Rider: I have no idea how good or bad the or how much of the final game/concept will be released.
That said I doubt they would release anything that hadn't had lots of internal testing. To do so would be stooopid! As these things go this is way to public. If "it" crashes and burns we will know. I don't see any NDAs mentioned.
As mentioned above there will be crashes; the issue is showing progress in fixing them. And if they run the game, take it down, re-release with some commentary/patch notes and establish a cycle belief will grow. If not it will suffer.
It is funny to see the salty grapes of people who cant play the game flame it.
It will be the best sci-fi space sim mmorpg this century. If it fails it will equal another derek smart, just less smug n deceitful. This game succeeds , generations will be playing this. If it fails, the fallout will crush the entire genre also hundreds ,if not thousads, of careers.
Or something inbetween.
(Except derek smart will always suck, still owes me money)

You must have seen something nobody else has seen because so far they have nothing much to show at all. I have a VERY good feeling i know exactly what this game is going to be like and of course i could not explain all that in less than about 3 pages of text.I just know by experience and seeing what they do have to show us.
There are lots of little things that at least imo players will get bored of real fast.First of all THEIR ship and that leads to over spending on more and more ships.Secondly the Hangar, cool on a first walkthrough, interesting for rmaybe a week or to spend a couple hours a week looking at your ships but eventually it will be ho hum nobody will care.
Squadron 42,maybe it will maybe it won't be any good.Let's say it is good? How many hours of good game play?Knowing how EVERYONE speeds through content, a week maximum? Then what?
Well i'll tell you then what, you sit in the cockpit and fly around space looking for targets to shoot. Not exactly fun to me but whatever,if some people like that first person view in a cockpit ,so be it,to me it would get real boring looking at star textures out in space, but then again i know how they make a world so it really comes off as cheap to me.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Yesterday I actually considered the thought that I was wrong about star citizen, and clicked a twitch thread intended as "proof" of how star citizen worked. What I got to see was an older male with a huge selection of ships meaning that he had spent quite a lot of money on this project. I got to watch him get frustrated about playing something that kept lagging and kept crashing. I came back an hour later, and it felt like his voice got into falsetto when the game crashed another time.
This idea that we shouldn't criticize alpha/beta is silly when companies market the shit out of those products. Last few days they had a lengthy show promoting the game, they made sure sites would talk about how much content v2.0 added, at citizen con they showed how it looked, and it was all about selling a product to customers. Problem is that right now their v2.0 isn't actually working and when we had all that marketing people has to be allowed to speak against it.
If you are allowed to say something is good others must be allowed to say something is bad. If we get to criticize Bobby Kotick for ruining gaming with his microtransactions we can't accept Chris Roberts as a savior for pc gaming when he sells in-game products for larger sums of money.
Iselin: And the next person who says "but it's a business, they need to make money" can just go fuck yourself.
The fact is ships are being sold for tons of cash that i) have no guarantee will ever be in any game (since the game isn't anywhere near finished) ii) are not playable in the current modules (what amounts to tech demos).
People have every right to ask questions without being labelled as trolls. There's a lot going on that looks suspicious and has never been addressed, simply just dismissed as rantings of Derek Smart -- most of the people say that they will not acknowledge anything he says, no matter what it is, which is bizarre in an extreme cult way.
Hey I bet if we can all donate another twenty million the game might move past a tech de....Haha who am I kidding. I can't believe the hype into this game with basically nothing to show.
Suggestion: instead of posting "This game sucks, it has bugs in it and crashes !" you could (voluntarily) test the Alpha and file some detailed bug reports, like a thousand other backer-playtesters. So next time THAT particular bug is gone and THAT particular reason for crashing has been patched out of the Alpha version of the game. And - you know - you might even help make the game better .... maybe even as good as you demand it to be.
If you are not interested in that - why do you not simply wait for the completed game and judge it then ? Others will have done that improvement work for you - volunteers and CIG team together.
Hard to bug a game that crashes no matter what you do. I loved that one old dude who said he only got to play at the most 15 minutes. He was not a happy camper.
I would like to think it will be - just because I don't want to see the backers get screwed.
That said, maybe this is the disaster we need to have?
Really, the whole crowdfunding idea was fantastic - but it got hijacked by commercial interests for multi million dollar projects which wasn't the idea.
If it does fall apart - a few people need to go to jail. Kickstarter people included. It's not because I am being mean or dislike anyone in particular. It's just to remind everyone that when you take people's money you do have an obligation to deliver.
Sure, projects and companies fail all the time. But shareholders and investors are adults who should understand the risks. Crowdfunders include kids and people who aren't well informed. That needs to stop.
SC looks (to an uniformed outsider) like a case study in project creep.
I could be 100% wrong... but my Spidy Sense says "Whew... lucky you didn't put down any cash on that one!"
Early backer here. I'd almost forgotten about the game - considering how long it's been in development. IMO, this one should have been released by now. I'll probably care even less about it if it releases in 2018.

