To paraphrase a poster on the official forums this thing is not going to go from Doom 1 to Doom 3 as far as quality and polish is concerned with anything less than a few more years of work and some new Developers.

And I agree with the other poster: No reason given, just that its great! pfft! If you do read their forums, very valid concerns with just about every important aspect are voiced, yet those threads are buried deep in flaming, off topic comments , locked and hidden away by the moderators. LOL What gets me too is the very same ones that claim DNL is the best, while trying to play the "prelude" tell you that SOG is nothing like DNL will be. .... so...ummm...how do they even know how DNL will be? With SOG as its "prelude", you would think they would get the picture. LOL Incredible.Truly incredible.
The person who posted that on DnL forum said that his/hers PC config is not the best... but... as far as I know, nvidia 9800 is THE top of the line vid card at the moment. THere are 2 variations, GTX is the more expencive one (going out for 600 canadian $) and GT is a cheaper verson going for around 400-500 canadian $. So just that comment kinda made me doubt the whole post.

You don't read very well do you....the person said they had a 6800 - which is not the 7800 the top series card of nvidia. The only 9800 card is the Radeon by ATI.
And the top of the line nvidia 7800 GTX pci express runs you around 460$ USD.
Mind you the next generation cards are going to be in stores really soon - so the 7800 is already becoming yesterdays news.
Keep current on hardware when you want to make comments about doubting peoples posts.
Aside from taht DnL right now is complete crap. Many players w/ accounts can't even get in the game right now due to they character files being borked on both server and client side. Plus I for one have had my account logged in for 7 days according to the game every time I try and log in. The games tech support is taking their sweet ass time to do anything about it.
I wont even bother w/ speed hacks working like a charm in game, causing players to crash by using certain class skills on them. This isn't a game, it's a virtual landscape w/ no dungeons or anything in the world to make it look like it has more than just green hills w/ evenly spaced trees all around. Sure it's 15x bigger than SWG - but every inch of the game play area looks identical to everywhere else in the game world.
The combat system in this game isn't a system, it's a place holder for when they get around to actually designing a combat system. They might as well just rent everyone a dragon for a couple hours so people can fly through it like they were visiting the Sproose Goose. Get in, get out - next game please...

You are right. I stand corrected twice - the person did mention a NVIDIA 6800, and there is no 9800, at least not an NVIDIA line card. A 6800 is not top of the line, but rather 2nd best line of card. Dunno how i missed that info, and i have no idea where the 9800 came from... the only excuse i may have is i was typing that from work and someone distracted me.

It was an obvious typo, I don;t think anyone didn't undertsand what you meant when you put 9800. Grumpy was just being, well grumpy.
The 6800 is cutting edge, there is a newer generation (7800) but the benchmarks aren't too significant between the two.
Any game produced for todays audience should run fine on a card with much less power. I currently play wow on a 9800pro with all the settings maxed, and it runs smooth as can be. I get a little video lag on a 9200 in populated areas, but a 5500 still runs it fine.
Yes, I was being grumpy. I shouldn't have stood on a pedistool while commenting. I happen to be one of the lucky players who's game save on the server is so messed up that the devs are trying to figure out how it got taht way and how to fix it. It's been a week. Meanwhile the server was left up from it's weekly downtime so everyone else could play.... I'm hella grumpy right now.
The benchmarks are significant when you push the card to its limits. Try a game like FEAR on a maximum settings in 1600x1200, on a high end computer with 7800 it will run well, on the same computer with a 6800 it will run like crap. Id say the 7800 i a good investment. If youre going for 256mb then get the GT because theres not much difference between 256mb GT and GTX. 512mb 7800GTX beats anything on the market with ease though.
