Class Combo Names

Shroom_MageShroom_Mage Member UncommonPosts: 863

Every different class combo has its own name. So far all we know is that a Rogue/Bard is called a Dirge.

What are the other class combos? It seems like information that wouldn't be too hard for someone from Simu could provide. Also, if a Rogue/Bard is a Dirge, is a Bard/Rogue also a Dirge? Can we get one of those tenative lists? ::::01::

And... if this can't be answered, then we shall dedicate this thread to our own speculation. ::::20::

No, a bard/rogue is a Coronach. image Seriously though, I haven't heard anything about different names for class combinations. Sounds interesting. I'd ask about that, but then again I haven't had a lot of my questions answered lately (if any - and I've got a lot of them).

PS. Coronach would be an awesome name for a Bard/Rogue combination. image

If you read the Official HJ forums (at http://www.play.net/hj) You'll find quite a bit of discussionideas about the profession combo names.  Some are rather interesting.

I would, but I just can't use those forums. I'd have to trudge through pages of replies before I could find the discussion you're talking about, since they're no search function. But alas, that's a rant for another thread...

This is the part where I go into speculation mode, listing the possibilities.

    • Warrior/Ranger -
    • Warrior/Rogue - Swashbuckler
    • Warrior/Wizard - Warmage
    • Warrior/Necromancer - Death Knight
    • Warrior/Gearknight -
    • Warrior/Healer - Paladin
    • Warrior/Cleric - Templar
    • Warrior/Bard - Dervish
    • Ranger/Rogue - Hunter
    • Ranger/Wizard -
    • Ranger/Necromancer -
    • Ranger/Gearknight - ???
    • Ranger/Healer - Druid
    • Ranger/Cleric -
    • Ranger/Bard -
    • Rogue/Wizard - Illusionist
    • Rogue/Necromancer - Stalker
    • Rogue/Gearknight -
    • Rogue/Healer -
    • Rogue/Cleric -
    • Rogue/Bard - Dirge
    • Wizard/Necromancer - Warlock
    • Wizard/Gearknight -
    • Wizard/Healer - Channeller
    • Wizard/Cleric -
    • Wizard/Bard -
    • Necromancer/Gearknight -
    • Necromancer/Healer - ???
    • Necromancer/Cleric -
    • Necromancer/Bard -
    • Gearknight/Healer -
    • Gearknight/Cleric -
    • Gearknight/Bard -
    • Healer/Cleric - Priest
    • Healer/Bard -
    • Cleric/Bard -

Well, I think that's about all I can think of for now. I put question marks by the especially odd ones, and I also made the assumption that A/B is called the same thing as B/A.

We'll always know that's what it -really- is.

Even though I don't know what it is for real real. I haven't looked.

Don't forget all the reverse order ones. I believe Necromancer/Cleric will be different then Cleric/Necromancer. The whole primary and secondary class thingamabob. I'm unsure if that's what the plan is, but it makes sense to me that it would be.

    Necromancer/Bard -

or the vice-versa... one is surely to be "Dirge" :)

I actually left out the reverse order ones because while I know that there's supposed to be a difference between how each will play, I'm not convinced that they'll actually be called something different. Maybe they will, but would you want to come up with names for them all? ::::35::

I would have though so too, but in a screenshot it shows that Rogue/Bard is actually Dirge. But I agree, Bard/Necromancer would make perfect sense for Dirge. That screenshot was back when they had 12 classes though, so who knows?

    # Warrior/Healer - Paladin
    # Warrior/Cleric - Templar

This is most likely incorrect. In Gemstone IV, which is also set in the world of Elanthia and part of the HJ timeline, Paladins are a combination of a warrior and a cleric, as they can cast spiritual, clerical spells such as blessing weapons and raising the dead. Warrior/Cleric would therefore be the Paladin.

So what's Warrior/Healer? Well, if Healer is renamed to Empath (please, Simu, make Healer be like the Empaths from GSIV/DR and call them Empaths to make it fit the world of Elanthia like a glove), they'd probably be called a Warpath, which is the nickname for fighting Empaths in Gemstone. If not, then I would say something like Combat Medic.

    In short:

Warrior/Healer - Warpath or Combat Medic or something similar
    Warrior/Cleric - Paladin.

Swashbuckler would be a Rogue/Bard, not warrior.

Or at least it should be... you say R/B was a Dirge in a screenshot, maybe it will be changed by release? ::::37::

Nah, it could be Swashbuckler. If you've played the Baldur's Gate games, you could make a rogue that was a Swashbuckler, which was essentially a warrior-like rogue. Said Swashbuckler did zero singing. In addition, one of the Dictionary.com definitions of a Swashbuckler is a sword-wielding ruffian or bully, which fits the rogue and warrior combination. It does not say that a Swashbuckler is a stealthy singer.

