So ummm.... What's the deal with EQ2?

So it's been a long while since I've gone back to EQ2, decided I wanted to play again, just to see if I could rekindle some good memories. When I came across this...

No, no eye trickery. If you walk through, you fall and get teleported... What's been going on?

EDIT to add: This isn't all either. Where my PC before could handle EQ2 without hardly any glitches or lags. My current PC, which is twice as powerful, now is experiencing heavy lag and rubber-banding, for no reason whatsoever. This is even on "balanced" settings. Which is odd, because I can play FF14 on higher settings, and don't experience these issues.

EQ2 was designed with the idea that processor speeds would keep doubling at the previous rate.  They didn't. So the game is very processor bound.

Again, what's going on???? I'm sure those were meant to be actual assets, and not simply white/translucant squares

I have no idea what's happening here. But I can tell you that one of the reasons I stopped playing Anarchy Online several years ago. Back before you could access the new beta engine. The old engine was written for MS DX 7. Well, that's great, but when I went and bought a replacement video card, support for DX 7 was considered legacy. Ironic huh? The software was too old, my hardware couldn't support the game. My relatively new (at the time) GPU could not properly render the video.

that happened to me once, hasn't happened since though.

They have treated the game so badly that the game is revolting against the developers. It has become...self-aware...

Hardware incompatibility somewhere. You'd be surprised what certain combo's of different hardware pieces does to game performance sometimes.

Maybe that's why I can't play FFXIV as much I want to. I don't have problems with any other games, but FFXIV started lagging and disconnecting on my after two weeks of problem-free play. I have no idea why. I could have been an update somewhere, maybe.

What GPU and driver are you using?

It has lots of graphical glitches for me too. Never put every setting up to max as it wasn't designed to be like that. Put it on medium and that should help with some of the performance issues. Also modern day graphics cards have major issues with EQ2 with my one example of nvidia geforce 849 (850) such as assets and even parts of the world failing to load and also arriving in a non existant zone. Always fun.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

I had those problems before not since the new TL servers but i do remember it well.

I also had constant .ini files problems as well and support had me trying everything from deleting files over and over to even try reinstalling game.I did eventually get the problem to disappear but not sure if i remember.I think it may have had to do with a virus that corrupted some files and had Windows reinstalled then everything went away.

Just because you have no problems in other games does not mean it is not on your side of things.SOE coded all their games in a rush and just all around terrible coding,so you add their crap with yours and you get problems.

I feel there are just tons of bad code within their game and so much so that they were never interested in fixing in,especially given they have been in money troubles for quite some time.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

    1. Ruberbanding has nothing to do with PC specs. Either the servers are lagging or you are ( internet related )

    2. Make sure GPU shadows are turned on.

    3. Stop playing EQ2.

I've never seen any of that happen in my times of playing EQ2. That looks really weird.
