All are just the same or very similar. Just grinding, lvls, power, chat... no realism, no inmersion.
There are 234524323 mmorpgs that all try to compete for the same market. I dont understand in what think the ones that made them. Maybe they just make a market study to check what most ppl like and just make a game that most ppl dont heat and dont love. So many ppl moving from one to other game and in the end they dont find they are looking for.
Now even the legend has fallen, Dungeons and Dragons, a game of freedom and inmersion, now just one more game of grinding but with instanced dungeons and even no pvp, so even less freedom, and of course no inmersion cause you cant do what you want.
It is impossible to roleplay in these games. How to roleplay in a game where you have chats, where you can send a tell to a person that is miles away.
In the end all players are about the same. There are not special abilities/spells, just the same ones, magical dmg, stun, root, physical dmg, etc.., but no fly, teleport, polimorf self/others, desintegrate, pick pockets, stealth, climbing, etc...
Also no permadeath and no free loot, what is basic to feel inmersion. For instance if kill a merchant i want to get all what he sells, not just crap. They dont even let you kill it. And if you kill it there is no punishment. Also if you cant be killed you dont feel any real danger and no inmersion.

I agree the game is far from perfect.. far from it. But this roleplaying that you speak of, that's something that you choose to do. You aren't required to send tells. You aren't even required to SEE them. I fail to see how being able to send tells or use voice chat spoils roleplaying. Perhaps if you were roleplaying you would find roleplayers and roleplay with them, and this would include no tells, one death only, and no voice chat. These things can be self inforced without ruining it for the rest of us that don't care to roleplay but are looking for a fun game.
They don't let you kill a merchant that other players are using? /gasp /shock -- you mean, you can't ruin the fun for everyone for sake of your roleplaying? OMG, wat a stewped gam!!!
Anyway, I couldn't disagree with your post more. I think you're looking to play a singleplayer game or something where people like you can ruin the fun for each other and call it roleplaying.
so...
I'll judge it once I play it - but from my reading of DDO, leveling is quest based and thus not the traditional grinding of killing the orc camp, medding and then killing the orc camp again.
I agree with you about immersion but I think you'll have a hard time of really pulling it off - you are after all sitting in front of a 17" Computer monitor with a diet coke and a bag of pretzels on your desk. How "immersive" can that really be?
They tried immersive D&D a couple of decades ago on the campus of Michigan State and at least one student died. That brought a quick end to his subscription fees and the Police investigation put a damper on future adventures.
I dont pretend to ruin anything, or that all games are as i say. But i would just at least 1 game that at least is very similar to what i say.
If i try just to talk to ppl that is near me then i would have to quit the game soon as it would be hard to find a guild where all think like that. Dont know why you think i just want to play alone, though it is nice sometimes.
I just would ruin the game for ppl that dont like roleplaying. When i talk about roleplaying i am talking the one which ppl plays in the original D&D, where you CANNOT send a tell miles away to other player. So, i am looking for something similar to the pen & paper RPG, something which plays millions of ppl, and they like it.
Also killing a merchant is somethign you can do in D&D, and you dont think, oh, i am going to ruin other ppl in the D&D world. If you are evil and want to murder someone to steal him you can do it in D&D.
If you want to play just a game without roleplaying or inmersion/realism then it is up to you, but i would like the opposite

I think it is spelled immersion, not inmersion
If you dont get the point, then just play D&D online
Blade with whom i have lived, blade with whom I now die. Serve right and justice one last time. Seek one last heart of evil. Still one last life of pain. Cut well old friend. Then farewell!
The same immersion ( thanks for telling me the right word ) that when you play the D&D pen & paper game, where you also eat and drink. Of course, i am not talking about virtual reality, you cant be 100% immersed, not even the best actors can be 100% immersed in a role, but at least have a near feeling.
Dont know what you are talking about of what happened in Michigan but crazy ppl is everywhere, it doesnt depend on if you play D&D with immersion or not, cause in that way also actors would be potential murderers.
There are crazy assesins that have played just pure action games, others that love satan, others that they just play rpg and also are assesins, and also ppl that dont play anything and kill ppl.

Go away Vanguard troll!
DDO is about grouping with your friends, no evil children allowed to interfere, aka EQ.
DDO is not about PvP, never was, never has been, and no evil PCs, it is clearly written in DnD rules.
DDO is not the stupid notion of raiding, do that in Vanguard, with the 5 other jobless people who play that steaming refuse pile of a game.
If you have any questions please ask. I have moved on to WoW from eq and no longer have any desire to play a dead game. Thank you. (posted by another selling his account in EQ1)
wtf!!! so many stupid things all together.
1 - why evil must be children? i suppose cause if they are not as you like they are children. Also if i am good char i like evil ppl cause if not there is nothing good to do, anyway that is my opinion i dont call someone troll or children to someone that didnt insult anyone, you show how is the troll and children here.
2 - DnD for no evil PCs!!!. Or you have never played it or you just want to convince ppl of something you know it is no true. There are several allowed alliegments, one is Chaotic Evil, clearly written in the real DnD rules not the ones you make up.
3 - DnD dont use to be a raid cause you just can play a few ppl. Of course in DnD if you find npcs that want to join you you could even make a guild, build a castle, own your army, etc...and that is also in the rules, at least in the DnD Rules encyclopedia
I was thinking about Vanguard, now i think it can be a real good option after your opinion.
