Good interview and a refreshing change from many of the "Women in male-dominated ____ industry" that think that to build women up you have to tear men down.

Too bad she's an absolutely terrible Cm. We hated her in EVE and we're not overly happy she's now in crowfall.

I feel this article and new post is testing gamers ability to be civil on this subject now that Gamegate is about a year old. which is a reasonable test

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Well as far as community goes i would pick a female over a guy every time.Women just like to communicate lmao, guys like to be lazy and get angry because they lost their Proline on the football games.
I still have a thread saved from an old ass hat community guy from Square Enix "FFXI"Total moron, power tripper, you name it he was it.He used to get a kick out of banning people because he considered them stupid...PERFECT guy for a community job.../not.Women we just have to stay away from for those few days a month :P

I might add this, don't be feeling sorry for women in the work place, they are owning Twitch .tv with nothing more than sexism and some are making a lot of money with that. Some ring girls do nothing but parade around in a skimpy bathing suit and make 2g's,i am pretty sure no male is going to be paid more than 2 bucks to parade around in a bikini.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Great article. Since females make up about half the gaming population it makes more since to have more females actually involved in the process of making games, or in her case, representing games in some way other than a bikini model standing at a booth at a trade show.
Umm any statistics at all to back that up? That females, are about half the gaming population, part.  Not trying to be mean here...just that totally goes against what i think is true, and what i see in my group of friends that play games.

Unless you are talking all gaming including facebook, phones and that type too. I could believe that. But not consoles or PC's i do not think.

Just wondering if things have really changed that much.

If the game would become better because of it every developer could be a female. Hell, they could be donkeys for all I care!

I would say things have changed and maybe it also depends on who you hang with. I'm female and the majority of people I game with are women as well. We play multiple genres of games on xbone and pc (Halo, ESO, Ark and more). The few guilds I've joined over the last few years have also had a good percentage of women gamers. It's not just dudes on the internet anymore! ;)

Anecdotal evidence doesn't prove much - I know a lot of women who game, but quite a few don't actively broadcast it while playing, in fact many try to hide it.

    anyway, here's some stats

    ESA report 44% http://www.theesa.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/ESA-Essential-Facts-2015.pdf

    A UK survey reported 52% though http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/sep/17/women-video-games-iab

so statistics are a little off. It could be harder to determine as well because women are less likely to self identify as gamers even when they play comparable, and even more hours. http://www.pewinternet.org/2015/12/15/public-debates-about-gaming-and-gamers/

    Statistics on mobile gaming http://www.statista.com/topics/1906/mo...

TLDR - 52% woman 48% guys - so saying mobile is predominately women is flase
Breakdown of Mobile Content types http://blog.apptopia.com/game-demograph...

TlDr - differs immensely although it was noted woman are more committed in their games, and men more fickle.

    Another http://www.realitymine.com/myth-busting-m...

TLDR - 70% of women play mobile games against 66% of men. Play times simliar although woman a little more, a little more consistently

So gender demographics play mobile games pretty equally.

    Gamer playing habits - http://www.pewinternet.org/2015/10/29/dev...

TLDR - Woman own more consoles . quite a large POC demographic too

Males vastly dominating the gaming industry are a thing of the past, though males are certainly the louder and more obnoxiously vociferous of the two genders.  The only thing that keeps this perspective alive is homophobic men who demand that every female avatar somehow identify/prove themselves to be female before they even make contact or begin (sweet) talking to said female avatar.  The simple solution to their homophobia is to just play the game the same regardless of whether they are playing with males or females.  There are other social dating platforms that can be utilized if you are looking for a date.  Ever wonder why women never give 2 shts about what gender the another toon is, but it is a constant obsession with men?

