get a squad that follows the zerg. its a lot more fun than carebear outfits that think they're doing such a good job by stopping others invade their continent right from the start.
Zerging (huge endless battles) are very fun, and once u get some BR and get your equipment sorted u can have loads of fun (atleast when its populated).
However there is little diversity in the game (as in any MMORPG, its just a matter of time till u get sick of it). If u like playing de_dust and de_dust2 all over every day, you'll surely enjoy this game! Just don't expect anything more of it (especially since the incentive to level is gone once u reach a high BR, I got bored of it rather quickly)
It takes time to learna nd get good. At first the game is hard, usually get killed constantly but as you play you get more certs, better weapons, mor vehicles and learn how to kill, the normal just point and shoot tactics do not go very well here.
My friend hated tthis game when he first tried it but after about 2 weeks he loves it and we are still playing, that was 3 years ago lol
It is the only true MMOFPS out and the shear scale and openendedness of the game as astouding.
Can anyone tell of a game where you can have 3 armies full of tanks, planes, troops, mech units all fighting together in a FPS style outdoor / indoors environment? There are no others. PlanetSid eis the daddy of games and will be until Huxley comes along.
The biggest strength of PS is that its very human in nature. There are no quests its all about intereacting with your outfit. Join a good ooutfit and use the voice comms programme Team Speak for an optimal experience.
Its let down also by being human. Some people like the gentelman above thank that zerging is good. Its not. PlanetSide can be played best with a good outfit doing tactical stuff lilke blowing up generators or taking n enemy tower.
Serously try this game, it the best thing on the market and it's 3 years old !

You forgot about a game, WWII Online. That was acually the first MMOFPS. THis was probably the best idea ever for a FPS. Huge battles fighting over a content without zones. I constant changing battlefield with an acual end game!!! You could acually take over all of Europe, then the server would reset and the battle would start all over again. The game now keeps track of stat and rank. Yes the graphics are outdated but the game paly is jsut so realistic. !1 shot and you might die, jump in a spit and fly 20 mins to the battle to only get shot down when you get there lol, very frustating but alot of fun.
BUt if I had to choose, Planetside wins becuase the game play is faster and the game is just easier.
"I played it for about 5 min am i missing the fun in it or is it just not all that great??? "
You played the game for 5 minutes and are actually asking this? Did you even get past the character creation? Honestly I don't see how anyone could ask that for any game no matter how good or bad. Did you even find a weapon or fight at all? In 5 minutes did you even figure out the interface and get into a fight? In 5 minutes did you try out all the different vehicles? In 5 minutes did you participate in a base takeover? In 5 minutes did you actually do anything?
There isn't an *MMO* in the world that you can play for 5 minutes and even scrape the tip of the iceberg on...
Follow the fights - join a squad (hit P in-game) - and make sure you do all the training - which takes 20 minutes alone - because it will get you to Battle Rank 4 without firing a shot. Then I'd start out with the Unimax certification if you're new.
Also, to the person who compared WWII online - is that in a persistent world like PS? I thought it was more round-based like CS or Warrock. I think the term "MMOFPS" really should only apply to games that have a persistent world - round based games will always have a limit to the # of players, even if that number is high (i.e. 64, 128).
You play for 5 minutes and you don't think it's fun? Do you have ADHD? The memory capacity of a goldfish (i.e. 10 seconds)? I don't mean to flame you but like another poster said, you can't even begin to scratch the surface of anything "MMO" related in 5 minutes let alone weeks. If you're looking for something more "immediate" then perhaps you should run along and play Unreal, Quake or Battlefield. If this is your first MMO, then I apologize and recommend that you stick it out.

Nope, WW2O is a persitent world. I use the term somewhat losely because it does endure server resets so it's not a "true" persistent world.

it is one huge giant world that would probably take you 24 hours on foot to run across, no joke. It is not round base, it is jsut like PS but it takes you longer to get back in the fight after getting killed. Vehicles work different also, there is a limit to how much armor can be out on the field at once from a certain town.
When I was playing I used a Stealth/Hacker setup that I really liked under the Terran Republic (if memory serves this name is correct) Nothing was more fun for me then sitting stealthed outside of an enemy tower, watching and waiting for your moments, stalking ever closer to it. Watching the entrance and waiting for the surrounding fire to slow down, then rush inside and hide in the corner, sneaking down to the bottom while people are busy running up to defend it. Then getting down and hiding behind a terminal, hacking it, and then coming out in my full MAX suit, anchoring down and then reigning down death in a grenade shower that cleared the room and killed the spawn tubes.
No matter what your general style of play was you can find a decent combination of skills that will let you be a well rounded player that can help out in various situations, and if you look at the skills you can see alot of things that work well together.
VANU OWN!!! We started out pathetic, heck I used to charge Vanu laughing. Now though, WAY to powerful
The TR were nerfed to hell
the NC is forgotten. They have a good tank and a great weapon as the Jackhammer.
There is no need to play the TR anymore. Their weapons are not good at long range, nerfed to hades, and they cant compete against the Jackhammer and the Lasher I believe it is in bases and Towers.

BFRs ruined the game as well.
