Over the Thanksgiving weekend, I posed a simple question to the Wizard101 community. I asked, “Hey wizards, what are you thankful for?” The question gathered mixed results, but I did notice one constant. Almost all of the responses had “community” somewhere within them. Community is an important aspect in any online game, especially MMOs … but what exactly makes the Wizard101 community so special? Why do so many players feel so connected to it?

One of the greatest community memories was one of our own Tom Purdue aka The Friendly Necromancer becoming community manager for Wizard101. It was one of those moments where lots of people were inspired because a normal Joe Blogger like us went on to work for the company for a game and community we all supported and loved. It's almost like we all "Got the job". It was a victory for everyone. On a more personal level (and memory) Wizard101 is the game I met the woman I've been with for 5 years now (6 years in April 2016) and we met at a community held event that was helping players gear up for the end game which was Dragonspyre. Additionally, as a former Fansite Owner I've always been blessed with a supportive group of team mates who never let me down and always made sure we delivered the best we could for OUR community. Of course we had the support of the community itself with their own submissions, donations, hard work, and just being a family to us all. That's what we are --- a family. One for all and all for one.

There was one person that really made the Kingsisle family feel connected to the twizard community ... His name was Gary Smith ... He has stopped posting now and the Wizard101 twitter started answering for him ......

I love the KI community. They are indeed my second family. I am basically homebound now yet I can still reach out to others and make a positive difference in their lives through this great community, message boards, Twitter and Facebook. Tom and Leala and #JuliaFromKI are doing a great job and I greatly look forward to the KI live stream each month. You can really tell that KI values it's players and even though some pulling back has been done, the reasons are probably for things that we do not yet understand or the ones we DO understand, like excessive trolling, I KNOW they are there for us and care just as much. My gaming community mean a lot to me and they always will. This gaming company is like no other and I love it. *Chrissy Hugs to all*

Between more social media activity/interaction, a microtransaction system option instead of JUST membership only, unique turn based combat, strategy building (Especially after Wizard101's Polaris update), and the hyper realistic and at times rowdy fanbase... Wizard101 is very inviting to those who are wanting to try more advanced games down the road like World of Warcraft by teaching them some of the basics of how MMOs, RPGS, etc. work. It also brings a sense of accomplishment by being around for certain events and things that usually do not return. The games often overpowered item system was also seen as a reason for why many Wizards play the game... The PvP community is also so interesting because of how deep and determined these players are to succeed... If you play a MMORPG, you typically get "willy-nilly" players who arent swayed either way on how the game works and more driven to use alternatives to achieve victory, however in this game they throw that path out the door and force you to think on your toes and make strategies that can affect the outcome of your gaming experience. It truly shines as a kids game, a teen game, a young adult game and an adult game.

while there are some trolls who play every game, wizard 101 makes it easy to block them.

the addition of the team up kiosk makes it easy to find teammates for the difficult or long fights. I really enjoy helping so I spend a part of most days in game at the team up. all the fan sites for wizard 101 also add to the helping each other feeling. there are sites with help for everything from gear to gardening and boss fights to hatching. they even have a thing called true friend code so if you have multiple wizards (up to six per account) you can find your favorite team mates more easily.

the ability to either buy membership or buy zones also means everyone can play together.

I have really enjoyed the community of wizards in wizard 101.

Don't forget that there is a large wizard101/pirate101 community on Instagram. I accidentally became a member there over 2 years ago and have asked and helped many other wizards which gave me much pleasure. Most of them are not allowed to use or find Twitter difficult to cumbersome to work out and follow (just like me! ;) so I try my best to pass on contest, events and other useful information to those kids via my ever growing wiztagram account. My wish is that one day, Kingsisle will fully recognise Instagram as a worthwhile social media platform to reach many more of its players/fans. Keep up the good work! Merry Christmas from your wizard in Oz
