Originally posted by dunadurium Ok, sorry, just one more that i think gives another good view. This is also from that page: "Having played as a necro in EQ1 I've seen this idiots rants on the necro forums. He's the quintesential ADHD no attention span should be playing CS and 'pnzering' people and complaining the whole time. Being a latecomer to EQ he wasn't around during the magic that was the original and possibly Kunark release, before things got much easier. If you would have read the FAQ you would have gotten an idea what the game is supposed to be like ie penalty for death, corpse runs, no insta travel. And being that it's an MMORPG god forbid it rewards soloing!! Hence why Potus was a necro. He could solo and then brag about it on the forums where people actually read his drivel and complimented on how well he played a grouping game solo. But that's a rant for another time and my point being if you want an idea of where Potus is coming from, read some of his crap posted on old necro forums. Then you'll realize what tripe this really is. Once again, it's not a solo game moron, hence why things are geared towards groups! Go buy Oblivion when that comes out or some other offline RPG. Why in the hell would you want to play a massive MULTIPLAYER role playing game solo? Tired of leveling at a normal pace and having a game tailored to one person? Sorry, did it again. DrMarvin"
If the Potus who posted the review quoted by OP is in fact the same potus from the old necro forums then this above quote is a VERY accurate description of the guy. Sadly necro.eqclasses.com no longer exists or I would happily link you his quality posting examples of the past. If this is him, then this review is just so much mule-spit.
I dont think qualifying within the above that people were complimentary to him is terribly accurate though (unless you mean the newer people) - he was the subject of more than a few flames iirc, and was banned as well at some point i think?
My expectations of the game just dropped, the guy sounds like he knows what he's talking about and he seems to know in game depth about it. I'm amazed they would even think to make a game that is that time consuming... not everyone in the world has 5 hours or more to play like others. Quite amazing if you ask me how much time they are asking to play that game. =/
Maybe they'll have a trial or a demo of some sort!
Look who got their posts deleted, hope you all are banned after disclosing NDA information. Thats the worst thing you can do to hurt Vanguard, wait I don't care.........but I reported ya, so I guess I do.

nice sig....it makes absolutely no sense but thats not really surprising. i could be a narrow minded troll and say wow has only kids playing the game because of the average maturity lvl of its player base. but i try not to generalize like you do in every single post you write.
the sad thing is alot of adults that play that game just act like they are 12......and why would kids be interested in a game that is harder and takes longer to master? kids have shorter attention spans (usually) than adults do, so naturally vanguard will probably attract more adults than children.
not only that, but generally kids favor games with pvp more than adults do (not saying adults don't like pvp I'm sure lots do including myself) but i guarantee alot more kids like it than adults do.
so keep on trolling and putting retarded statements in your sig's (your alts included) they make no sense and are meant for flame bait, obviously.
you should really make a sig like this....." vanguard isn't a game for me, it doesn't fit my playstyle...so I'm going to be a total jackass and make 3 forum accounts and flame/insult the crap out of the game and their fans" ...... now that fits you!

Personally i am really looking forward to Vanguard, there is no way it can be worse than the other MMORPG's out there.
Especially looking forward to seeing how the crafting side turns out.
On the topic of soloing... why do so many people slam anyone that even mentions the word, not everyone wants to be social all the time but they still like to achieve things, and then theres the fact that these games are Roleplaying games... people roleplay solitary characters, should they not be allowed to get anywhere?... I am not saying i think it should all be solo, of course there needs to be group things but at the same time there should always be solo things at all levels for people to do if they chose.

Kids would be interested in games that are longer, they have lots and lots of wasted time. ADULTS (real ones that is) have lives outside of gaming like taking care of kids, working, etc, etc. Sounds like you are a kid. The game is in no way harder, monster AI still sux. There is no game, active or beta with a ground shaking mob AI. That is true third generation, a different game it would be with mobs kiting players. Make 4 accounts and post NDA information on the game sounds like you, you got busted!
If you have any questions please ask. I have moved on to WoW from eq and no longer have any desire to play a dead game. Thank you. (posted by another selling his account in EQ1)

lets see, why don't we take a look at your troll post vs mine and see who has a higher maturity lvl shall we? i don't need to have multiple accounts.... i post enough on this one, and i post constructive things that usually contribute to the thread....you just generalize people and insult them.
and if kids like games that take longer....why is it that in eq there were so few compared to adults?
and like i said all you and all your alts know how to do is generalize people, it is more than obvious you are the same person. you post the same generalizations each time with each alt, and they even all have a similar sig!....i have confronted all the supposed arguments you have ever made and yet you refuse to have a discussion about them.
you just come back and troll more.....btw i am not in vanguard beta and i do not condone NDA leaking, you couldn't honestly believe that is me as the OP when i replied negatively to it heh.
and one last thing.....do not pretend you know anything about me, i am an adult that happens to be disabled, i also have a kid but have lots of spare time on my hands......but i guess that doesn't make me a "real adult" since i don't fit in your generalization.
Originally posted by Kem0sabe People fail to realize that the game is still on the second beta of a projected four beta development cycle. Remmenber when WoW was in beta? when all the dungeons looked the same? when druid could fly? when mages could turn invisible? did any of that made it to release? Expect massive changes as the devs continue their work, as such making comments like "omg this sucks" is not very productive.
I'm sorry but the things you talk about being changed in WoW beta to live WoW are cosmetic or single class abilities that were over powered or just not needed. The stuff I see people complaining about in Vanguard are fundamental game mechanics that I'm pretty sure are there to stay no matter how much someone bitches about them. IMO they are making a mistake (just like DDO) in forcing people to group to do anything, other then big raids or bosses. When you cater to one group (people that like to group all the time) you leave out a bit section of potential customers if you make a nitch game that only caters to grouping.

