Port Olisar will be the start/spawn area in the upcoming Mini-Persistent Universe testing area. Its a spaceport orbiting the planet Crusader in the Stanton system. Its a place to park ones ship and get some of the missions shown at the Citizen Conference 2015 in Manchester. I forsee that people will do Crashcar races through the corridors in the near future ;-) just like they already do in the Area 18 landing zone Social Module testing ground on ArcCorp in the Stanton system. Have fun

You  - like me -  will be landing on airless moons (and maybe planets) and driving across dusty landscapes MAKO style like in Mass Effect. You may find crashed ships or could be attacked by enemy bases and ships.

Those moons and planets wont have atmospheric effects, vegetation or population, only technological artifacts/weapons.

Not quite the same as SC or NMS, but still cool.

Oh but it is my friend, because once the framework is in place expanded this system will be beyond easy. It looks very good. Very impressed.

Or you can do both. Funny how you compare the two though, as if E:D was on the same level of complexity as SC.

I always try to be fair in commenting on what i see. That video was pretty good,i see some decent quality in the work. The only negative would be that it uses the same metal texture almost entirely throughout the map.

I noticed he was trying to make us look at the sky to see the umm "forgot my terminology" but the bright star in the sky which is ummm grrrr oh yes a Corona !!.Only see one in that map though lol.

Here is the dealeeo, that map would not be more than a few people working on it,from maybe 2-3 people making those textures to maybe 1-3 making the map layout. One guy can design that entire map in 1-2 months.1 Guy can make all the needed textures for that map,so it is quite possible only 3-5 people worked on that entire map.err space station.

This game has been ongoing around 2 years?I have yet to see 2 years worth of work, albeit they might have had to spend several months making a game engine,if they made this engine themselves.

Maybe I've missed it, but all of the videos I've seen so far show the character walking around or riding in a vehicle, and that's pretty much it. In total I think I've seen about 10 seconds of space combat which seemed to be rather generic. Are they going to actually show combat at some point? Or if they have, can someone point me to a video? Thanks.

Google "Star Citizen Arena Commander"  (Video only)

    About 726,000 results (0.38 seconds)

"Vanduul Swarm" "Vanduul  Coop Swarm" "Star Citizen racing" etc.

and you will get a few thousand player videos of ship combat (PvE, coop PvE, PvP) and ship racing.

I totally agree, in order to do "the impossible" it shouldn't take more than a couple months.

You might be in the right ballpark with textures, and level design. Character design will take a month per character, probably. The engine, though, is like a sink hole. This is where you have cascading knowledge gaps and real problems. It's entirely possible that engine problems could cost you 6 months. It's entirely possible that you may need to revert to making concessions on certain features in order to make a feature reasonable. However, that doesn't mean there's never time spent on finding out that what you're trying to do isn't going to work. No, you invest the time and then you have to go with Plan B.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't understand why people believe that we should be seeing a product after 3 years, if we consider the fact that most games take 5 years or longer. Overall, I think it's all a little pre-mature to say we aren't seeing results.

I really hope SC will add an option to remove any kind of head bobbing and stuff. I start to get nauseated just watching this video. Played Tomb Raider for like 15 minutes before I had to stop for the same reason. I just can't handle games moving the head like that. With the goal of realism they have I really hope they consider things like this.

And because of the management style and project organization, Roberts games take longer.....

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

But that has been the case for how long?

Just look at Twitch: what are the chances that any SC streamer is playing the same race track, the same instanced pvp battle fot so many months?

Maybe because that was what we were told during the original kickstarter and again in 2013 by Chris Roberts himself.  It was also implied during the first two years that additional money would help bring the game to launch sooner.  It was sometime after that the story changed and it wasnt like it was a big announcement, it was one short sentence in a multi-page letter from the chairman that was easily overlooked.

I hope this clears up any "understanding" issues you may have with this topic in the future.

During the kickstarter didnt Roberts say the game had been in development for 1 or 2 years prior to launching the kickstarter?

I dont really care what happens. He lied from the get go IMO and continues to do so.

No wrong. He had worked 1-2 years (investing his own money) developing the prototype demo you saw during the presentation.

All good, but when do the kick starters get to play any of this, as anyone can make a video and post it.......

Yes but if you look at a lot of Early Access tiles on Steam, you get to play a working model, RSI has never really released anything to prove that what they are doing is actually a work in progress, as anyone who knows how to use UDK4 (which is free to download) that you can easily make a video of what you'd like the general public (gamers) to believe is an actually game you are working on, but instead make a video to build hype, take money and *Poof!* vanish with it all.....

You mean nothing as in not like dogfight module ?
Or do you mean nothing as in not like the racing?
Or perhaps you mean nothing like the Interiors of the social module that got added that we have access to?

Just trying to get which "Nothing" you are referring to.

I wouldn't say ED's walking / driving on planets is the same as SC's. Cause while the framework will get put in place I really doubt we will see much use of it, just like the flying in space that is very very barebones. Do you not think they should have focused on making the space more interesting / more to do before moving onto driving on planets. Cause at the end of the day its just going to be two barebones systems and thats all there is too it. Then they will move onto something like walking on stations and that will be barebones with the other systems. Finally years down the road it may all get expanded on and become a real game instead of driving on a planet and flying in empty space.
