Well, tbh I dont think there is best solo ship (or a favourite for me for that matter). It's because I chose a ship for the current task at hand. And if eg a Caracal would be the right ship for a certain job, it might be completely unfit to handle an other. Overall I think the Battleships offer the best flexibility and solopower, since they can be fit for so many diverse tasks, followed by interceptors (which excel in a lot of roles).
The ship I used most often when I solo-NPCed and missioned was the Apocalypse, since it has all the flexibility I need. Only recently was I forced to use a Raven, since lasers are a bit crappy against Angel NPCs
So all in all if I have to solo I use a Battleship or an Interceptor, depending on what I want to solo.

yeah interceptors are probably the most fun ship to fight with (check out the claw for example). But they have major weakpoints: (webs and light missiles).
Battleships cost a fortune to buy insure and fit, and most people don't have the right skills to use them properly. An example is the other day we had a contract to kill a gate camping battleship, once destroyed he never relogged (although he was online almost everyday before that). He probably went broke from the killing.
the best soloship: the assault frigate. you can fight anything with that. Only problem is a small cargohold, that'll give you big problems to carry the loot you'll be getting.
The best solo ship is the dominix, hands down. The domi is currently overpowered and an "I win" button - it can jam effectively, nos heavily, tank massively, and inflict excellent damage, all at the same time.
After that, I would have to say the ishtar and various other HACs due to their mobility - they're a lot harder to pin down than a battleship is.
As far as the other battleships go, the blasterthron configuration of the megathron and the AC configuration of the tempest are also excellent solo ships. The only reason I haven't included the raven in this category is its limited mobility - it's slow and takes a long-ass time to turn and warp. In a stand-up fight, however, a raven is your best friend (as long as it's not a fleet fight, where the instant damage of turrets is king).

if i take a crow, and blow up your caracal. that would make the crow a better ship right?
but what if the caracal turns around and has a web/scram fitted? crow dies, therefore caracal must be the better ship? but we cant have two...
it depends entirley on what your fitting is, and what your piloting skills are like. should i feel like it, i could take a griffin, put 3 amarr jammers, a scram, a single turret and nos/recharge. go jam and lockdown an armageddon and completely incapacitate it. it would take a while, but i would win eventually after about 3 hours. but if you were to ask someone the question, "which is better, the griffin or the armageddon?", 100% of people would say the armageddon.
*EDIT* for the record, all battlecruisers, ferox especially. are crap.a thorax is more than capable of eliminating any battlecruiser in a 1v1, and is less than half the price.
Originally posted by foobik *EDIT* for the record, all battlecruisers, ferox especially. are crap.a thorax is more than capable of eliminating any battlecruiser in a 1v1, and is less than half the price.
What makes the Thorax so good? I've read its speks and alot of ppl in my corp fly them when they could fly Titans.
The specs are nothing to be impressed by. But alot of ppl love them, why?
you won't believe this but, the best solo ship for everything is the manticore, i believe it's name, the caldari stealth bomber, you can easily solo level 4 missions with it. do easy rat hunting, and kill enemy interceptors and bigger ships from beyond 100km range with decent damage output.
the ship is kinda fast, it's a frigate with stealth capabilities, it has great targetting range, and can carry 3 cruise missiles launchers which does their real damage against frigates, as if a cruise missile is a light missile with alot of damage, and of course hit the bigger ships with even better damage.
so there you go, personally i use the minmatar stealth bomber, and i could do level 4 missions with it with ease, it just takes little time because they only have 2 cruise launchers.
as for player hunting with it, you might actually find some problems, but if you play it smart you will score good.
why the thorax? because of its setup capabilities. its good if you broaden your mind and go beyond the "norms"
pre RMR, the thorax had an intense drone bay, bigger than some battleships and capable of emptying out 8 heavy drones with 2 to spare. plus it had the immense microwarpdrive bonus which, with decent skills you could use with very little cap penalty if at all. with the damage the 8 heavy drones gave, there was no real need for guns, especially big ones. (cruiser size). at this point its pick your poison, NOS, Neuts any other hislot item that you can think of.
the personal favourite was NOS, because you could use your NOS to both incapacitate your opponent, and keep up a massive tank whilse your drones did all the work. maybe had two light guns on to take out attacking drones. your choice.
now, the drone bay has been capped to 50m3(i.e. 5 medium drones) and even still 5 tech II mediums do a fairly large amount) but the powergrid has been significantly increased, meaning you can fit on a tank, a microwarpdrive AND a 1600mm plate. using a nanofiber plate your looking at a cruiser with over 4500 armour and the ability to repair it for a short amount of time. stick 5 light neutron blasters on hislot and you can eliminate more than you think.
although i agree with the dominix being the biggest "i-win" button around. but enjoy it while it lasts because im betting a fairly large amount on the fact that the dominix is now first in line to get smacked in the nuts with the nerf bat.