At least someone gets it. I felt the same way and just as grateful that I didn't put any cash down on it. I do understand how people can be taken in by what Roberts said he wants to make. IMHO there is just no way he can do what he wants. If developers do make this game they will be GODS in this industry. People have stated (that are in the know) the Alpha 2.0 release is not 64 bit but 32 x 2. What ever that means (darn it Jim am a gamer not a developer)!

No idea if Roberts can accomplish this game either, but I'd rather wait and see if it can be done rather than wishing it stillborn. And as to the devs being gods of the industry if they pull this off ... seeing how much games have actually regressed in complexity with the exception of graphics in the past few years, in my not so humble opinion the reason many feel the scope of this game can't be done is due to too many developers taking the easy route in game development, and too many gamers happy to accept the same old shit time and again, rather than because the technology isn't there. I would love to see a resurgence of game companies pushing the envelope rather than just eating their old game, digesting it, and then just shitting in a box and claiming this is something entirely new. Case in point Fallout 4, a competent and fun game, but nothing we haven't seen before.
Exactly what it will take, pushing the envelope is what we need. VR could be the next step and change how we play games. Flying a ship in a space sim like Star Wars would really be awesome at least to me. Or a game with VR like SWG, I would die for that. Granted SC could be an awesome game with VR but what CR states and changed and redesigned just does not seem possible. With all the alpha's and beta's I have been in personally I see SC needing at the least another 150 million to even get just SC to a finished product that can be taken as a real game. Even then after everything I have read even more if they do go complete 64 bit.
Right now like I said this Alpha 2.0 has been said is not a 64 bit mod. But what do I know am only a gamer.
Hopefully it won't take a super computer to run all that when they put it together. Hopefully they will also start thinking about combating bots and gold sellers, devs know it's coming yet it always takes them by surprise.

Just fyi this is not the fps module. The fps module release was canceled / rolled into the 2.0 release. This is the Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 module release aka Arena Commander + FPS + Start of the Large World support. It has space combat + walking around ships + some quests / missions to do + grouping. It's not just the FPS module release and thats why it was named Star Citizen Alpha 2.0
Mostly correct, but Star Marine (TMFKA the test module formerly known as FPS module) is not cancelled.
Star Marine (the simpod game) is just instanced FPS with leaderboards, modes, etc. anyway.
Alpha 2.0 has the FPS update, but they put the shooter mechanics all right into the open world. The instanced leaderboard battles (Star Marine) are coming afterwards. When it´s given out to backers, you´ll find Star Marine in the simpod device or menu that has the Arena Commander simulation game.
So again: Arena Commander+Star Marine: Simulated games withtin the game, i.e. training modes In Lore: Games for the future space man made by "Original Systems"
Alpha 2.0 (Persistent universe) = the real game world (the first part of it)
for some reason i had it in my head this was gona be an mmo. like, open world mmo. was thinking eve size. at least, thats what they made it sound like when they first started talking about this game
