Playable races

I don't get it. How can a company that is so good at creating adventures and all sorts of creatures lack so incredibly in the playable races department? Such a huge lack of uniqueness in the character creation. I am tired of the same old dwarf, human, elf, halfling bs. Warforge was a nice try but why did they stop there? I am surprised they didn't add in half-orc.

I know Shadowbane is a shitty game now but they nailed it with the character creation and the many "choices" they gave you to make a toon with. CoH and CoV did a good job as well with the cosmetic parts although the only fun part about those games for me was making a new toon.

Anyway anyone else getting tired of the same elf, human, dwarf bs?

Oh yeah almost forgot. I was about to buy D&D Online but I saw the limited character racesspecies and the limited character classes. I can see how cookie cutter of a game it is by reading the box.

To be fair, DDO is the cookie from which the cookie-cutter was shaped.

But yeah, no half-elf, no shifter from Eberron, no half orcs, bit... blah.

It is pretty lame that with all the content out there for D&D systems they chose to have such a limited numer of race/class combinations.  Considering most other games that are on top of the MMO market have a wide variety of selections, it was a bad choice on their part.  Players expect a good level of character customization through both appearance and stats.  Having little to choose from just makes them sink into the background behind many other games.  Now, it would have been different had they made the game without the monthly subscription, as players can lower their standards a bit since they won't have that monthly fee.  But I think that have the game P2P was their biggest mistake.  Especially considering all the comparisons to Guild Wars and how they are similar but so different on the issue of monthly fees.
