The truth about rfo
How can people bash a game they so clearly do not understand. I have been hearing a lot of complaints about the combat system, the grind and the lack of content such as quests.
This is a war game, about waring factions, made of real people. Why would i want to get a scroll for some guy who will give me something in return when the end result is always going to be war with a few hundred of my comrads. The quest system, though basic, is designed to get you ready for it, get comfortable with the controls, your skills and the like. Not to get you a pretty hairpin to make you different from every other grunt in the game.
This game, regardless of how old it is, is still inovative. Granted you may not get your pretty and invidiual uniform to prance around in, but you can develop your charators SKILLS to be very different from other peoples and in turn useful in the only part of the game that really matters "WAR." It is more like battle field 2 on acid than a typicle mmo, and that it what i personally like about it
In additon the grind is less tedious imo than other mmos i have played and the combat system beats down the standard turn based system in place in almost every "western mmo". And why should'nt i be able to chug down potions if I want, do you need to take a break before chugging down your capri suns or mountain dew?

I purchased the game on friday and i totally agree to the above post. i think that RFO has a lot to offer but u only have to be patient enough to get high lvl in order to figure out the real game.

i didnt have to be patient in WOW in order to start having fun....RF blows.....if your going to play a hell-grinding type game...go play lineage II...it is a far superior game when compared to RF.

the thought that you put behind your posts is mind boggling, i am really suprised that you were unable to grasp the concept of this game. saying something like, i didn;t like it because it didn't offer me this or that would have been adaquit, but to say this game sucks because it sucks and play wow is just above and beyond.

