Mouse only game suggestions (disabled friendly)

qwerty54321qwerty54321 Member UncommonPosts: 2

Hi

I’m disabled and have lost a lot of the use of my left arm in the last couple of years, pushing me out of many game options. It is painful to reach the keyboard, I can occasionally press space or something at the bottom of the keyboard but this takes time. Can anyone suggest some good games? They must be free play, I cannot afford subscriptions

To give some more information I can just about play wizard 101 but I often get left out of groups when you have to press X fast

In the past I have played tribal wars and TRAVIAN (apologies for capitals, speech to text doesn’t understand the word so I had to spell it) but am unable to be online all the time and didn’t like player attacks being such a big part of the game. I also played farming games. I would like to be able to play in teams with people some of the time rather than against them, the internet is my only connection to the outside world so I find that valuable

On my DS I like to play games like final fantasy, dragon quest, POKEMON and harvest moon. I do play some Facebook games, but I prefer things with more strategy than social media offers.

I am looking into a wireless gaming mouse with a couple of extra buttons to customise, but I do not know if I could use these fast. If it is not against forum rules I’d appreciate some affordable suggestions.

Thank you for your time

Hey, I'd suggest getting a macro mouse like a Razor Naga or even a logitech with programable buttons (I have a g500 and i like it, less buttons than the naga though).  With a macro mouse or keypad you can set one of its buttons to repeat x every 30 miliseconds while held down and solve your wizard 101 problems.

When you say it's painful to reach the keyboard do you mean with your left arm?  If you do have some movement in that arm you could consider getting a g13 and resting it on your lap or wherever your left arm normally stays.  the buttons on a g13 are fairly large and would be easy to program to various combinations to allow you to play most games out there.  This would require that you could still move one of your fingers though or your elbow/forearm.  It has a handy "thumb" joystick if you have the mobility to push it around a bit, could easily be done if you have slight movement of your left arm.

Lastly, if you still have the use of your legs you should get yourself a set of these: http://www.gamingmouse.com/gaming/fragpedal/quad/ The 4 foot pedals are fully programmable you can set them as wasd for walking around in some games or complicated macro sequences.  Again, you could set one of these pedals to repeat x for your wizard 101 woes :)

With that combination of peripherals you should be able to play and even master most games out there if you get a bit creative with your key mappings.  Even first person shooters would be do-able with only the pedals and mouse (extra easy if you have a bit of mobility on your left side for the g13 game pad)  Config wise, you could then bind forward, backward, strafe left, strafe right to the foot pedals and the use the mousewheel to scroll through weapons.  with that you'd have plenty of buttons to bind crouch, and any other fanciness the game would have.

    Best of luck to you!

    Maybe try out http://www.bladesoflegends.com/Account#/Login

Clicker Heroes and AdVenture Capitalist are entertaining games too, they're on Steam.

With a mouse that has buttons, I'd suggest like Diablo or some of those ARPGs maybe.

There's a lot of browser based games you could find here that don't require a keyboard too.

Ooh, I just posted this one. I love this game and, if you need to, you can play entirely with the mouse. Old school graphics, but awesome open play style. (It's in beta at the moment.)

I feel bad for ya. Hope this helps.

You can also give Star Trek Online a try, in combination with this program http://www.ifes.us/index.php/keybind-application . It was made to help people with disabilities play more easily.

Yes arpg's are pretty much mouse only and MANY Asian rpg's are mouse only with point n click movement or  even sometimes r-mouse to move. The only downside to rpg's is they usually are designed around WASD while needing to press 1/2/3/4 but usually there is a hotbar and can simply click the icons. As well most of those Asian rpg's are also auto target no manual aiming.

It is hard for me to remember exact titles i have played too many games but if you search Aeria games for example and yes Diablo or Path of Exile you should find something.
It is depressing for me to hear of struggles like  that,i don't know what i would do if it were me,good luck to you anyhow.

    OT:

If you still have the full use of your right arm, you could remap one of the mouse buttons to function as X -key for Wizard 101.

You'll just need a mouse with couple of extra buttons, and many of them allow remapping those buttons. There are also some third party programs that can intercept your mouse button press and changed it into key X, but those third party programs are harder to use.

Getting a gaming mouse, with many extra buttons, is good advice. There are quite a few about.
A two second search has thrown this one up purely as an example:

     - but I'd emphasize that the best way to choose is to get to a shop and try them out - and make sure that it's comfortable for you to use.

I was just thinking, a game like league of legends would work well for you if you had those foot pedals, its only 4 buttons to play the game and right clicking.  I dunno if your interested in MOBA's but if you were its a thought!  Its 100% free to play you arn't punished in any way for not spending money.

If you have a console (PS4/Xbone) pair the stinkyfoot pedals with a razer naga mouse to a xim4 and ESO would be a cool option. Not exactly cheap though, roughly $270. Of course that setup works for PC also minus the xim4.

    Hi again

Firstly I just wanted to say thank you. I’m sure you’ve all experienced communities in games that are less than helpful or just out and out rude so I wasn’t sure what reception I’d get here, if any. It was when the newsletter went out saying about new games this year that I say and thought “but I want to play those too!”

I used to play call of duty, tomb raider and type at least 75 words a minute so it’s been hard to lose my mobility. The games you’ve suggested are being looked into, thank you. I was surprised how active some looked, I thought turn based would be the most available.

As for the hardware I had no idea there was so much available. I thought a mouse with 2 extra buttons was about the limit! I’m currently bedbound and can move very little on my lower half due to nerve damage in my right leg, so foot pads won’t work at the moment. I’m waiting for an amputation though that should allow me to get into a reclining armchair at the least, I can reconsider that then. I have ankle movement it my left leg so I may be able to place it in the middle of the board.

As for the mice with a huge control panel on the side I’ll have to see if somewhere will let me borrow one to see how much movement I have to control them.

I showed my mum and full time carer the mouse and that G 13, and she said to forget we just had Christmas if either look like I could use them. I think if we could strap the game pad to my chest I could use most of the buttons while being able to reach the analogue controller

So hard to pick a post that answered me, I consider they all did in their own ways.

Nice to meet you all, maybe I’ll see you in games one day!

I hope something works out for you! I'd be interested to hear the solution you find.  I think as long as you're willing to work at it there's always a solution out there!  I've seen some folks that designed a mouth trigger so they could release a bowstring when they were missing an arm.  Or a clutch on the right side of a motorcycle facing backwards so you can ride without a left arm.  Sometimes the solutions seem a bit bizarre, but always better to look funny and accomplish your goals than to be constrained by whats usual!  Pc's are great for that, if you have controlled movement in any part of your body chances are you could get or create a controller to use with that.  good luck, im sure you'll find a good solution.

You could play as a healer in World of Warcraft, use a healbot addon and dispell addon, use a programmable mouse as some have suggested, you could one handidly perform just as well as anyone that is using two hands to play with, I promise.

In terms of this, not sure which country your in, but i know in UK if you speak to social services  / NHS, you may well be able to get them to fund a mouse / control if you explain it will help you have social mobility if not physical, I know a few people (my daughter is career for mentally and phyisically handicapped) who have been able to claim certain technology items that  allows them to keep social... But this is from UK but  might be charities you could even try in any country

But good luck with your hunt for a game

This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.
