snippets of information, a willingness to talk to the community or even a screenshot or two. That's not asking much.
There are some really strong expansions this year for competing MMO's. KotFE looks to inject some more life into the SWTOR community, and I believe Bioware is going to succeed. FFXIV has had a spectacular year since their expansion released, and now that ESO is finally in a completed state and buy to play, I just think WoW has a lot stiffer competition than it has been used to in the past. I agree that the Legion announcement at Gamescom was probably premature, and the correct thing to do was make a reveal at Blizzcon, with what you stated in the article, a kick ass cinematic like they usually do. With that said, I do believe that they are right to be stiff lipped about it at least until they can get the meat out during Blizzcon, otherwise why buy tickets? Additionally, they have planted the seeds, and despite all the disparaging opinions, I have found that I thoroughly enjoyed WoD and the Legion announcement just reminds me that I should resub a bit more often this year and play it out some more. Just not sure when I am suppose to do this after KotFE releases, I am a SWTOR disciple through and through.

I did the same thing last time.
Expansion is released, then play 30min... and then WTF I am doing... close and uninstall.
I expect to try to not buy the next one!

crickets == buy blizzcon tickets. are you new here or something?

LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity.
I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already :)

so the community, according to you, just wants to hear the information.  Not debate it or complain about it?
That's not what she insinuated at all. She believes that Blizzard is being too stiff lipped about the new content in the last couple months since they announced Legion. That is all that is being said here in a nut shell. She actually AGREES with you that the community needs some snippets of information to discuss, good or bad, so that some proper hype can be built. How the information is received is up to the true WoW community, you know the people that actually play the game. Just so people know, if you hate a game, don't play or pay for it, you are not a part of the community. Therefore you add nothing meaningful other than disparaging comments that turn people away before they get a chance to see what it is all about for themselves.