Also, if I remember correctly, R/B wasn't Dirge. It was Skald, was it not? I'm trying to find the screenshot.

Knowing how Simu develops stuff. They'll come up with names for them all. Actually they'll probably have us spam the internal list with name suggestions. :image

Think about it. They made a character generator with 20+ sliders for making your character a unique as possible. Making names should be a piece of cake. heh

When I got there on the list, I actually sat and thought about it for a while. I initially put Warrior/Cleric as Paladin, but then though that Templar could fit in somewhere, so I moved it to Warrior/Healer instead, since Templar makes sense for part Cleric.

Warpath makes sense for Warrior/Healer, but I'm pretty sure that they won't make Healers like Empaths. I think they changed the name because it's probably so different now that calling them Empaths would be inaccurate. The Empath class was so drastically different from any other class in MMORPG's that I think very few people would play as them. Even in WoW, where Priests get nukes and damage over time, they're the least popular class. I also wouldn't be surprised if Healers could rez.

Anyway, yes, Warpath and Paladin seem more likely now that you mention it.

You know, I think it was Skald. I'm trying to think and I have no idea where I pulled Dirge from. The screenshot was on the official website. I'm look now, and they took the screenshot down. You can even see where it used to be if you watch the links of the thumbnails. It goes from "javascript:popDBScreen('63');" to "javascript:popDBScreen('61');", skipping 62. When when I try to access the screen directly, I get a 404, so they've really taken the whole thing off the site. I'll see if it's maybe on another site somewhere.

Skald does make more sense than Dirge, which means that Bard/Necromacer can make the perfect Dirge. Then again, doesn't Skald make more sense for Bard/Warrior than Bard/Rogue?

It's not that I don't think it's possible for them to come up with all those names, it's just that I think that some of the name would feel a little tacked on, like they forced themselves to come up with something else, but couldn't think of anything better, know what I mean? Like, if Bard/Necromancer is Dirge, then what could Necromancer/Bard possibly be?

The fellows from Simutronics may be a lot of things, but one thing they aren't is uncreative. example:

In Gemstone, they have about 25-30 profession names per perfession ordered in rank of "coolness" that you get as you level up that job... for instance

    Empath Rogue Sorcerer  Cleric
     Mender  Cutpurse  Transmuter  Initiate
     Pacifist  Prowler  Beguiler  Pilgrim
     Woundtender  Pickpocket  Hexer  Proselyte
     Consoler  Hoodlum  Ritualist  Crusader
     Healer  Footpad  Disruptor  Acolyte
     Sustainer  Bandit  Cabalist  Renouncer
     Botanist  Smuggler  Dissembler  Sacristan
     Caretaker  Brigand  Harrower  Missionary
     Herbalist  Thief  Incanter  Sister
     Nurse  Locksmith  Tormenter  Deacon
     Phlebotomist  Grifter  Sacrificer  Shaman
     Bloodletter  Highwayman  Deceiver  Celebrant
     Herbmaster  Filcher  Re-Animator  Intercessor
     Palliator  Stalker  Plaguebringer  Curate
     Curer  Sapper  Maledictor  Preacher
     Butcher  Thug  Enervator  Confessor
     Meliorator  Fingersmith  Soulslayer  Priest
     Apothecary  Knave  Necromancer  Priestess
     Rejuvenator  Blackguard  Doomsayer  Inquisitor
     Physician  Bounty Hunter  Torturer  Prioress
     Chirurgeon  Purloiner  Summoner  Heretic
     Scourge  Cutthroat  Apostate  Theurgist
     Solacebringer  Waylayer  Corruptor  Churchwarden
     Woundmaster  Scoundrel  Cursebringer  Abess
     Martyr  Master Locksmith  Demonmaster  Soulkeeper
Master Healer  Master Rogue  Warlock  Prelate
     Patriarch
     Matriarch

And thats only 4 professions. They are definately not dull witted in the imagination department. I was a "Soulslayer" for YEARS. Even though they each have a different names, the connotations are different for each. Even in this short list you can find names for some of your combos that would work very nice.

    Necromancer/Warrior : Soulslayer.
    Necromancer/Rogue : Corrupter.
    Necromancer/Bard : Doomsayer.
    Cleric/Necromancer : Heretic.

Sorry they're all Necromancer... I've never really been any other job.

Don't worry about names, worry about what you're going to tell your buddies in your current MMO when you cancel your account. LOL

hehehe I hope there are Fingersmiths.

If anything they can help those clumbsy warriors reattach fingers they lob off from drawing their swords.

Sounds like a Gearknight/Rogue or Rogue/Gearknight to me. Totally!!!  I think it is a Rogue/Gearknight though, more rogueish than gearish.

    Edit:  Rogue/Ranger = Hoodlum
