Square Enix graciously offered us a chance to play Just Cause 3 ahead of its launch via Steam, citing that it’s very much an open world RPG set in a modern setting. Now, we won’t go so far to call it an RPG in a traditional sense, but there’s so much fun to be had in this game that we can forgive its linear story and lunatic physics. It’s a toy box of wonders for any kid who imagined blowing stuff up with his or her GI Joes for hours on end.

I loved the first Just Cause, hated the second. Hoping three's a charm!

There is a lot of good and bad,a lot looks cool really nice but a lot looks like silly game play.I guess you can say i am a serious games,i like my game to always be serious.IDK if i could play this,it is not too bad i guess

Remember Angry Joe used to give us his heart felt passion reviews of games??Well this is him now selling out for money and advertising...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvC4jwAbqkI

This guy seems to try VERY hard to avoid the question of how long is the story mode in the game.

Looks like good fun, but it's basically Far Cry 3 or 4 in third person perspective with a grapple thrown in. I'll probably pick it up eventually, but not until it's on sale.

Edit: Definitely waiting. Steam reviews are indicating a lot of technical problems, frame rate issues, and such. Several even compare it to Arkham Knight's PC release, ouch! A shame, because they did a wonderful job with the PC version of Mad Max.

"Square Enix sent us some free copies of JC3 so now we are obligated to say nice things about it and we hope we will get some ad money when it releases."

    Gotcha.

How can they comment on it unless they get a copy - isn't that how the industry works in any case?

Far Cry 4 had an awesome story as far as I'm concerned. Really enjoyed the hell out of that game.

Hopefully it is a lot like it.

I only played Just Cause 1, but I liked the grapple effect. Didn't remember it having any kind of memerable story or characters, unlike farcry 4.

The story in this is pretty "meh". Just your usual "hero saves country from tyrant" kind of deal. There are some memorably characters, like Di Ravello himself, but it's not The Last of Us. It's far less survival based than the Far Cry series. Much more arcadey and over the top.

This game is very boring, don't buy this before watching some reviews.

No Word on the technical problems this game seems to have?

Doesn't seem like the game I'd like to invest my time in. If you have to choose 1-2 games to play, you don't choose games of this kind, I believe

I honestly haven't had any, other than the aforementioned default resolution and no borderless window option. It's been rock solid across two different setups.

Game is really bad on console, the reviewers were talking about really long load times.  Did not think much of JC2, so will give this game a pass too, just don't think this studio has a clue any more.

this game is a blast. Action movie cliche and jokes everywhere. This is for light hearted fun. Like the old just cause 2 amped up, or the old mercenaries games. Tons of people loved those games and they will like this one too.

Been playing on steam and everything has been rock solid with short load times.

Yeah, I know it is folly to expect anything resembling journalistic ethics at this site or in this industry.

The press for other industries is held to actual standards.

    My mistake for being confused.

This series has always been pretty fun, JC3 is just another edition to that. An over-the-top action run and gun game where you can technically do "anything".

Is it worth a full box price? Yes and No, depends on what type of gamer you are and what you're expecting from Just Cause. For most people who enjoyed JC2, you'll enjoy JC3. For people on the fence on spending the money on a game they haven't played prior, GMG/Steam Sale if you want to pull the trigger at a lower price.

Note I said other industries, and not the general press.

If you tried to do half the stuff this site and others like it do in the financial press, you'd be sued and/or prosecuted into the ground in a week.

Conflict of interest is not a complete joke every where as it is in the video game press.

But most game sites and most readers of such sites are not savvy enough to know that.

Picked this up yesterday on PS4, besides the long load times when you first start, it's an awesome game. Tons of fun, tons of stuff to do(blow up) lots of challenges unlock as you progress, map is huge, it's a nice break from the seriousness of Fallout 4, which I still love but every now and then I need a break and JC3 is the perfect outlet. So many good games have come out in the last 3 months.

Well Avalanche Studios is not exactly a household name. However they are the team making FFXV and made the recent MadMAx. I think Mad MAx was simply a cash  grab off the movie,i mean how long did they actually spend on that game, can't be too long.

None the less FFXV looks like a big improvement from this team, that is assuming no bugs. The other issue is that no PC for FFXV even after doing PC for JC3 which completely baffles me,so i am assuming they want common platforms setups to design for to try and eliminate bugs and other problems that would arise on PC being so many different PC setups. It would make sense if they are having so many issues with JC3 ,let's take the easy way out and eliminate the PC.

no offense but this is how i read the article at first: "Not So MMO: Just Cause 3 Isn't an RPG, But You Should Still Play It because Square Enix graciously offered us a chance to play Just Cause 3" i don't believe you are obligated to say nice things about them though. SE doesn't care since it's not their main IP so as long as the name is mentioned it's enough.

    my top MMOs: UO,DAOC,WoW,GW2

most of my posts are just my opinions they are not facts,it is the same for you too.

Is there any article this site won't write for money? Or are they just trying to instantly hop on AAA game bandwagons to drum up clicks? Just Cause 3 has got to be one of the worst games of the year relative to it's popularity and even a cursory investigation into the game would reveal that. This website is a joke. You should really put "advertisement" labels on articles like this because that's all it is.

You can't be serious, the kids stopped playing it because it was one bug after another.  And yeah the initial load times ARE horrible.  Maybe after a few patches it will be better, but right now I would not recommend the game to anyone.  Read some of the reviews, they all complained of the plethora of bugs.
