EVE Online: Patch and Power of 2

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

EVE Online has a pair of announcements for us today. The first has to do with the new Blood patch that is ready for download now. It's about 72MB long, and can be manually downloaded. The second announcement involves a "Power of 2" deal. Basically, you can create a second account with a 6 month subscription for 49.95€/$:

Blood patch ready for download
The new Blood patch, which is being deployed today Thursday to Tranquility, is now available for manual download here [available on official site]! It contains the new Bloodlines and is 72MB. Tranquility should be up and running 18:00 GMT, maintenance taking longer than expected.

We got numerous requests for a Power of 2 promotion with the release of the new Bloodlines. The Power of 2 enables you to create a second account with a 6 months subscription for 49.95€/$. Go to your Account Management page and log in on your current account and select the Power of 2 promotion.

They obviously just want to get more money out of their current subscribers. Instead of attracting new players by making the game more friendly toward new players.

Did you know that a new player in eve has absolutely no chance to catch up with a veteran player ever? You will always be fodder. You will spend the first 6 months of your eve life doing menial tasks, while waiting for skills to train to the point where other players are able to use you as fodder.

That's just such cr*p. After six months, I've been running my own industrial corp for five and a half months and am making a tidy profit selling t1 frigates and destroyers. Read the "how to have a good trial experience" sticky on this forum and don't listen to the doom-mongerers, I say!

Also, note the part of the announcement where it mentions that it's the PLAYER BASE asking for the cheap second accounts, not CCP "deciding to make more money" from them...

You remind me of a person who never seen anything, never tried anything and only hears things. So then you take what you hear amlify it in your own twisted imagination and spray your uneducated opinion on everyone else. My advice to you, if you dont know what you are talking about just shut up.

Ahh, a troll. Not only that, but one who is talking out of his boots. You know absolutely NOTHING about this, yet you come on here and put up that drivel?

The player base has been requesting this deal to come back so they can train up one of the new bloodline race characters. Its a good deal, and a lot of the players will then at the end of the six months move the new character to their primary account.

As for the training, that is so patently incorrect and silly that I won't even bother, as that is the level-grinder's perspective and if the poster had done even a LITTLE research, he'd have found several threads here on MMORPG that show how stupid the poster's thoughts on "catching up" really are.

Of course there is no accounting for some people's IQ, and any ole' idjit with a keyboard can post. ::::12::

So I'm assuming by "get more money out of their current subscribers" you're referring to the fact that CCP is one of the only companies to give free expansions and give a discount on a second account?  I've never heard of a company giving a discount on a second account or free full-size and content expansions.  Thanks for the attempt at bashing a great game.  Try again later.
