An MMO these days is no different than a single player game, I buy it and I play it to see and experience all I want and then I leave.
The reason it is this way is because almost every new mmo tries to be casual friendly, which means you can accomplish everything in a very short amount of time. People aren't going to stick around twiddling their thumbs.
and some are pretty good single player game (like Marvel Heroes).
I have actively played most of the big ones and tried all of them at least once and gave it a shot over the years. How else will I know I am playing the MMO for me?
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

We are well aware of all of this at this point, One the Cat Slayer. Tell us something we don't know.

I don't think anyone wants to be but we have not many options of late. Even concepts I love are not designed to keep us playing. Everything is designed with MOBA play style in mind. Quick and no depth. EQN is my last hope, if it fails I'm going back to console gaming.
I am a game hopper. Why just play MMOs? There are plenty of good games outside of MMOs, even if you use the broadened definition.
Same. I've currently parked ESO to play Fallout 4... just like I did a while back to play Witcher 3. Life's too short to have a monogamous relationship with a game.
Back in the day they just used to refer to us as gamers. It wasn't odd to play a lot of good games. Agreed that life's too short to stick with only one game.
Tourists is what they are called, vs purists which most arent these days.....but few titles are worth playing over the long haul.

MMORPGs are meant to be played for a long period of time.
nah .. they are not "meant to be anything". They are just entertainment products. Did you see the numbers? F2P MMOs .. the retention rate is only 20% after 30 days.
CLEARLY, they are not made to last (unless you think 30 days is a long time).
Nope, mmorpgs are made to be played for long period of time. There's reason people whine about end game content, because thats what keeps one playing the mmorpg for long period of time. for example world of warcraft offered good pve and pvp that had longevity so a player could easily stick to the game for long period of time. It's another question how some mmorpgs fail to deliver content that keeps the player on.
I play MMOs for endgame raiding and pvp, combined with the social aspects of the guild (been part of the same guild since 2007). With my playstyle, its not possible to be an MMO hopper, I just wouldn't be able to get the same level of enjoyment out of the game if I hopped around a lot.
Apart from betas, shortest time I've been in an MMO was 6 months and that was WAR.
I do jump around between a lot of single player games, but that is because the enjoyment is usually pretty instant and there are no consequences to game hopping.
Currently Playing: WAR RoR - Spitt rr7X Black Orc | Scrotling rr6X Squig Herder | Scabrous rr4X Shaman

I've been a notorious gamehopper for the last year. Now I've settled down on playing Wildstar, but I'm probably going to combine it with NCSoft's other title Blade&Soul when it hits the west. I usually like to play one MMO exclusively as I have a limited amount of playtime each week due to having a full-time job and several other commitments on the side.

says you? If they are made to be played for long period of time, why are some can be played as single player games? (i.e. finish content and move on).
Because they are lackluster games that do not warrant more than a spin around the parking lot. They're silly little knee slapper experiences that don't have a hope in hell of retaining players. Says me!

wait .. what is wrong with a fun spin around the parking lot? Not all games have to be long to be fun. In fact, what is wrong with fun and short, single player MMOs?

Really? You are against others liking short fun games and you want to dictate your preference on all of them?

Making an MMO is a costly and time consuming endeavor. Much more so than MOBAs or shooters. To earn a decent profit you need people to play your MMO for quite a while. Otherwise theres no point making one. Its much safer and cheaper to make tight little games like Overwatch or Hearthstone. Which is why there arent any AAA MMOs being developed by western game studios. The best we can hope for in the forseable future is getting 3-4 year old Korean MMOs and low budget Kickstarter productions.
I guess I'm NOT a MMO hopper according to the survey however MMOs now days don't engage me for several years like they used to (Asheron's Call, EQ2, LoTRO). I could play some of the older games for quite a long time and really felt part of something. Usually a good guild cemented my relationship with the game. Admittedly the end game content kept me going and I could invest my time and energy into activities like raiding.
Now days, I refuse to grind and sadly don't raid. My life is rather hectic right now so I gravitate towards more casual activities. I tend to see what I can see and explore all the content (except heroic level dungeons or raiding---don't have the time or inclination for end game content). Once I've exhausted the content, I move on. I find that I will revisit games when new goodies are added. Just finished playing WoW for the third time and now back to ESO. I most definitely feel like an MMO tourist.
There are some really interesting games out there including single player ones I would like to see. I've never played any of the Fallout games so I may give those a whirl at some point. What not see and play new stuff? I have a friend who has only played WoW and perhaps two other single player games. I've tried my hardest to introduce her to other games but have found this to be a futile endeavor. She is content to play WoW until the servers shut off. She is content doing her dailies everyday and has done this routine for 7 years! Every single day. Different strokes for different folks.
Yeah I am an mmo hoper cause I still try to experience the same excitement as I did when I played the very first mmo that got me thrilled (which was world of warcraft for me). I guess the same thing occurs for the rest of the people here regardless which one was the mmo game that got them hooked or offered the level of excitement that made you ignore everything around you
I jump from one game to the next all the time. Only MMO I play at the moment is GW2 is because of the new expansion. But I have a feeling I will be done with all the new content in another 10-15 hours. At the moment I juggle my time between GW2 HOT, SC2 expansion, Fallout 4 and Star Wars Battlefront. I rarely play one game for a long time, especially MMORPGs. I get bored with MMORPGs very quickly and almost never make it to max level. I am also playing the new Warhammer on iOS, it's a very good game.

anyone who is an MMO hopper like me check this game out www.awplanet.com and the fan forum www.AWgurus.com i know i bounce from games that are skill based like runescape more than anything and this game is very similar.

It's amazing how much spin you can apply just by the label you choose, ain't it?
