(WoW) Did one of my regular solo Molten Core runs - had both legendary bindings for the Windseeker drop in that particular run. Since i was home sick i spent the day farming Thorium Ore in Winterspring so i could make the legendary weapon. I spent something like 6-7 hours straight, so i became like a robot - extremely efficient at picking up the ores after a while. The rest of the materials wasn't a big deal and i had most of it already so at the end of that day i had the weapon. Went to sleep feeling pretty good.
Next day i was banned for botting. After a long conversation with a GM i finally managed to reduce the permanent ban to a 1 week ban and my account was put on a "final warning"-status. The GM literally told me that if anyone reported me for saying "fuck" in the chat i'd be permanently banned without warning. The advice i was given to not be banned for farming in the future was "play more varied", but he still thought i had used a bot. The fact that i picked up almost the exact amount of ore needed for the crafting wasn't important - nor the fact that the rest of my activities that day were almost exclusively about making that weapon.
So... don't farm to hard, you'll be banned! Worth nothing is that this was on a classic account i've had and been active on since early launch.
Never been banned from an official server of any game, but I've been banned from countless fps servers and mmo emu servers for winning. Usually they call it hacking or cheating, but if me, my clan or my guild weren't doing well, you know those kinds of accusations would never arise.
I haven't been banned for anything in any game. If you have been, I suggest that you take a good long hard look at your behavior and change it.
Same here, not saying i'm a goody two shoes but to get banned from a game is pretty pathetic imo. I do understand that some people get banned through account related instances of no fault of there own though.
As part of my job, I have personally banned quite a few people in MMO's. As such, I generally understand how NOT to get banned. Having said that, I have been banned before.
I was once banned by a competing company for winning a contract for a game made by their parent company that they wanted to launch (we launched instead). They were really not happy about this, and when they noticed that people from our office ip were playing some of their other games, they banned us all (just in case we were going to try to take those games also).
Being one of the top players in numerous F2P games without putting a dime. I was butt hurting too many of the players that have put hundreds if not thousands on their toons, lol. P2P 4 Life~! But sadly, not subbed to any P2P titles, since nothing is making me move from Elite: Dangerous

Salvage Dupe bug in FFXI. Honestly think its still not fixed to this day lol.
Ah, the day a large portion of the endgame community in XI will never forget. I think my group was the only group not doing the exploit. Someone had stolen it... I contacted Blizzard and they gave me my account back. However, all of my items were gone. When I sent in a request for my items, I was banned for "Attempting to defraud the roll-back system with hopes of gaining duplicate items."
In FFXI a Croatian/Serb player saw my character name (Albanian) and started to curse me out of the blue. I didn't say anything but followed him to the dunes (lv10-20 leveling area) as Samurai 75 and was killing all the mobs before his party pulled them. All members of that party reported me and next thing you know I was in game jail and minutes later got account permanent ban. Had other CD key back then and started from scratch. I was abused by a racist yet again I got permanent account ban.
I was suspended for 3 days because I was trying to convince someone to hand me their gear. I told them I could duplicate it. I couldn't. I just wanted to steal it. He reported my statement to a GM, they took my to UO jail for 3 days. No joke. When I logged on my toon was sitting in a dark room with four dungeon walls.
I argued with the GM that he should not suspend me for saying I could dup gear. There was NO proof I could, or that I would. Scamming was not an offense one could be suspended for during that time. It was considered a hazard of the game. I made millions in UO gold scamming other players.
I accidently accumulated enough friendly fire points in World of Tanks and received an auto ban for three days. Did not even try to team kill. Online gaming since 1997, first ban ever and was a huge surprise.

Not an MMO specifically, but I was banned from an FPS server for being black. The other players heard my voice, and maintained their decency throughout the rest of the casual match. The last round, one of the players said, "Unkkut, we just wanted to let you know, this is an online lynching.", and I got banned from the server.