Im willing to bet you couldn't sustain the cap needed for 3hours even with the nos, not to mention that obviously his buds would jump in.

Seriously, what are you talking about? The ferox is capable of taking on HACs in pvp if setup correctly and piloted well and can take on 0.0 BS spawns. I'd definitely call it the best battlecruiser, and the prophecy isn't half bad either.

can you please post ur fitting which had both 1600mm , 10mn MWD and cruiser class guns in thorax please ? I'd love to see that "legendary" settup hehe, and your skill needed for that, I'd love to train for it right away if I know it ...
and BC give a really nasty fights to any HAC's pilot w/ 2 med nos which slowly kill HAC's caps, btw Brutix and Min's BC kind of sucks ... ah Ferox as the worst BC , wat I got here ? wat if I fit some EW stuff and shoot only 1 of my heavy laucher until you die ? wanna know tanking Ferox resistance ? 80% and 7x% resistance my friend, for exact math, go EVE forum about ships and modules to find out if you want. They also required far less SP and money than a HAC and not much expensive to lose too, a good t2 and named Prophercy buying in Jita fully insuarance lost about 6-10 millions.
their only disavantage is: for raiding stuff and ghost fleets, too slow, for serious punch, pick a Battleship, so they have really bad tactical use
I'm giving best ships per size class because depending on what you are flying, you won't engage certain types of enemies. However in these 4 ships, properly skilled pilots can actualy take out target which their ships aren't designed to kill and much more.
It's unfortunate that some modules are so overpowered but, running raven's with Remote Sensor Dampeners, Sensor Boosters and a disruptor in the mid slots with warp core stabalizers in the lows is currently pretty much impossible to get killed in. The Raven can still dish out tons of damage with the 6 launchers and has the 2 spare high slots to fit nos to kill off any small ships that might engage them and the sensor booster/sensor dampeners will keep snipers from locking them and make close range gunships or other missile boats have one hell of a time to try and lock them.
Pretty much the same setup can me used on vagabonds, except, they employ 10mn mwd's and move so fast that no small ship can lock them down in time for a larger ship to attack it. They also have quick locking times, very good resistances and are extremely hard to hit.
Ishtars can have small tanks, combined with a few warp core stabs and alot of mid slots to add EW counter-measures. Combined with the massive damage output of their drones in the case of a pilot with maxed out drone skills, they can kill off BS class vessels solo, take on other hac's/bc's/recon ships and even kill off smaller ships if they equip nos and have scout drones.
Crow is put up there because, it is fully capable of destroying ships that are designed to kill it. Using a 3x rocket launcher + light blaster setup with a 400mm plate will usualy allow you to kill off most destroyer class ships. Ships which are designed to kill off frigates. When going up against any other frig solo, it will win, usualy hands down. There are a few other frigs that CAN fend it off but, they must be setup specificly to destroy the crow pilot where as the crow can just MWD around and pick whichever targets he wants.

I was thinking of a great ship for soloing in systems. I thought of a Blackbird with stacks of racial jammings in cargo. If I get a scan of his ship, I can dock at a station and put at least 3xof what ever racial.. and you already won the fight. I bet you could take out a battleship no problem, just have to worry about the damage.
Originally posted by dRedawg I thought those manticores where nice. I already can fly one, with lvl4 cruise and lvl4 warhead lvl5 missle operations. What lvl4 missions you do?
I tried lvl 4 missions in a Mantivore just for fun. The biggest problem you face are the ships that appear close to you, or you are warped to at close range. Those missions where you can choose your range (eg Pirate Slaughter/Invasion)you can do, but missiel NPCs will kick you hard. All in all its fun to play around a bit, but nothing to consider seriously. A stealth bomber is NOT a solo ship, neither for PvE nor for PvP.

What do you do if there is no station around, or if you are in a hurry? The BB is more a support ship, not so much a solo ship. Frigates and several of the cruiser classes should be possible to kill solo in a well fitted BB (ofc also industrial ships), but for a battleship it simply lacks the firepower. Soloing PvP atm in EVE is dangerous at best, and is best done either in an assault frigate, interceptor, or one of the more powerful cruisers (Rupture, Thorax). This gives you the best power/cost relation.

now that is like saying you prefered when there where only 5 tv channels, or 2 MMORPGs. i dont think you prefer it, it may be more like you felt more comfortable back then. i am sure that if you gave EVE another chance you would like the new ship classes.

Best solo ships by class are pretty much hands down (thanks to the re-tuning of EW modules)
Battleship : Raven class (includes Caldari Navy Raven and Rattlesnake)
