OMG!!!! when this goes to beta I will be so happy!!!! alpha phases are not long enough from me to get a fix (although any longer and my wife might leave me....j/k...well maybe)
I just finished hyping the game, gave it a 9:10. I base that typically high score on two factors: the first, the game was really fun to play, addictive even. The second, the time form the end of the Summer Alpha until the eventually Closed Beta, is going dreadfully slow.
I certainly hope CB is sometime in early November.
Played: E&B, SWG, Eve, WoW, COH, WAR, POTBS, AOC, LOTRO, AUTO.A, AO, FE, TR, WWII, MWO, TSW, SWTOR, GW2, NWO, WoP, RUST, LIF, SOA, MORTAL, DFUW, AA, TF, PFO, ALBO, and many many others....
can't wait :pleased: @Bluddwolf good thing is that probably there will be little time between closed and open beta test, also we may expect that beta test will last longer than alpha (alphas were up for ~ 4 weeks)
Game looks intersting and i looked foward to giving it a try but my god, whats up with the 8 bit audio? Music and sound effects have to be the most underrated element in any video game. I look at the most recent game i played Star Wars battlefront beta which to be honest is a really shallow shooter with boring mechanics straight from call of duty 2 but dam the sound effects and music are immersive. Its one of the many things WOW nailed in their MMO, The epic sound track while changing zones and the fantastic sound effects.
Listening to these videos is painful on the ears and light tapping of soldiers on the march sounds weak as hell, The audio sounds like utter garbage, which is a shame cause the game and concept looks fun. Any of you Alpha and beta testers have word on a upgrade when game launches?
Looks interesting. The "economic pvp" related to housing ownership seems pretty stressful to me. I guess the prices will keep going up until the richest will own everything. That will work for engagement of the core players, I'm sure. I'm not sure how it will affect new players coming into the game with zero to start with down the road. It looks like if you want to play this game you'd better get a guild, get early access, and stick with it if you want to keep your house if I understand how it works.
New players can build on their personal island. There you can build workshops for yourself (with 0% tax). Grow food/mounts and sell on market. But, yeah... I have to agree, after this change, land plots in towns will be hard to get for a new/solo player.
About gear... depends what you want to do. Only place where it is very important to have a top gear is GvG (5v5 territory attack/defense) You can be a successful trader/farmer and become rich without wearing armor at all! What for Open world PvP... anything can happen..
With good skills and proper gear you can get many kills.
The isometric view range is terrible, a whole blob of enemies can stay behind the corner and you can't spot them till you are in the screen range, that is very small. The limitations of the portable devices are terrible, at least they can go with a more large zoom for the pc.
I've been following this game development for 6 months now, and even though I haven't played at all, I've been reading a lot and have played similar games before. Im becoming founder in a few days - 100% sure.
What do you think about balancing a bit death loss between equipment loss and destiny board loss? In my experience, having this tension in the game is healthy. Also equipment loss could be covered up easily with powerfull friends giving you silver to rebuy your loss; and even if this is not the case, I think having to "train, practice, re-do" your path, gives another emotional level to the death tension, and it doesn't have to be anything dramatic.
Im thinking for example loosing just SOME of your equipment + a default 5% progress loss overall of your skills in your destiny board progress (fame?); adjusting of course with an algorithm that wont over-punish advanced players, due to bigger absolute base.
What do you think? I think there is nothing as consistent with loss, than something that ONLY YOU can rebuild. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update for first time readers:
What I propose is: A + B = X
X = Actual AO time needed to be as you were before dying; right now only "gear" kind of time is implemented. This is total amount right now. So if:
A = NEW time needed to be as you were gear-wise. (now A<X since you only loose some pieces)
B = new time needed to be as you were DESTINYBOARD-wise
Then I propose A + B = X
See? Total amount (X) is mantained! Its just better distributed between different aspects. I've also emphasise and algorithm would be needed to avoid over-punishing more advanced players due to bigger absolute base.

totally agree, xp-loss upon death would be very helpful, it makes the game more exiting, also it can help prevent scouting with random chars. imagine you can only enter the yellow and red pvp zones, if your characater has accumulated a specific amount of fame (not too much, so it won'T be a major roadblock), so no new created fresh alt chars can just sit in pvp zones to afk scout. now they have to level them up, and if they just stand around and get killed, they will delevel and can't scout anymore. if you get killed, your screen should turn black after a few seconds, so you can't just scout while beeing dead.

The sound of the video is not that good, but that was only Alpha so I hope it's improved.
How gear dependent is this game?
