I think I'll be going to Best Buy tonight, but I'm not quite sure what game to get: either Dragon Quest VIII or Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition.
Dragon Quest VIII has been called the quintessential RPG for the PS2. I love turn-based RPGs like Final Fantasy. Only 4 characters is quite a turn-off for me, though. I really like a wide variety of characters in my RPGs.
Devil May Cry 3 has been called one of the hardest games of all time... and that's appealing to me, being a hardcore gamer. I also like the fact that you get to play as Vergil in the special edition version, as well as it only costing $20.
I honestly don't know which to buy... I figure I can always rent Dragon Quest VIII to see if I like it and really want to buy it. I already know I like the Devil May Cry games.
I've read reviews on both games, and frankly, I can't decide. I just wanted to hear some real player testimonials and arguments on which one I should get.

I haven't played DQ3 but, I've played a game released beside it Romancing Saga.. it's crap.
Dunno what else to say so.... mOOOOOOOOoooooo!
Professor Hubert Farnsworth - That question is less stupid but, you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.
you know you'll probably end up get both. I think you're asking which one to get first, in which case I would recommend Dragon Quest VIII
Ive played DMC3 and I own DQ8.
DMC3 is a great action game, and yes its extremly difficult. I didnt play DMC2 because I heard it wasnt all that great, but I did play the original, and DMC3 takes all the good things about the original and adds a bunch of cool new features.
DQ8 is fairly similar to FF in some regards but its quite different altogether. The story isnt that exciting but the game is a lot of fun (although the random battles can get a little tedious, luckily you get a spell that can stop them). Its also quite difficult in terms of RPGs. The world is HUGE and there are a bunch of mini-quests like finding monsters to create a monster team and finding mini-medals. Its also a really long game, so far im about 60 hours into and im just getting to the end, I expect it will be about 10 more hours until its done. Mind you, I dont rush through games, I like to do the side quests and explore so you may finish it faster than I did. Also the music is really good, if you like sort of classical/fantasy stuff.
Basically, both are great games, it just depends which genre you want to play more at the momeny I guess.
I went with DMC3:SE.
I never was really in love with the graphics for DQ8--though I didn't hate it, either. It just didn't have as much appeal to me as it does to others. Then I heard about the monster battles and stuff, and the fact there's only 4 characters (I like my RPGs with lots of variety).
I've been extremely happy with DMC3, but sadly I'm blowing through normal difficulty. I'll have to turn it up a notch after I beat the game. And, after then, I'll be able to play with Vergil.
Until then, when I don't want to play an MMO but want an RPG fix, I'll play FF: Tactics (that definately fulfills my craving for multiple characters).

are you talking about the final fantasy tactics for ps one? if so i dont recomend it much. ive beaten it before and its not that good. i mean it is but its too easy. like the final boss on it Altima the Angel is one of the easiest battles EVER in the entire game and the ending was crappy.
One thing i do like about it though is how when you get cloud in it he starts at lvl 1 but his Limit skills do as much damage as a lvl 45 guys does. and he lvls up so fast. just give him the best accessories and armor and hes bouit as good as ramza. always use ramza cloud and orlandu if you play it.
Just thought id let you know, even thought thats just my opinion.
