so.............. No AAA MMOs coming in 2016 , perfect we have finally come full circle , now maybe some small studios can get back to making some true MMORPGs instead of the garbage the AAA studios been feeding us for 10 years ..

Not sure if it meets your definition of AAA, but City of Titans is a possibility. It's a spiritual successor to City of Heroes, which was a AAA game.
It's another small budget kickstarter game so no it's not considered AAA. It also won't release in 2016, heck i'd be surprised if it released by 2020 seeing as all they seem to have done after all this time is mess around with tech demos for the engine.

Was making a list of 2016 AAA MMOs and even those considered in the ballpark. I came up with the below, not in order of release.  This is really to determine how much RAM, CPU, and GPU will we need for 1080p the next wave of MMOs in 2016.  I'm guessing for Ultra, we are going to need 8+ (16 even?) ram and i5s or i7's, but the toughest factor to know is the Graphics card.  Well let me know if I left anything out for 2016?  (i'm really trying to figure out what will hit in 2016 and hope my future R9 390 can take it)  My biggest worries are CU, BDO, and Chronicles.  B&S was made four years ago so a PC from 4 years ago can handle it on highest settings.

Probably in 2017-2018 Ultra HD/4K might come into play more but who knows.  Who knows what kind of rig we will need for these upcoming games...(i'm worried i won't get the ultra highest settings euphoria i had with GW2 ever again)

Keep in mind the below list is a guess/estimate just trying to get a field of vision for 2016 for the games that will require a decent rig for ultra (there may be F2P less demanding games coming out by the bunches i'm sure)

anyone got a crystal ball and can predict whether an R9 390, 8 gigs of Ram, and a i7-4770 can handle ultra for the batch of 2016 games? speculate away!

    2016
    B&S
    Black Desert Online
    Pathfinder Online
    Chronicles of Elyria
Camelot Unchained (fingers crossed Q4 2016)

    Left off the list:
(Crowfall I've read is going live probably 2017?)
(Star Citizen - I'll believe it when I see it)
    EQN (who knows?)
Elyria is even further behind than Revival not sure where you are getting 2016 from

Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!

Blade and Soul, Black desert Online, and if we are lucky a western release of Dragon's Dogma online = three AAA mmos in 2016, plus possibly one or two promising Indie titles. Sounds pretty good to me.

Lol, yeah, now we will be fed garbage by dozens of low-budget, partially completed, early access indie games instead !

It is progress in a way I suppose, the garbage is now somewhat cheaper than before at least...

Lineage Eternal. If you like MMOs and Diablo-style hack-n-slash, it looks perfect.

I think AAA games and MMOs will be taking a pause to re-structure business actually.

I say that because over the past 1-2 years I have been watching sales on Steam and its extreemly common for a new indie release to outsell a new AAA release. AAA companies are smart enough to pay attention to this and perhaps change but they cant change over night

Dragon's Dogma was very interesting, the demo anyway back on I think it was my X360. I haven't looked into the new MMO, is there even a chance of it coming to the west?

ironically its substantially better and sales figures seem to back it up. Its really a reflection of how terrible AAA games have been when they controlled the market. I think they will get better now that the boom of indie is painfully obvious

4k video is the big selling point for the future?  Once again, were are chasing the same old things:  graphics.

How about saying stop chasing that and focus on improved game mechanics?  How about experimental systems?  As long as the bleeding edge is graphics, the bleed edge of game play mechanics will be behind that.
It will be a long time till 4k really matters.

Most of the games on that list are not triple A games. Looks like I will be going back to console gaming lol

Indies are great for single player games. I doubt they can raise enough money to build MMORPGs properly. Of course, the kind of lobby based instanced MMOs are possible (e.g. Star Conflict).

    you might be right.

That said pretty much every understanding of the physics of reality I have ever had has been smashed by indies the past few years. What they have been able to do with a fraction of the team and fraction of the money is mind blowing to be frank.

    Just so you know.

I have been gaming at 2k since 2008.

I think you might be missing out on what is going on in gaming outside of the AAA cool aid

...WOW.   I just saw the below vid comparison between Lost Ark and Lineage Eternal.  Thanks guys for recommending them.  I'm super glad i made this thread.  I'm actually more excited about these two games than any of the others almost:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4HiqGTcMkE

I think my happy list of games for 2016 in ranking is:

    1.  Camelot Unchained
    2.  Tie between Lost Ark and Lineage Eternal
    3.  Black Desert Online in a far third place

Can EQN even be considered AAA at this point?

Hell, in terms of budget EQ2 was barely AAA.  And DBG now is nothing like SoE was then in terms of resources.

This game sounds interesting, but it doesn't appear to be in a finished state yet.

    ARK: Survival Evolved

It is not. If you look at the great indie games (like Gone Home, or Victor Vran, ...) you can tell that they are very focused, do a few things well, and have a very limited scope.

Pretty much every single one of my indie titles has more features in it then any other AAA game I have ever played or ever heard about.

I can provide a list on request of my claim

For some reason seems there is a huge crop of PVP focused ones heading our way for 2016 and beyond.

BDO and Blade and Soul both look to be the time waster's for the first half of the year anyway... And neither are gonna be earth shattering.

As for the rest on the list who knows. CU looks good but not sure it's gonna be 2016..
