Albion Online Getting Started Fast

Getting started fast video

First I have to thank the Albion team for reaching out and allowing me in. This will be a guide slash review for Albion Online. AO is a simple game, but coming into it you feel a little lost and grindy. It's not as bad as it would seem. You just need a little direction on what to focus on.

On the bottom of the screen the destiny board is your guide. You can choose to do everything solely for the board. Or you can do your own thing at your own pace. In order to progress to better gear you will need to work on your board.

Remember you can make everything on your own with farming. Just figure out what you need and go farm it. Nothing is beyond your reach or understanding. You can also gain silver fast by farming dungeons. Kill the last boss in the dungeon and he drops substantial amount of silver. The longer the boss has been alive the more silver he drops.

The way the game works is pretty much in this flow.

Farm

Craft

Adventure

Dungeon/Pvp

You can do that in any order you like. But your best interests would lie in doing it that way. Being that this game is multi-platformed is also a plus. I can see myself cellphone playing the game. While waiting in a office some where. All I want is a little more PVE action like Diablo. And we might have something sandbox to play in.

    1. Farm
    2. Craft
    3. Adventure
    4. Dungeon/Pvp
    5. Die ONCE, go back to 1.

PS. Those items you payed real money for..Yes, they drop too if you die.

Also, If you plan on soloing in this game...Might as well get your money back. This is a Forced Group/Guild game. You'll see.

Nice concept, bad execution. Good Luck. :)

Ignorance is bliss? When you die you don't go back to 1, you may or may not lose your stuff depending on where you are, but it's only the stuff you have on you at the time. Instead of wasting your time in here complaining, go find a game you like and leave the rest alone.

Well everyone is entitled to a opinion. In MMO's part of the genre name is Multi so you would expect. That you need some kind of help to play. If you want to be solo forever just play a standard rpg or console game.

i played alpha.  and when you died, you started over leveling completely from the beginning basically.  when did this change?

Those who have played Ultima Online know better than to ever be sent back to "the start" as a whole.  You should bring the bare essentials when going out, as well as having a half dozen back ups of your items.  If they implemented the game correctly, then crafting items should be trivial and dying a dozen or so times and losing everything should mean nothing if you're prepared.

Never brag about any special item you may have acquired; don't wear said special items (if it's observable) when not in a large group, don't carry around all your money, keep all your spares in the bank or house.  Bring a small amount of bandages, a couple potions, an antidote or two and that's it.  More oft than not going out should be a net gain if you're with friends, or even traveling your own to gather if you're smart about it.

Games like this are all about survival and being smart rather than just trying to brag and show off and be careless.  If you do that, then you're going to find yourself starting all over again as people will just camp you until the cows come home and take all of your best stuff.

Heck, I had massive amounts of valorite equipment back in UO and knew all of the mining locations for the stuff.  Could make a million a day easy selling a set.  Gave the best armor and defenses, yes, but it made your armor look blue.  Which made you a target.  So large armies and players wore plain Iron for most things so no one had a reason to risk fighting you.  Though as a whole, back then there wasn't too much of a zerg mentality.  But I guess that's because I had holdings where I typically hanged out and did my work.

If this is a game of non-stop ganking without punishment, then it's surely requiring you to join a large party most of the time.  It will form its own way of doing things as a whole that can't be fathomed in early alpha testing or even for weeks or months after its actual release due to how different systems will be handled by the playerbase.

All that said, I'll probably not play myself.  No time for all of this.  Spent most of my time crafting and selling thousands of outfits back in Ultima so I didn't have to worry about anything and made a lot of friends with a few factions / guilds due to my free repairs and armor sets.

Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

    @Silentstorn,

Very solid write-up, I had a feeling that the solo dungeons were a great place to make silver.
Hopefully open-beta gets here soonish, so I can jump in myself, as I love crafting, and not being locked into one class. Plus add to that all items that can be sold on the AH, man my toon will be super rich, hehe.

The problem is UO had consequences which cut down on the ganking/griefing. If that does not exist in this game it will be a free for all gankfest. What made UO great were those handful of skilled murderers that you had to constantly be on the lookout for. But as in real-life, most people were just going about their business. Today's MMO players think pvp is go out and kill on sight everyone you see.

    Not another Full Loot MMO.
    I ll pass this one.

Why no one makes PvE Sandboxes? I don't get it.
Maybe with some limited PvP to add some spice, but mainly PvE.
Where does it say that every Sandbox has to have PvP?
Isn't it obvious that they are not very appealing?
I can't think of any Sanbox PvP apart from EvE that actually pulled any noticeable numbers.
Why developers insist with this formula?

There are a plethora of MMOs that cater to solo players, no need to play standard RPGs or console when there are so many solo centric MMOs.

Well I wasn't trying to say they should. I was just saying guys shouldn't be anti social in a MMO. It kind of defeats the purpose lol..

So many scared lil sheep. They hate it when a game isn't made exactly for them and come to tell us that they will pass on it.... but mainly to let us know they are scared and will pass on it.

Game is pretty good so far. not hard to make money or replace items.

How many delicate flowers have you met in Counterstrike?

I got a case of beer and a chainsaw waiting for me at home after work.
