just reactivated, newb question

in Dark Age of Camelot

I just reactivated my account after about a year.  I can't remember...is there a convenient way for me to sell things to other players, or do I have to just broadcast in towns?  I do remember that going on before.  I read about merchants in houses, but it would be a really long time before I can afford a house.  Soo...are there auction houses, or consignment merchants, or anything of that sort?

    Yes - Mythic introduced Merchants with the Housing-Expansion. If you own a house you can place a vendor outside (for full details you might want to check out the ingame FAQ).

    No, there are no auction houses. The only way for you to sell goods is either directly or on a consignment merchant you put up at your house.

    BTW, what types of goods are you trying to sell? Are you having any luck selling them in broadcast? I am just wondering what you are trying to sell that you cannot afford a house and CM. That's 2.3plat for all of that. While not pocket change, it is certainly something you will have between levels 40-50.

    Well I'm level 7.  I highly doubt I'll ever see 40-50, I don't have time to play very often.  I looted a nice magic circlet off a mob, with plus to spirit magic or some such thing.  Seemed like a player around my level that's a caster might want to buy it.  I've seen about 4 people in my life in the town, so I don't think broadcasting will have much use.  Oh well, too bad.  Thanks for the info.

    Not sure what you mean by a auction house but if you put your items on a personal vendor at your house (and at level 7 you won't be able to afford one) they will show up on the search function at the entrance to the housing zone.  So anyone who enters the housing zone and searches for items will have a chance of finding yours.  That's how I shop all the time.  Keeps prices relatively sane as well.

    I am not sure if this will make you feel better or worse, but if you cannot use it no one will want it. Those playing around you level won't be there long, maybe 30 minutes at most. The item will only be useful for maybe 2 hours of gametime before it becomes grey. Further, those who are around level 7 will often be twinked. If not then they will have found as good or better gear from a random mob, quest, or got aurulite gear.

    It is a nice thought, and say 4 years ago you would have been right. But magical items have become so common, even at the low levels, that the desirability of those items is not what it used to be. Only the highest level gear with uberpowers do most people care about.

    That is not to say you cannot make some money by selling low level gear. You can, but not level 7. Between 20-40 many people need gear. They will search housing. I probably pay a months worth of rent on my house in a week because of the low level items I put up there levels 25-35 usually.

    If you are not seeing anyone you are either playing at the wrong times, or not going to the capital. If you are in the normal servers the capitals are shared with 4-5 other servers so they are packed. If you are on the Classic servers then you should see people around.

    If you haven't gone there yet, go to the Catacombs zones. Much better XP, gear, and most likely you will see more people there around you level.
