Awww man. :( This makes me sad. MH is one of my all time favorite games and definitely my "go to" game.

Hopefully Gaz keeps on chugging along. They've got plenty of talented people working with them, so I still can't wait to see what 2016 brings, even with the loss of Brevik.

That being said, going indie? I wonder if he's going to continue on with his ARPG roots. No matter what, I'm definitely interested in seeing what comes next from him.

Not usually a sky is falling guy but this worries me. If it was just him, not a big deal. However, it wasn't that long ago when a lot of other, very community visible, employees left as well. Just last week they had another departure with TheCosmicCupcake.

They have changed their game plan as well. They have said for 2016 they will be focusing more on quality, less on quantity and releasing fewer heroes this year. So... a lot of employees leaving/fired, CEO resigning, and already letting us know we will see less content this year. This doesn't exactly make me confident about the game's future.

Brevik has been tossed around so much in his career for various reasons and has had so much impact on the industry everywhere he has gone, I just want to see him where he belongs "at the top of the heap" for the rest of his days.

How epic would it be if he went back to Blizzard and made Diablo 4..... pretty damn epic.

Gods speed Brevik and hope he lands on his talented feet wherever he goes as he usually does and I will be following him wherever that may be as I love everything he has ever done.

Mr. Brevik certainly has notable work and achievements in his portfolio. He's a solid contributor to any team and I'm looking forward to his future projects.

He wasn't really in charge of design on Marvel Heroes as far as I can tell.  I'm not sure what his role was before Doomsaw arrived, but it certainly seemed to be Doomsaw's baby once he arrived.

Anyway, you can't blame him for wanting to return to the design side of things.  Marvel Heroes is mainly on maintenance mode at this point.  They abandoned the hardcore/competitive side of the market since the beginning and I think that was a mistake.

I can't wait to see what his next game will be, A spiritual successor to diablo 2 perhaps or maybe something new altogether, Either way I'm sure it will be great.

It sounds like a PR speech, like they gave him a ton of money to part ways and say nice things about the game.
He says his team was extremely talented, that game hardly looks like talented to me,that is stuff any Indie developer could pull off and easily.IDK maybe he is just not up to date on what development can accomplish in a game now a days or even 15 years ago.
I see the game as 1-2 button spam with low end graphics, hardly a game worth even mentioning but then again Diablo lives on the same low end development ideals. You need to do a LOT better job with animations and graphics to bring a shallow combat game to the limelight otherwise you get people playing it just because they see a super hero and not because the game is any good.

I have never wanted to play this game,it just looks that bad, so as for creator or CEO i feel his job was poorly done.Did they at one time make lots of money off the IP brand alone, likely yes and still games today cash in using the same sell job but from a technical standpoint the game is 15-20 years old.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

We really don't need another spiritual successor to Diablo 2.

The game is actually really quite good. It won a number of GOTY awards in 2014 and holds an 81% critic rating on Metacritic. It's problem isn't that it isn't a good game, because it is, but that it failed to provide compelling reasons for people to keep playing, which is crucial for a F2P model. Take a look at PoE, for example, which is far more successful than MH purely because it offers regular ladders, frequent content expansions, and complex character development, where MH was fairly watered down in these regards. It's well worth a play however if you are a fan of the ARPG genre.

From a technical standpoint, the game is built on the UE3 engine version from 2013, so it's not built on 15-20 year old technology (unless you're being abstract, in which case everything is built on 15-20 year old technology).

You're a bit of an idiot, really. The game allows you to slot 7 skills in total, and on harder difficulties you have to use them all (so not a 1-2 button combat game, as you suggested). The graphics are actually pretty well done, and when compared to other games in the genre hold up pretty well tbh. Path of Exile has far worse graphics than MH, and Grim Dawn only just nudges ahead in some ways where it doesn't in others.

And Grinding Gear (PoE), Crate (Grim Dawn) and Runic (Torchlight 2) would argue with you profusely about any indie being able to make an ARPG like MH.

Best comical comment of 2016. It's always easier to make responses like this when you are on the outside looking in and kinda clueless. To be honest with you, several of your comments could probably be used on some of the games you've mentioned you like and play.

He mostly likely just needed and wanted to make games not being deep CEO when your not really making games when the company so big.

Well that is always a possibility... Well maybe not D4 but for Blizzard to cook up a new action RPG. If so it makes sense to bring back the top dog in the field of ARPG´s

But more likely there is some other company doing just that and simply "bought"him.

I hope MH keep on going strong, it is a fun casual game =)

This have been a good conversation

Huhmmm.... then steap down to game developer/programmer and work on your beloved game?

Why quit altogether? Specially when it was his founded company and when he seemingly says he loves MH.

This whole BS of quitting to pursue his dream career is just that. Donkey dung.

So apparently he has already got a website up for his indie studio idea:
    http://www.graybeardgames.com/#

I also find it amazingly interesting that he would and has in fact considered going back to Blizzard after watching that video, just that he wants them to open a studio where he is cause he isn't willing to move, pretty awesome and Blizzard should jump on that and make accommodations for him, they really need to make that happen...

Blizzard has no need for him. He burned his bridges with his unprofessional comments that jumped on the rough launch of D3. While MH launched with in a worse state, this guy was gleefully making comments against D3. Fast forward years later.. Which game looks far more polished far more interesting and far more ready for the future? Sure as hell ain't Mh.

Blizzard doesn't need Him. And I wouldn't be suprised he grabbed some of the staff who left Gazillion to work on his INDIE product.

I don't think it was David, but the Diablo 3 staff that were vulgar. Davis was asked about what he had thought about Diablo 3 and pretty stated what we all knew... it sucks.

dude is a pioneer of the genre & contributed great nostalgic arpg memories to millions! unlike these vapid dead horse d3 devs of today who's extremely out of touch with their player base. MH animation & graphics belong in the 90s but once u're able to swallow that pill, it's actually a fun & decent game. all the best to the man, will surely follow his next project.

They would never do that.  Look at all of the talent that has left to make their own games like GW2, Torchlight and Marvel Heroes.  They get the creative freedom that Blizzard almost never provides.  Blizzard is very much design by committee.
