There are a host of sweeping game changes coming to SWTOR when Knights of the Fallen Empire launches later this morning. We were scheduled to have some early hands-on time with BioWare’s expansion, but some technical oddities with the test server and Mike Bitton’s access kept that from happening. Instead, like you all, we’re now watching the clock and waiting for 11am Eastern to roll along.

I never liked gearing companions. One of the reasons I stopped playing was because One of the final battles in my character's story seemed to require a better geared companion and I just didn't really care enough to go scrounging for stuff.

I imagine there would be a few bugs to work out of this revamp. Hopefully everything will go well. Lots of things to do in other games so I can wait and see how this works out before giving it a go if it goes well.

Also when I hear simplification I think preparation for future consoles releases.

I still hope they keep the x12 XP class mission bonus .... i like to try other class stories WITHOUT having to wade through every planet mission content up to 48 times (8 classes * 2 advanced class choices * 3 variants each) Have fun

with the criticial path missions, yes it sounds like you can level up just doing class missions.

so a bit funny the 12 XP was a big sub plus and now it´s becoming core design

From what I know, they didn't.  But now you should be able to level evenly doing the class and world missions, with all the pesky side quests available should you want them.  They've marked what's what by icon.

According to the faq the 12x will go away after 27th luckily (but I think it's now a toggle and not mandatory? Not sure, I rarely play TOR nowadays, but when I do, I always do it when this 12x bs is off...).

Space Treek   why not Star Treek then, Bill?

Personally I don't like the changes, but since I'm not an active player, it doesn't really matter. Stat dumbification is always a big no to me (seems every game is heading in this direction lately), companions will be reduced into a mere toggle, with chat option (at least in LFG threads with pets / companions we'll need to suggest -1 game), and the level scaling is just a bad design choice overall - at least imo. Same with the "create a character at high level" option, spoke against that in every game since years...

Good parts, the story will continue, that's cool. Writing was always good (or at least decent, with some classes) in TOR. Raised character slor limit, great for altoholics. You can get (and then keep) the update with a single month of subscription, perfect for me (and other hoppers), I used to go back for 1 month anyways   As @Octagon7711 says above, there's a lot to do in other games, so I think I'll time it when all the episodes are out, to grab the whole content with a single sub

Not a fan of the direction SWTOR is taking, especially not in the crafting area. EA seeks to take SWTOR more towards it's KOTOR roots, I get that. Doesn't change my opinion on it... if they wanted to do that they should have done it to begin with instead of rewriting an existing MMO... which is how I see KotFE... I see it kind of like the Article's Author does as a Sequel or a Rewrite, not an Epac.

I won't be playing much anymore. EA lost a paying customer with me specifically because of KotFE... and I had been a Subscriber... but that's OK they probably wanted to lose some so they could get a whole bunch of new Players.

Here's to hoping a new Star Wars Era (Movie Era) MMO gets made some day and not another KOTOR Era MMO or some other time period not associated with the Movies. To be bluntly honest I won't settle for anything less in a Star Wars MMO than one from the time frame of the Movies. It's either that or nothing for me. Even a new MMO from the years after the Movies would be fine.

    It was fun.

Speaking as someone who had high hopes for this game at launch and left 2 months later very disappointed, the new direction of Swtor does see promising. Let's be honest, the only part of this mmo done right and enjoyable is the story, more specifically the class and companion stories. I never thought I'd touch SWTOR ever again after launch, yet I've returned twice for the 12x class quest xp to level alts and experience different class stories, and I plan on giving this expansion a try in the next month.

So i've been playing the xpac for the last 2 hours, and I can say this....the story of the xpac up to this point is lightyears ahead of anyting in vanilla, RotHC, or SoR. It even rivals most single player games, and is prob more engaging that anything in KOTOR 2. With that said, in order to achieve this, they did go completely balls to the wall with "single player" in its levling from 60-65. If that deters you, that's fair, but so far its quite the MMO leveling experiance.

Regardless of how you feel about the story of other MMOs, and other MMOs overall, there is no doubt SWTOR has retaken its throne as having the best story content of any MMO (imho, of course).

I don't think I'm even looking forward to the next SWTOR.....To me didnt even feel like a MMO.

If you have the option to make a free level 60 character, are you able to go back and complete the initial class story or are you just SOL?

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?

Yes you can. They added a "Level Sync" feature (e.g. "level sync down") much like GW2's so as a level 60 you can go back and do all quests and still get proportionate XP. They also clearly track how many Class stories you finished. When you finish all 8 you become "Legendary", pretty nice IMHO.

12x xp I think ended with the patch.  You will have to do class and planet missions.  So the planet missions will be the same for all toons on that side.

I really dislike the fact they removed 12x xp.  I think you may be able to do story missions and solo flashpoints to level though.  Solo flashpoints should give level appropriate xp and are repeatable.  It may be a more run option.

I don't know for sure though.  Things will shake out over the next few days.

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

Best we know from Patch Notes:
    Mission Changes
    Story Missions
Class Missions, planet story arcs, and certain Flashpoint Missions are now classified as Story Missions. Story Missions are easily identified in the world, on the map, and in your Mission Log by their purple Mission icons and text. With the Leveling Adjustments made in Game Update 4.0, Story Missions are the bare minimum that you need to complete in order to level from 1-60.

Actually, you can't.  Yes, there's the new level sync, but it's mostly used for dailies, the new Alliance system, and going back to help friends.  There's a big warning when you start the new expansion that once you start it, you can't go back and do class and companion quests that you've missed.  Planetary stories are locked too, but I'm not sure if that's just the planets where that's the main story (Ilum, Makeb, Rishi, Yavin, and Ziost) or all planetary stories.

The instant 60 option, according to what I've read, starts with you already in the KotFE quest- you'll already be past the lockout.  If you want to do your class stories, you need to start at level 1.

I think the all companions can do all 3 rolls is a bit over doing it. The problem was you only get one healer, and if you don' tlike that companion then too bad. I think making all comps have 2 roles, no DPS only would have worked, or giving you an out of combat increased recovery would have been enough for me.

Love it! Started to play today and trying to take it slow just to prolong the fun. Changes were necessary for the new format and though had to get used to it, some features are feel like "why was not it here from the start"? Even ready to admit that "universal switchable builds" for companions and "cosmetic only gear" for them is a good thing. Man, how convenient that role switching! Again, love it!

The great thing about the game were the individual class stories. The classes you like and the different stories made it interesting enough to run multiple alts thru.

Now they've lumped all the class stories into one and there's really little point in running all your alts through them other then to see how your Bounty Hunter fights mobs vs your Jedi which you've done from level 1 to 60 already.

But they've really put a lot of work into expanding the cash stop.

I wouldn't call it a sequel. Everything is still the same, except that a few skills, and stats, are changed and removed. It's more like a mini-expansion than an actual large expansion when compared to other mmos.

There's a reason that they did this course change, instead of making another KoToR.....They can't! Disney threw out all the old cannon, and shut down two Star Wars games that were in development due to them conflicting with their new cannon. They made a deal with EA to continue making battlefront games due to their profitability. Along with that deal, was special permission to continue licensing on SWTOR since the elimination of cannon would allow Bioware a lot of writing freedom. They used this licensing agreement to unofficially bring us KoToR 3, in an episodic delivery. Which, imo, is the absolutely perfect way in which to deliver an RPG with todays development costs, time restraints, and consumer demand. Stop looking at SWTOR as a Star Wars MMO. Start looking at it as KoToR 3, with extensive massively multiplayer features.