You clearly have no other experience with MMORPGs. If you did, you would see all the areas where this game falls short both up against western and other asian MMOs. Lineage 2 for example, despite having a higher grind proportion, is a far superior asian game. There is more context, more customization, more variety as a whole to that game compared to the weak-founded RFO.
I will take any western game that offers content and a lack of potion spamming / skill smashing / time wasting moments. The game has no variety, and variety, my ignorant cross-eyed friend is the spice of life. So before you decide to run off and join the RFO circus, make sure you know what you're getting yourself into. Asian clowns are even scarier than western ones, and you're clearly not looking at things in the right context. Get it?
People complain about this game and say it's a horrible waste of money because it is. And if you weren't stuck in your 14-year-old world of asian hentai anime porn, you'd probably agree...
to defend myself i have played many a mmo. my tenure in order are eq, ffxi,coh, daoc, wow, ffxi (again), sro, maplestory (don't ask why) eve briefly, and now rfo. while i may not have given everygame a fair shake, because i grew partial to ffxi, i have concluded that rfo is in fact what i was looking for. i am not claiming this to be a perfect game but it is the closest thing to what i want available today. I am a believer that mmo's that aren't based on pvp or rvr are pretty much just video games with chat features. I have perhaps fallen inlove more with the idea than the game itself, but the game is holding my interest for over a month now (incl beta) which is more than i can say for most of the games i have tried. not to say that i didn;t play more than a month, just that it was no longer truly enjoyable.
i am able to see why people may not like this game, it is not traditional, it is a grind, controls are ackward at times, pot spamming etc etc. All are valid points, but i've chosen to look past that and into the spirit of the game. This is what i have concluded, it have a purpose, a meaning (though it may only last 8 hours at a time and repeat).
are you eluding toward me being a anime peto because i play thins game? that is an interesting take on it, asians develpers have made some of the most significant strides is mmo's, sony, square-enix, etc. in addition half of the developers for most "western" mmo's are asian. Boggled, i think i best take my chances with rfo, regarless of what you or any other rfo flamers may think.
As i have posted many times in the ffxi forums, it would just be nice if i could talk about relivant points of the game i enjoy, without having to defend it or being called a peto. I do not believe that will happen unless mmorpg.com were to remove the ranking system for games so wow fan bois didn't feel threatened.
You good sir are full of shit? YOU PLAY SWG end of story you cant talk shit down on any grind or any shit game. Your game has been classified as shit revamped TWICE and still failing it only survives because of its tag. Next the fact you broke down and started insulting him on a personal level makes whatever you just said null and void since someone who sinks that low clearly can't pull there head out of there ass long enough to learn anything.
I would also like to say i agree with the starter of the thread RF is fun, innovative in some aspects, needs work in a few others but guess what every MMO does. I also agree ohh shiny things gg wow is a care bear dress up doll.
i don;t quite understand why it gets personal. I am happy that i will never have to deal with people like you while i am enhoying this game. if you gave it a fair chance and did not like it that it fine. if you could say that your didn;t like it becasue of some reasonable list or reasons that would be fine, even if you posted it on this forum. but to say it is nothing compared to other mmos and if you don;t see it my way then you attracted to little girls is a whole other thing.
WoW post 60 is equally as tideous and dumb. anyone that would go through hours and hours of raiding for one item, only to go through hours and hours of mindless farming for honor just for a decent rank is someone who doesn't enjoy what a true mmo can bring, not saying RFO is always that, but its better then WoW
Anyone that say Lineage 2 is superior to RF Online need there head examined big time. ( maybe you used to many of those mysterious potions?? ) Anyway I dont call superior castle siege that only happen once every 2 weeks that last only a few hours and only brings a reward to the clan that actualy claims it. Also I dont call the 7 sign a feature when its always the same side that wins because no one bother to compete from the other side since its easier to pay 50k and be on the winning side. I dont call superior a pvp system that punish PKers with karma, equipment drops, I dont call superior a game that make guild wars pointless since no one want to lose any of there precious XP. I dont call a game superior were class change quest takes 2 or 3 days of farming X mobs to get that unique quest item that get you 10% of the quest done. I dont call superior a game that when the GM do a live event and the insteant there more than 50 players in your screen you either, lag to death, crash, have to put your graphics to the lowest setting to the point you feel like your computer a useless piece of crap. I call superior a game that use a FPS shooter engine instead of making there own optimize engine.
Do you want me to go on?? Ho by the way I played on Lionna since Close beta only stop since RFO beta for US and I gotten like 7 char over 50+ with at least 445 hours clock by Xfire ( to witch another 500 hours were not log by Xfire at least. )
LOL actualy I never bought any adena, got most from people leaving the game, I played it that long because did have some interresting ideas, and I dont play a game 5 minutes and decide its garbage like you. I really really give it a try the best I can. I had a good clan in L2 until they disolve because they got bored of L2, join another same story, I only got 1 char from all 7 equip, 2 times I quit the game because of lack of interrest, got boring, came back to give another go since there was nothing interresting out. That was like switching in between FFXI, WoW and L2 during that 2 year period.

EQ1 (65 wiz/PoP)
DAoC (50 Thane, 50 Healer, pre-ToA)
EvE (Caldari,Amarr Bship pilot)
CoH (40 Scrapper, 40 Blaster)
WoW (60 Priest, 60 Warrior)
My Verdict:
I like it, but it's not for everyone.
This is NOT WoW. It's not even meant to be like WoW. If WoW is what you cut your MMO teeth on, stay there.
In most MMO's, success is measured by what level of content you've achieved/experienced. RFO is not content-based. The PvE content is (currently) only there as a grind. Love it or hate it, that's what it is. The real meat of the game is the PvP aspect, which IMHO is far superior to WoW or anything else out there ATM except maybe DAoC (of which this game is remarkably similar in design). Also, success in many MMO's can also be measured in how pimped-out with uber gear your character is. While there is some variety of gear in RFO, it's not how your character is defined. Which personally, I am thankful for. I would rather be defined by my skill and my actions that whether or not I have uber-rare-glowy-sword-of-doom. This game is all about your faction, and the overall long-term success of your faction.
So in summary: if you want an MMO with lots of PvE content, instances, raids, big boss fights, rare items and long involved quests, STAY AWAY FROM THIS GAME. If you want good PvP, faction-oriented PvP, and don't mind the grind (I don't seem to) then maybe give it a try.

Truly, you make accusations you cannot support. You did indeed respond, and you don't know if he did or did not play L2. You must care if someone likes or dislikes you, as you've pointed it out in your response as a point to discuss.