solid point, i agree 100% but at the same time it will be really difficult if not impossible to make a game that caters to every type of player.
i think wow did a really good job of this, its a really great game to solo in lvl 1-59 then it forces you to group at lvl 60 if you want to advance in pve.
while that is great and all... i consider wow the jack of all trades, master of none mmo so to speak, it can pretty much cater to any type of gamer, but isn't a master in any one area (i.e pve solo, pve group, pvp solo, pvp group, end game).
and i think vanguard is pretty much focusing on one area (pve grouping) so while the soloing/raid/pvp aspect might not be the greatest, hopefully those of us who do love to group and do alot of pve will have a great game to enjoy.
just like when darkfall releases there will be a great pvp game for pvp'ers to enjoy, i really do think these games would be alot better if they just stick with one style to attract a certain type of player.
but in the end, its all about the Almighty buck so who knows.....
Honestly, the OP's Mom needs to change the password on their computer cuz her kid has too much free time. If he really beta'd Vanguard this post would have been locked by now, or deleted. Sure did raise some contraversy though with all the posts.
Hasn't changed my opinion about the game though. People posting things like "There's nothing better out there! It has everything!" or "This is the worst game ever and everything about it sucks!" don't really have an opinion worth consideration. It's not a review, it's a waste of time.

Hypothetically speaking of course.
technically, yes even admitting you are in beta is a NDA violation....but why would you need to "cancel" a beta account? its not like you pay to play it lol, if you don't want to play test it...then don't.
They way I see it, not everyone will like every game. Some mechanics may confuse people and people have different attitudes about these things. Now, when someone beta tests Vanguard, they have to agree not to say anything about the content within the game as most of us know.
It's less likely that someone who loves the game and perhaps, therefor, the company would break an agreement like that. You'll mostly only see the haters running about talking about it, and they'd have to be tempermental as well or not smart enough to read what they are signing which would suggest impatience.
I personally will not be paying attention to anyone who says they've beta tested Vanguard and that it, in a word, "sucks". Besides, every game company wants their game to succeed. I'm sure since Vanguard IS still in the beta testing phases it is working very hard to be the best game it can be and live up to everyone's expectations.

Read the February and March beta newsletters and one can see the game has recieved quite a big overhaul since this January review.
Sigil is trying to do quite a lot of new innovative things with its combat, harvesting, crafting and diplomacy. Will it work and be fun. I don't know. But from everything we have read it wll take quite some time for them to get the core systems working well. Maybe they are trying to do to much and it would have been easier just to make another cookie cutter game. But isn;t that why we all are attracted to VSOH in the first place. It looks like from all the revamps and the limited beta leaks we have goten is that the core systems need quite a bit of tweaking. If they take enough time and get those systems working well, it could be a great game.
From the beta newsletters and the information we have gotten they appear to have lots of other content being added and much more coming very soon. The hold back to progress and beta 3 at least my guess is making these core systems work well. Making combat fun and strategic. Making harvesting work better. Streamlining the crafting system to keep it somewhat challenging and not tedious and making diplomacy interesting and useful. Making all these systems fun and polished will take quite a bit of time. But before they get to beta 3 they will most likely have to settle on how each of the core systems will work then only do minor tweaking the rest of the way.
My expectation is they will keep tweaking and testing these core systems until at least May while they continue to work on optimizing the client. Once they are happy with the core systems and the client is somehwat optimized whereby mid level computers can run the game without to many hiccups they will start beta 3. Beta 3 imo will last at least 6 months maybe longer. Theysimply have to to much content to add and to much test for it to be any shorter. They need to get these things right and you don't get a second chance at release.
If they take their time I am confident it will be a very good game. I am encouraged by how much content they are adding and the pace seems quite fast. While the reviewer seems to be a bit biased and slanted he does bring up many good points. While his points about time sinks are in most VSOH's fans minds a positive rather than a negative he does shed some light in regards to the problems they are having with the core systems. But again if they take their time I am sure it wil turn out good. Hopefully they have learned some lessons as to why EQ2 failed so miserably and undrstand the importance of making sure the game is fun and polished.

nice, i agree with everything you wrote.....but i just want to add that most of the problem this reviewer had with vanguard was some of the core elements and it just seems like he is whining about it.
but again I'm sure he is right about some things, and they prolly do need to adjusted (witch you have already said) is in the process of getting revamped.....so I'm not really to concerned, heh

I agree with you about the orginal NDA breaker being a whiner. Take a look at Spirits post a couple above us. It list all of Potus' posts. After reading throuigh his previous posts I would have a hard time taking anything that guy said seriously. But that does not take away my concern about getting the core elements working and polished. Any game needs fun and good combat. If they make combat fun and as stategic and interacive as they have planned it will be a great game. But I just hope they take their time and get it right. We don't need another game with combat as bad as EQ2. What is encouraging to me is that Sigil seems to have no problem admitting when thier ideas are wrong when they do not work out and are willing to make changes. That in my mind puts them ahead of 95% of other games.

This -- http://www.eqnecro.net/board/search.php?search_author=Potus -- told me as much as I needed to know about the NDA breaker.

nice, i agree with everything you wrote.....but i just want to add that most of the problem this reviewer had with vanguard was some of the core elements and it just seems like he is whining about it.
but again I'm sure he is right about some things, and they prolly do need to adjusted (witch you have already said) is in the process of getting revamped.....so I'm not really to concerned, heh
read this http://www.vanguardsoh.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1044304#post1044304 then come back and talk to me about the vanguard/soe fiasco.....
