Well If ya havnt noticed warhammer online is being made again.
And by a devloper we all know and love. The Same people who made DaoC is making warhammer Online. There was a recent artical on it in PC Gamer all about it.
So what do you think? with this game by a new devloper will you get it.
I personaly cant wait for it.
Comments
I'll wait and see. I'm glad it is back in development, and happy an experienced company has picked it up, but I've never pre-ordered a game in my life. I'm keeping an eye on it.
When people will pay others to play a game for them it might be a sign the game isn't all that fun.
No matter how bad reviews it may get, i simply have to try it myself.
You, you, and you: Panic. The rest, come with me.
From reading the article in PCGamer, WAR sounds like it will be a better game than WoW, since pvp will actually be meaningful. But like always I will take the safe route and just wait to see how it turns out before considering to buy it.

To me it's nothing like Warhammer online, sounds more like DAOC2.

its being made by Mythic thats why i bring it up.
And the Reason i bring this up is because they just released a decent amount of info on it after it was picked up again.
"I'm sorry but your mmo has been diagnosed with EA and only has X number of days to live."
Actually technically it was 'off the radar' for a short amount of time after Games Workshop stopped developing it themselves before Mythic picked it up.
Personally I'm very pleased with the way things are going for Warhammer Online (aka WAR). Games Workshop, while quite good at what they do, I don't think would have been able to execute the game very well, simply because they're not a software company. Mythic, on the other hand, has created a great MMO, which many people still play, and I think they were probably the best choice as far as a company to revive the project.
I hope they still keep some of the cool ideas that the original WAR developers had. I actually got to speak with the original developers way back a couple years ago and they had some very ambitious goals for the game. I have about 2 hours of video I took while they were giving an introduction at a games workshop convention. It has some ingame footage and stuff, which may be changed at this point seeing as we don't know how much they gave to Mythic when they transfered the license over, but I'll see if I can find it and see if it might be worth hosting.

Make up your mind, is it by a company we all love or is it by the same folks that made DAoC??
While the initial concept of DAoC was great their expansions showed (to me anyway) that they have no clue how to design a decent game. With all the archery, stealther, and battleground redos they have had over the years trying to get it right REALLY shows me they don't know what they are doing.
"When I play a pve game with arena based pvp(gay as hell) I can play it for a few days and already I can tell how the game will be after a year of playing because all you do is kill mobs to get the next carrot."
To make a relative view because I've played DAoC.
You are saying that the PvE game isn't fun because you kill mobs endlessly for the next carrot(s).
The entire basis of DAoC at least in its current state is... To endlessly farm other players for the next carrot. You are looking at it from the pvp viewpoint so we don't really have to bring up that DAoC does have decent pve but..
The entire game hinges on which group or side in larger battles has the most IWin buttons. Which mostly were earned through gaining RP's to buy the RA's that give the mentioned IWin buttons.
I'm also not sure that I'd agree with the OP as Mythic being a company that we all love. If they do as good a job in WAR (their name for the game) with balance. We can see another VN forum with more action than the actual game.
In my time with DAoC I played on 3 different servers which are now mostly clustered Bors at release, Nimue a RP server later on and for the last year on Gareth.
I find the game interesting at first then it quickly turns into ungodly boredom.
When I played Ultima Online I must say at first I found the pvp harsh. Then I grew to like it.. the fact I could lose my stuff when I died gave me an awareness of at least some penalty. The idea that I could loot others gave me lets say some goal that seemed interesting.
Anyway to end the ramble..
To me DAoC is exactly to PvP what you say makes PvE so bad. The only endgame is to endlessly farm other players for RP's... To buy the realm abilities to help farm them more efficiently. There is no actual great outcome or goal beyond that.
UO probably was somewhat like that... but quite often I looted some nice weapons off another player that sold for a good amount of gold.
**When you kill other playrs in DAoC they do drop coin and give xp as well as rp's. The coin is enough to get you buy if all you do is rvr after you get setup. My main issue is that the RvR is just a repetitive farming of other players that I see as being no more interesting than the PvE example I quoted above. Especially the way the RvR unfolds on the average night that there is decent action.. its just not what i find interesting in any way**
I just read the April PC Gamer Warhammer article. They are certainly promoting it which they have a habit of doing with most games, ie selling it. I'd say it has the potential of being better than ever. I also read about the 20 other mmo titles in the works. It will be interesting to see which ones will be truly good.
Regarding pvp, I played Planetside for 18 months before burning out. I only played WoW for 14 months. You could make an argument that pvp kept me going longer. The problem with pvp is that it too can become old and repetitious especially if it's just individual fights with no overall objective. In Planetside, players usually were trying to take over islands made up of about 8-10 bases. Once they owned a base, it was theirs until someone took it from them.

You can't really say warhammer online is back. There never was a finished warhammer online, and mythic didn't pick up where the other company left off. Mythic isn't even calling it warhammer online. It's called W.A.R, although I'm sure most people playing it are going to call it warhammer online anyway
Mythic is making it's own warhammer, the old one is dead.
And Mythic did pick up the Idea.

</OBAMA>
I remember one of the devs making a big deal about it not being called warhammer online, this ones called W.A.R and it was a secret what war stood for...... Warhammer online Age of Reckoning...... No wonder people couldn't guess. W.O.A.O.R doesn't sound near as cool :P
Of course I don't think this means the games going to suck now :P but why lie about something as stupid as that.
The screenshots in the newsletter didn't look that good
Don't get me wrong it looks pretty good. But I had expected abit more detail, higher resolution on the textures, and more "grand" enviroments.
But the game looks promising and it has a good developer behind it.
Looks like the DAOC engine (for a game of 2007 is really bad) it also looks bright like WOW.
To sum up my feelings i'm not happy.

I think Mythic has a real chance to do something nice with this one.
Their development ideas include things like meaningul World PvP in which you fight to control various resources like temples, lumbermill, smithies etc... put side by side with instanced Scenarios that will determine ownership of a determined zone of the game depending on who win the most of them.
Win enough scenarios and you can eventually get to raid and sack the enemy capital, killing everybody inside and razing the place. Then the server resets and things return like they were before (for obvious reasons as there is no fun in playing a faction that has been defeated) and the scenarios can start anew.
Of course many details are still unknown like what happens when the capital is razed? do the winner get some bonus? how the resource buildings in the Real World (not instanced) works? what benefits they give and so on.
The removal of a level system and the adoption of a career system (that by the descriptions has passing resemblances with SWG Pre-NGE) is a bold move, but one needed for a game centered on PvP.
This, it seems, will be a very RvR centric game and it could set a new level for Consensual-based PvP games. At least i think they have such a chance.

By the look of the bottom of your Sig, I don't think you will be happy with any game.

The Dwarf screenshots don't look as good as the orc ones. They have only been working on the game a few weeks so it's pretty impressive to have an alpha client working already though. Also if you notice there are no shadows inplemented as yet.
I'm a bit hopeful for WAR, no level's, a skill based system with rvr from the start and the chance to capture an enemy capital for a while means at least it doesn't look pve grindy.
