On the second day of BlizzCon 2015, we sat down with System Designer Joe Shely and Senior Level Designer Matthew Berger to go over the particulars of Diablo 3's upcoming big patch, 2.4. Starting off, Berger discussed the new zone, the Eternal Woods, featuring roaming yetis. He added that the royal manor of King Leoric would finally be available to players now that the cultists have moved away from the entrance.

Imagine how staggeringly good D3 would have been now, if it had started something like in the beginning!
    Perennially extricating the extraneous

i wish D3 would just release official dlc zones and lore rather than these tid bits of patches.

My feeling is that they had most of this planned, but why sell a finished product for 40 bucks, when you can charge for 2-3 "expansions" which fix things. They also need regular updates and fixes, in order to keep people interested. Next expansion will launch with runes and runewords, anyone taking my bet?

They still have barely addressed build diversity which for me killed the game. Artifacts are a start, if you want to consider it diversity, but barbs, for example, will still wear only Raekors+IK or WW set+IK..same for other classes. One or two viable sets...the rest are sub par when youre competing in Grifts. They need to move away from encouraging builds around sets and move toward encouraging builds around skills. Plus...Im curious how they are able to develop this content without a steady stream of revenue. After ROS released, Im sure in the following months their revenue stream dwindled. Here we are, what 1-2 years after ROS release and Im sure their revenue stream is nothing. How can they put out free content like this? Not complaining, legit curious. Regardless, until build diversity is an issue of the past, I am sticking with POE(been playing since July). My own creativity is the only thing holding me back when I decide how I want to play the game.

They need to move into the direction of what Lineage Eternal and Lost Ark are doing. Maybe it is why they were recruiting for an Art Director not so long ago, maybe they got a new diablo project under wraps, maybe the next project is a mmo theme to take on the two new mmo's mentioned above. I appreciate what they are doing with the current content with Diablo 3 but as we all know Blizzard like to spread it extremely thing, with new patches for seasons and expansions for WoW (I think its time to make WoW 2.0 with Black Desert Online Graphics), I will continue to play seasons as they are fun to play with friends and clan members but it can only go on for so long.

I don't think Blizzard has the engine to create modern MMO. Either way their "Project Titan" was supposedly something like Wildstar, and we all know how that game failed. It's barely above the ground for now. Blizzard won't risk such a hard project anymore, when they can create simple games and they'll sell anyway as long as there is Blizzard name on them.

watch the video they address this, they want people to have viable builds with not only all sets, but purely legendaries

Well I think they didn't have it all planned and just over time gauged the communities reaction to the overall gameplay and added things based on what sounded like what people wanted. They have added quite a bit of content without charging for another expansion yet, and this patch is definitely up there with more content for free. It's been over a year and a half since the last expansion and they continue to add to the game without an announcement for a new one yet.

Honestly I hope you are right with runes and runewords, that was one of my favorite parts of Diablo 2.

Probably not true, considering the game director who gave us the original D3, Jay Wilson, is long gone. Since his departure, the D3 dev team has been working steadily to undo everything he did, taking D3 in a completely different direction. That hardly seems planned. I appreciate that the conspiracy by gaming companies to screw players by withholding parts of the game as DLC is a convenient response, but this simply doesn't apply to D3. There's been only one expansion is three years, while most of the significant changes, like 2.0, have been freely patched.

I was hoping for more, but really maybe this is for the best... Though D3 is hugely improved over the original release, it is still not a very good game because of the base mechanics. The art style, class design, and item design all leave a lot to be desired. No matter how much good content they add, I do not think this game ever has a chance of being a truly good diablo game. I was hoping for an expansion announcement, but maybe what I really want is for them to drop Diablo 3 and start working on Diablo 4... and keep Jay Wilson the hell away from it.

remember when jay wilson's team spent 8 months trying to salvage the launch version of D3, before blizz decided to pull the plug on his antics once and for all. saying everything was planned reminds me of the people who 100% believed drop rates were secretly being influenced by auction house market prices (bust out the tinfoil hats)

I think D3 has turned into a great game, I would like them to continue adding too it, like more classes, more specs, deeper paragon specialization options etc.

Cant really see what D4 could bring

You can be sure that Lineage Eternal and Lost Ark won't be a half screwed game. And for Blizzard's sake, it's all about self image and reputation, yes D3 is costing them quite a bit, but will cost them even more if they decide to pull the plug on it, their image would take a major hit considering that Blizzard started out with Diablo 1, being their 1st major worldwide success, Warcraft 1 and 2 were ok, but D1 is what really propelled Blizzard to where it's at today and the Diablo franchise is way bigger than the Warcraft franchise. And by the looks of it, Blizzard is turning D3 in to a D3.5 because yes A LOT has changed since release, but for me, not enough to justify another 2-3 hours installation / patching. But I'll give Blizzard credit for at least trying and still working to make D3 as great and greater as D1 and D2, so perhaps in another year or 2, D3 will be the greatest hack N' slash game on the market.

Well first off its Blizzard and second, People are still joining this game every day, I just played diablo 3 for the first time last month and just recently hit 70, Loving the game. You would be surprised how many people are just recently discovering what this game has to offer. Keep in mind when D3 launched it was the tail end of the MMO craze, I think with the lack of copycat MMO's or any new mmo releases for that matter people are craving there loot fix and getting it from this mmo "lite" so to speak.

No way. they thought a dumbed down D2 was what the masses wanted. they were wrong.

Drop rates absolutely took auction house into consideration. Not prices but the fact that it was much easier to find items in the AH made it so much harder to find in game while playing.

Ding ding,YOU WIN ..seriously it is good to see  that someone else can see the nonsense these developers are doing to slap their customers in the face.
Blizzard is so full of it self they are doing this everywhere now.,

Overwatch was not nearly good enough, not enough maps,Hearthstone never released with any multiplayer and when they release updates it is in mini stages to promote buying what is in essence only a few good cards.SO after 4-5 stages you have spent 50 bucks for maybe 5-10 good digital cards,if that is not highway robbery i don't know what is.There is a reason you can pull in 20 million/mnth from a FREE to play game, they are really good at scamming their fanbase which mo are far too loyal.Even in HOTS and same with HS and OW you are going to see them release new heroes to buy,in Hearthstone you paid for a new avatar picture lmao, and tons of people actually paid for that.

D3 is not a good game,it is a shallow SPAM fest,of course that would bring an argument as to weather SPAM combat is good,to me it 100% is not. Then if you want a better tree system POE is better than D3 and costs a heck of a lot less money than Diablo games but guess what,it is Blizzard everyone keeps supporting this crooked operation.Keep buying their unfinished games, they will gladly sell you the next expansion of ONE maybe TWO maps lmao.

Couple things...you shill unreleased games.  StarCraft 1 was the most important game to Blizzard that reached international success.  StarCraft 1 is considered one of the most important video games in history.  Warcraft series has sold more individual games that all the Diablo games.

    But keep trying.
