Gamespot review of DDO

That isn't a review of the game. That's the preview. Gamespot probably won't write a review for a few weeks. They have recently deceided to take a different approach with MMORPG's and actually play them for a few weeks before writing up a review.

Which I applaud them for. Any review that comes out within 1 week of release is going to be biased by the "newness" of how cool the game is at first to play.

My personal opinion is that DDO is really cool at first. I remember when I first got into beta. That first week I thought DDO was the greatest MMO ever made. By week 3 though my opinion had drastically changed when I realized how incredibly small and how little effort Turbine put into creating different quests. (Sure the quests have different goals but when you start to see the exact same dungeons just with different quests you'll know what I'm referring to)

DDO has been out for a week now. In 2-3 more weeks I fully expect there to be an exodus of players out of the game. I'll actually be really surprised if it doesn't happen.

Review or preview - its merely an exercise in symantics. The same information is there and while he does not grade the game he clearly likes the game a great deal.

    Game reviews are always subjective.

Previews on GameSpot are notoriously rosy. They give the developer the benefit of the doubt. I've seen highly-anticipated games with very hopeful previews get 5.0 and lower scores with scorching reviews.

Gamespot has given great reviwes to quite a few stinkers, I no longer use them to judge a game before I buy it.
