imageWhat You Need to Know About Head Start & Launch

Perhaps this is a little premature, but in the fairness of a slow post-Holiday news week, you’ll have to forgive us for getting excited about Blade & Soul’s impending head start on January 15th (next week!). So as we’re counting down the days, here’s the info you need to get prepped and ready for the moment the servers come on.

Its a sad state of affairs when the number one reason to play is, "Yes... – what else are you playing in January that’s new? "

Well I did enjoy the beta tests and the game in general has a pretty decent storyline, so I will give it a few hours a week along with the other games I play.

Game's storyline was completely changed because of SJWs, it's not good anymore.

Looking forward to BnS! Enjoyed the betas and really liked the PvP arena. Time to woop up on some people :D

Character creation is pretty detailed and I spent a lot more time on it then I thought I would. I like how they handle pvp. The combat, story, most of the classes aren't bad.

"some items you need to upgrade your weapon come from one of only two places – random drops from loot bags, or on the store for a pittance."

Yeah I'm not a fan of that. AT ALL. Devilian has a couple of things I hate as well. Cash shops should be about cosmetics and maybe MF boosts. Not stuff that affects your items and power.

Care to elaborate? Did the story require scantily clad players? Was the original story that players could only defeat bosses in their nighties?

    SJW ruined this game.

@Bill - This is definitely appropriate considering the game will launch on the 15th. Blade and Soul should get alot of attention, we should celebrate this occasion, a rare one where a game actually launches. Thanks for the artcile.

He isn't even talking about that. Read what you're replying to. The SJW didn't stop at the outfits, they decided to rewrite quests. People who have no experience making quests and stories.

The quests and storyline, deemed "offensive", was changed, so much so that many quests no longer make any sense whatsoever.

And these people are actually SJW. They think it's their job to be an SJW. The LinkedIn Profile of the creative writer says:
"Experience rewriting culturally unacceptable narratives. More than a typical localization job, we were asked to tear the game down to it's very core and rebuild it with an almost entirely new storyline, motivations, and character archetypes. ".

I kid you not. The whole game was rewritten into SJW form.

These are people that previously lost their job translating movies because they changed the storyline to fit their own idea of what the translation should be.

"No. Seriously. Censoring is being forced to remove or delete something by a higher governmental power. While some may not like that there are more clothes (across the board and across genders) in western Blade & Soul than in its KR forebear, it’s not censorship that’s to blame, it’s localization. While there’s a fine line between the two, it’s a pretty clear one. It shouldn’t be a deal breaker for anyone, but I’m sure some will hate the changes made."

Ummm ... no. I mean you need less than 5 seconds to open wikipedia (depending on your bandwidth ofc ) so what are you doing here William? Creating your OWN definitions?

"Governments, private organizations and individuals may engage in censorship"

So where do you prefer to draw that line between censorship and "localization" is just your choice but please leave the readers to draw also their line.

and there is no no. seriously. needed.

yah, let's not make up our own definitions

let's take the authority on the English language, the Oxford English Dictionary

Censorship: "The suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable."

This is what happened in Blade & Soul, therefore it is censorship, end of story. There is no room for ambiguity in that definition, nor a need to start to make up your own definitions, the definition is crystal clear.

People always find something to complain about. On a positive note - if you want the other story line, you can always go play that version of the game. I actually prefer the Asian culture and story line, but it doesn't bother me in the least if they change it. They're in charge, and allowed to modify their game how they see fit. Noone said you had to like it.

You know, I don't understand, and maybe someone can help me here.  I don't want to get into the argument over who calls what censorship and localization.   But why is it here in America, you can watch someone get gored to death, entrails and all hanging out, but when it comes to exposure of the human body it is so taboo that it is practically illegal?  Does it even make any sense?

It bothers me that companies cave into the SJW's, or whatever you want to call them.  But why do they?  The game is THEIR vision.  What THEY wanted it to be?  Why don't they tell the censors to go stuff it?

While I agree with you, think about how our version of this country was founded. Effectively the 'prudes' of Europe left to settle other lands. How did they do that? With war.

Because sites like Kotaku, Polygon and Gamespot started to give bad reviews to games that exposed too much skin. A good example is Bayonetta 2.

Polygon: "Bayonetta 2's blatant over-sexualization puts a big dent in an otherwise great game"

Other examples often involve female writers critiquing games complaining about the sexyness of the female characters. This happened several times on Gamespot. The FFXV trailer was deemed too sexy by a female writer at Gamespot, the cindy character was showing too much cleavage according to her.

These sites, especially those 3, started docking points when a game had sexy characters, it started to happen about 2 years ago. It doesn't happen with every review, it depends on the reviewer, but it happened enough that people started to notice it.

This is another reason why the gamergate movement exists. These sites are no longer reviewing the game, they are punishing sexy characters by docking points.

This is why Japanese developers got scared, these sites were pressuring them into censoring. This is why no one goes to those sites anymore.

they totally f*cked quests... all HAIL LOCALIZATION!!!!
  • TenkouseiTenkousei Member UncommonPosts: 114
It's not censored as in "modified by the government", but it is surely self censored: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-censorship

I'll play it, but i hate what they've done to the story and the char-dev.

A lot, I can't read Korean but much localized content makes no sense.

A good idea of what changed can be found on people's linked-in profiles:

"As a member of the Blade & Soul team, I was part of the effort to rewrite the game from the ground-up for western audiences. More than a typical localization job, we were asked to tear the game down to it's very core and rebuild it with an almost entirely new storyline, motivations, and character archetypes.

    • Outlined a multi-act narrative for Blade & Soul.
    • Wrote VO scripts for Act II of Blade & Soul.
    • Edited VO scripts for Act I and Act III of Blade & Soul.
    • Generated supporting lore documentation for Blade & Soul, including character motivations and world histories."
