I'll wait a year or so and see how the VR market develops.

Besides, if the market booms, VR tech will be substantially cheaper in 12 months' time, and most likely be a lot more refined.

Let me know how you do with the eye strain, retinal detachment, the factual documented led blue light cornea damage, neck and spinal issues, migraines, and brain tumors, brain shutdown, and of course cyber sickness. I mean they know its so unsafe it ships with a huge medical disclaimer that basically you are shooting yourself in the head but that is your choice to commit suicide and they have no liability.

This is going to be pretty much useless just like a 4k TV with no 4k programming yet. I'm still on the fence as to if this VR thing will actually go anywhere or just be another gimmick. Maybe in a couple years when the technology is more developed and there is more support for it. Right now it kind of seems like a waste of money.

Ironic how the first comments in both articles completely shut down the authors claims with linked evidence... while both articles come off as scare tactic ish with no proof or links to actual science.

I still do not own a cell phone so that should pretty much tell you  my stance on such an item.
Kind of odd the human psyche ,there are always a bunch of people that feel the need to stay out on top of technology even if there is no practical use ,a waste of money. Then there are those that sit idle, pacifists never care one way or another.

I fall in between,i take notice and make a common sense judgment call and this to me looks like nothing more than a cheap gimmick. This will do nothing for the industry other than make a few people rich while others waste their money, pretending they are opening presents on Christmas day.It is funny i mentioned a cell phone because i have actually seen people make videos on you Tube showing them unwrapping their new cell phones just like they were opening presents on Christmas day.....sad really.

As of now it is a complete waste of money, but try and convince all those people opening their presents, they are amused by a piece of hardware ,some transistors and diodes a goofy looking gadget to stick on their head,50 years from now people will look back and say WTF !!!

How many people still play with their Nintendo Power glove and that was 1990.Imagine 25 years later and nobody cares about that old gimmick, people probably chuckle about it now but back then there was probably some internet frenzy raving about the latest technology ..the Power Glove !!!.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Statistically speaking is this safer then driving a car? I mean you are basically put your entire body at risk every time you jumping into a 70 mph moving piece of metal but I bet you don't ride in a horse and buggy to work now do you?

I don't plan to adopt the "VR revolution" so fast. While it all looks too good to be true, I am afraid it will be more like the whole 3D scam. 3D sounded great but what they delivered varied so greatly, not only per product offered but by individual perception. With VR, we still do know how it will be applied. We are very unclear as to what the ultimate system specs will be (contrary to what they are trying to SELL us). We still do not know the long term effects on those minor things like eye fatigue or simple vision. Again, I am just as excited about the whole VR thing but just want to take it slow.

I have been sitting in front and a monitor pretty much 90% of my waking time and pretty much for 30+ years and regarding neck injury I have more neck and back problems from not moving my body then I do from moving my body and ...oh...I ride a motorcycle and still have yet to have neck problems with a helmet on.

last time I checked wikipedia had 176 games with Oculus support for them which is about 176 more games that used 3D technology before Doom was released

    I will eventually.
I'll probably wait for them to drop in price or something though. I'm not someone who HAS to have the latest shiny the moment it comes out. :D

Too early for me yet.  I'm hearing the vive is the way to go.  I think letting the dust settle a bit is in order.

4K programming? You know that polygons do scale with resolution without the need of additional programming. Pretty much every game looks better in 4K. Some more, some less. But there not a single one that looks worse.

Personally I tend to avoid first generation hardware.  I purchased a Z-Board (keyboard) when they first came out and a year later they changed something and no new inserts would work in my device after that.   That is just one example of how I got hosed by jumping on the band wagon too fast.

I also dont see any monumental games out yet to take advantage of it.  Most of them are just tech demos without a lot of substance.

Let us know how you like it.

    very reasonable.
What I dont know is if the game design choices are different with Vive as the would be with Oculus. If so its a very valid concern and no doubt there will be others. I think the next few years will be the 'battle of the standard'. I think (but I would not bet on it) that Oculus will win that war simply because they are about a year ahead of everyone and they have been open with developers from the start.

Will probably preorder...but depends on the price too anything over 450$ and well I prob wont as that will cost me far too much since I have to do the whole CAD to USD thing.

Even if the price is right I might just preorder next month too since Jan tends to be tight budget wise for me considering we just got done with the holidays etc etc