    /Evolve already

    sounds about right

even more so that one of my ex's was that he was always Cam to prove it i was disgusted i was like ...really ...

not all men are that way though , good chunk yeah even the current guy i'm dating agrees & that most men will give us shit for no reason other then being a female which...

note have you ever wondered why some of us don't mic?? or we try to hide from most?

other then that honestly there's not many actual females in Gaming please dont count facebook/app games they's do not count.

if were talking FPS/MMO's/RTS then the % is more around 5% women 95% men.

and there are barely any DEV's of our gender in actual Games.

however one of my fav females of all time is voice actor & that's Jennifer Hale she has best job ever & is so sweet to the gaming community

I hate those statistics because they muddy the waters, so you may get an general idea but the meat is in the details.

If you split gamers into categories like PC and Mobile, they tell a completely different story  You also get a completely different story when looking at the different genres of games, like CoD vs Candy Crush.

    http://developers.magmic.com/demographic-breakdown-casual-mid-core-hard-core-mobile-gamers/

Sure, you can say there are just as many, if not more women gamers but I suspect that if you listed out the games being used in these surveys, people would laugh at you on these forums.

Infographics and infogrphics~esque PDFs almost always give you no real and consumable information.

The only women I see in the gaming industry are community managers, cosplay girls, reporters, twitch cam girls and maybe once in awhile someone that does some artwork. You very rarely ever see a woman who actually codes or does real game design. Plenty of women in the gaming industry just most of them don't really have much to do with making games. Twitch has basically become chaturbate lite with all the sluts doing cosplay for donations. They might have a game running, but they barely play it and aren't too interested in it. I guess it is easier to just wear low cut tops and show some skin than actually do any work, but that's pretty much the case everywhere, not just in gaming. Men do the work while women stand around talking and looking nice. Why would the gaming industry be any different?

I can't remember her name now but Eve Online has a female fairly high up in their development team (she might actually be the head dev).

It depends more on the actual game and not on genres. LotRO for example is known for having a large % of female players and I think that's one of the reasons it have such a great community. (or because of the mature playerbase. who knows? )  TSW is similar, lots of ladies in game (and a friendly community).

Agree. It really doesn't matter what gender you are as long as your taleneted and doing a good job.

I see this women in gaming thing come up every now and then and see all kinds of replies both pro women and not and how 3rd wave feminism is bla bla bla...

Myself as a gamer I have certain things I look for in a great game, as we all do, and you all know especially if you have spent any time at all in this forum that can be drastically different, as can be seen by our more often than not heated discussion.

That said when it really comes down to it why in baator should I give a rats behind who makes a game past is it good, why should I even care if it's guys or gals making it, on the dev team or not etc etc?

Seriously I am curious... past being a puff piece I am not going to really care 30 mins after reading said piece much less once home after work or after a really good gaming session.

It makes me wonder are these articles really about gaming and making better games or are they more about some other social issues that don't really have anything to do with gaming?

I mean why not talk about whether someone making a game is christian, muslim, jewish or athiest cause in the end it wont really have more of an impact on the game than which sex the people making it are imo.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

Dig a bit deeper into Twitch. There are a lot of female streamers who stream for love of the games, not playing dress-up, and don't put up with any of the crap the cam-girls just giggle at or encourage/ignore.
    They're just gamers.

Personally I don't give two figs regarding the gender of the people making the game.  The only thing I care about is the game any good.

AM i really wrong? How do you know she isn't just a puppet, told what to do?How do you know her boss has not laid out specific guidelines on how to do her job?I personally don't know myself,i don't know her personally at all,not even minutely.
As to how community works in general with all games, well yeah expect nothing but biased articles and biased interviews with pre scripted/rehearsed questions.Developers don't make money telling you their true intentions or telling you what they feel is bad about their game.

It is not morally correct the way advertising and community work but we have to accept it until someone actually passes more laws against deceptive advertising practices.
Remember when Wow released that one expansion,i don't remember the name of it now,but there were so many glitches and broken quests,Blizzard FAKED the forum servers crashed to keep the negativity right out while they were selling the expansion.

Is it a rule about all female gamers having coloured hair?
