Good-bye and quitting game posts

d_20d_20 Member RarePosts: 1,878
Do you read them? Have you written any?

I've never written one.

I find that I can't avoid reading them. It's like looking at a car accident.

Maybe I can imagine people writing them back in the 80s or 90s when communities were really small, but now?

Depends, if i am interested in a game then ya, i will read some. If they played the game for a while, not just a 1 day wonder, to see if there are any issues that might also bug me in a game.

People that have played a game for a while that take the time to write something up sometimes have good info on the games, and any problems it may have. Not all the problems they have will bother me though, or the other way around.

But i will take some constructive "i am quitting"  because....over some fan's take most times.

I write them if I have some constructive feedback and there is no exit survey.

I don't write them or read them.  it's kind of like democracy.  my opinion doesn't really matter.

I read em, just for the sake of whining at whingers

I read them, posting depends on the game and what the op says. Some people do need a reality check for expectations though.

When 2 million people vote, your vote is worth 1/2000000 of total.
Here in Florida we understand the value of just a few votes, heck, we decided the fate of the Presidency back in 2000.

But on topic, yes, I do read them, take some with a grain of salt, especially if they are rage filled rants, but otherwise the are pretty interesting reading.

I have written one once ... when a game so drastically screwed with me that I descided, OK, I am willing to tolerate a lot, but this is too much. Basically all my archievements I had worked on for years got deleted, and not buy a bug, but intentional, by a new game mechanic.

I didnt explicitly said that I would leave now, though. I only pointed out what happened and then stated that I'm not amused.

I usually ignore threads like this, unless the thread title says the person is sad about leaving.

  • WarlyxWarlyx Member EpicPosts: 3,368
ppl that dont care about the game leave silently , the ppl that care is the ppl that post i quit threads and albeit wanting to "quit" , they are just seeking for a reason , or others to tell stay !

but yeah overtime "i quit threads" have become : this game sucks , i quit ! ,  can i have your stuff? and so on...usually half of that is ppl wanting to troll and not even thinking of quiting.

Majority of goodbye posts are just a gamer who got frustrated with soemthing in the game that day. But there are those that really find the game and developers of the game really screwed up so they feel like they need to let others know. For me even thou I still play it is ESOTU.

I've found that most of those "goodbye" or "I'm quitting" posts reflect very biased and subjective opinions, and often are not even legit, merely someone that doesn't even play the game attempting besmirch the name or reputation of that game under the disguise of a let-down customer.

I personally neither read them, or care to write them myself even if they were honest. I can understand to other people these posts may seem like valuable feedback, but to me their value is zero. If I am looking for feedback on a game I'm looking to spend my hard-earned cash on, I'll look further than taking the random hissy fit post of a (with all due respect) random nobody.

My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.

FFXIV is full of these quitting posts right now because of the 'lull' in content between major patches. The expansion came out in June, and now four months later with no new content the forums are full of people discussing how there is nothing to do so they are quitting.

Unfortunately theme park MMO's will always have this problem. Nothing new and shiny will lead to people quitting and writing endless posts on developer faults, game design flaws, and lack of community because people are logging in less.

So I want to believe that quitting posts provide legitimate feedback on the game in question, but in many ways they are just reflecting on the current state of content in the game usually just between major content updates.

Never written one, never really read them, sure some might hold pertinent information for dev teams, not being a Dev, means they hold little for myself to reflect on.

They aren't all rage quit posts that smell of popcorn. Some actually are well typed out with more valuable feedback than most suggestion posts. Those surveys games do on your departure can change a game's direction, ya know.

I usually read them, but tend to be skeptical.

Many have an obvious agenda, which causes me to question the legitimacy of the post (haters mud-slinging a rival of their game).  These I ignore.  A replay just fuels their agenda.

Others are more of a personal expression.  Those are sometimes packed with insight (helpful, informative) and quite interesting to read.  To these I occasionally respond, trying to be compassionate in doing so.

The more a person flames a game, the less likely I am to respect the opinions expressed.  Many tend to be someone who got butt-hurt over dumping insane amounts of money into F2P and then regretting it (buyers remorse), or a rage quit over griefing, botting, gold-sellers, etc.  These I ignore as well.

Read them?  Yes.  Hold any value to what they express?  Very few.

edit: Oh, and the dreaded 16 pages wall of text?  Uhm, sorry... not worth a half hours read.

I almost always read them but in my experience, in Avalon at least, people who make a fanfare out of leaving are almost always the ones that don't actually leave. People quitting (like I said, within the sphere of my experience) that actually quit tend to just fade away without dramatics.

I avoid writing them because after I have my hissy fit of running around screaming obscenities towards the developers, I might actually want to give the game another go.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I've read some.  Never written one though.  If I'm done with a game I'll just inform the people I'm playing with and silently disappear and move on to the next thing.  I don't figure a bunch of random people on the internet care what I'm doing.  The only entity that could benefit from a (constructive) good-bye post would be the developers so that they can see what a player did or didn't like about their game and take that feedback to see if they can use it for improvement.

I pity the people that write them. Its kind of an insult to them, but they deserve it. They need to be brought into the real world. I don't usually read them in there entirety. I don't even wish them farewell, I just laugh.

Its a frickin video game. Get over yourself.

I feel it would be helpful to people of your disposition to have a moderated part of the game's forums where only positive statements can be made about the game. Or you can just avoid forums and read all of the press releases and marketing info on the game. Same difference.

I often find posts from players leaving games more valuable than the fanboi posts...They often give a more analytical approach and give both the good and the bad, whereas the fanbois just say "the game is awesome" and thats it.
