6 core intel build possible for less than 1k us$?

Would love to build a pc with the i7-5820k 6 core, but will it be much more future-proof than say a i7-4790k? I know i'll need an x99 mb and ddr4 memory(which actually aren't as pricey as ppl moan about).

Edit, Btw if/when I build it, I already have a HHD, keyboard, mouse, monitor and Win 7 OS, so that will cut the cost somewhat.

    If u get the cpu+motherboard at microcenter, u can get a 1k build with a 970 easy

Unfortunately, there's no microcenters even remotely close to me, but I'm going to be patient with this build and grab it when the cpu is closer to 300$ Everything else in the build looks good tho. I was looking at that Avexir ram earlier and love it! Wish they had red led on them tho.

Just get a server board and 2 used xenon processors for an 8 core build. Saw it on linus tech tips, he managed to get an 8 core mobo and 2 xenon processors for 150$. Spend a bit more and get the 3.4ghz xenons used and it may run you 200-250$ with 2 processors and a mobo.

Kills the upgradability obviously, but it performs just as well as a fancy i7 can with a decent gfx card.

When i was searching the internet about having this pc built i have now you don't need that many cores for gaming, you would be alright with an i7 6700k  and to invest in a good graphics card, games use more GPU than CPU.

That sucks :( unfortunately at newegg the cpu is $390 and the motherboard is $170, that's $60 more making it total $1080. There are some 970 on discount on newegg atm though, an Asus Strix for $300, so that would put the total at around $1060 if u would buy it before the end of week, which is only $60 over 1k :)

I forgot to mention, I'm a multiboxer, usually 5-6 accounts and I like the idea of each game instance getting its own core. Also, looking at i7-6700 prices atm, I would pay more for that than the 6 core 5820k.

Happen to have a link to that? I've scanned a few pages of his videos and haven't spotted it.

With that in mind, yeah keep the 6 core. You'll want at LEAST 16GB of RAM. I recommend 24GB to ensure the extra wiggle room, you know in case you want 50 Chrome tabs open whilst doing whatever.

That's pretty bad advice for a few of reasons, one 6700k is $30 more expensive than 5820k and way less future proof (dx12 supports 6 cores properly and vulcan up to 8), two it is still out of stock, three bying the cheapest motherboard for the 6700k doesn't actually give u enough leftover money for a 980 for instance.

There's no more corners to cut for $1000 5820k+970, the only other option would be to go for the amd 380x

Yes, it's possible to make such a build.  Of course it's possible.  But why would you?  I can't think of a good reason to go for a 6-core Intel CPU on a $1000 budget that doesn't start with not needing much graphics performance.

If you're building a gaming rig on a $2000 budget, then maybe you think about Haswell-E.  Maybe.  But $1000?  Not for a gaming rig.

Not exactly, multiboxing is the prime example, 6-core always better than a fast graphic card, and 16GB ram is the bare minumum.

better than GTX 970 and 280$ after rebate. That shaves off 40$ off the build and you get better GPU.

next in the line is R9 380x. Which would fit 1000$ as its 230$ which shaves another 50$, so total -90$

Also you can shave 10-20$ off CPU cooler.
