What does LFG stand for?

Billius8Billius8 Member Posts: 574

Used to stand for "Looking for Group" and was a zone call to search for other players to group with.  Now, in my opinion, it really should stand for "Looking for Game."  Seriously, when half a server is maxed out at level 65, what is there really to do?  I've tried and tried to get back into EQ, but for the last two years have just not felt the same about it.  The game was magical and wonderful in its time, but it's dying now and needs to quickly be replaced by EQ2, or some other game.

Thanks EQ, for a wonderful time, but (cough) you can see yourself out the door.

I'm starting, but only starting to think that the game is getting quite old.....I remember staying at lvl 15 for at a year, just chillin, not leveling at all, having ball. once i leveled up to 40-50's, it got aaalot different. the people who play the game are probably the worst. you can inspect someone (see what gear and weapons they have and such), and they say that its rude....I'm like, Its a game buddy. the people change as you get higher in lvl. might think on givin up the game...dunno. if one thing, the game has gotta find some friendlier people...

As a former lvl 48 DK Elf, SK. A.K.A. "Odein Frostbane" I know how the game has both sides of the community.  I once got heckled by a guild because I was a Dark Elf, come on.  Role playing is great, but that just took it too far, I got off the game for two weeks because of that crap.

As a Dark Elf it was hard to come by groups in higher levels.  The places you could go were limited because everyone wanted to kill you and no one wanted to help you.  So sad.  LFG was constantly above my head, after a while it got old and I quit the game, though I do have nights where I wish I could go back.

EverQuest is what they call a "high end game"

whereas the game really begins when you get to a high level.

once there, you can go on raids etc....its not the same at lower levels..

therefore, eq is surviving, because high levels have more fun than low levels...

and its true, you cant deny it eh?

I found it that I had so much more fun at lower lvls compared at being at high levels....but I'm sure thats me. At higher levels, the exp. could be too slow for me, I mean you have to love leveling 10 levels in PC in less than a couple of hoursimage. I need a low end gameimageimage

    lol

but see..it's awesome when you are high

because then you can do vox raids etc...

and that to me...is the paying off point for all those hours invested into the game

but that's just me and a couple other hundred thousand

Will, I'm one of those decated players, started beta, bought game, played until about 6 months ago, log on just to see if some friends still on.  I got so tired of LFG as a druid, tons of rude people, soloing more at higher level, just the same old grinding to level or LFG.  Not to mention if you are in a raiding guild, omg, your expected to go or else they want to kick you out, now what kind of fun is that if your expected, sometimes you just get so bored with high level raiding, not to mention the time it takes for corpse recovery.

I would probably still be playing if I didn't have to try to get or find my corpse.  I like the game just hated when I couldn't get help to get my corpse, I don't feel like spending hours on end recovering my corpse and after over 5 years you would think they would make some better improvements.  Even in a guild, they have there own little groups that group constantly, so your still LFG.

Personally, I would rather group wtih abunch a fun loving people, enjoys the game, doesn't take it so seriously and realizes its to meet people and play for the fun of it.  I thought we all worked so dang hard in RL, why work so hard in a fantasy game that your suppose to have fun with and take RL issues away from you for awhile.  If you die in a game, why not take a penalty, not take away your exp and lose level, perhaps eating certains foods or a number of hrs to get rid of that penalty, but as I see it now, many games turn out the same.  LFG,can't find group, do crafting, sit on hrs end trying to find a group, this isn't fun.

So your almost right, LFG = Looking for Game ....lol...Sorry for long post.

I recently deleted a level 65 shadow knight because I was so sick and tired of the high end game. I had opportunities to join raiding guilds, but I find raiding really boring, and I don't need that kind of pressure in my life. I didn't have any trouble finding groups, but grinding away at AA points all the time is even more boring. And people are so uptight in the post-60 game that they act like they have never known how to relax and have fun in their whole lives.

So, I replaced my 65 SK with a new Vah Shir bard. Many of my friends were shocked and dismayed. But the bottom line for me was this: My characters aren't an investment of anything. I pay my $13 a month to have fun. If it is fun, it is worth the time and money I put into it. If it isn't fun, it is a waste of my time and money.

I haven't had any regrets about doing it. My only regret is that I spent so much time really unhappy because I was trying to play with my husband and my friends, and I wasn't enjoying it at all. What I find fun is trying new things and going places I haven't gone before, preferably at great peril. What the standard operating procedure of most people I know or am acquainted with is to go the tried-and-true route while trying to maximize reward vs. risk, and that's just not fun to me.

I probably won't resubscribe either of my accounts after this month. I just don't fit into the EQ culture, and I am too tired of it to try to seek out the other people who are more like me. I don't think there is really anything wrong with the game itself. It's just time for me to move on.

neschria, you got it all right. Although my highest character is only lvl 54, i still find the whole raiding just boring. I'm pretty sure that i wouldnt delete my char. though because thats where my extra whopping 10pp per day comes from image . Maybe i should try another game...What games are there out there that are decent?

  • WarchainWarchain Member Posts: 6

I gave up my 65 warrior becuase i didnt have 4+ hours to put in a day to play

Because at that level you need to stay on at least 3 hours when even thinking of playing

And the newest game I am waitig for is horizons

Another good game i played was rubies of eventide

I just canceled my EQ account and will be playing Horizons  even though it has tons of bugs, that have gone unfixed...image

Bloody...this thread last talking was dating from 2003...

I am not even sure half the peoples who write in it are still coming to the site.  image

I always hate that peoples who where ''raiding'' spam the LFG command and paralyze the group building system with their nasty LFG because they lack leadership...the game should have ignore automatically everyone of any guild when 5 persons in the guild where LFG in 1 zone...it only kill the LFG system and peoples log off rather then build groups.

Vox is actually a very low end raid. And raids get old real fast, raiding guilds usually don't stick together very long because its exciting til everyone gets what uber loot they wanted and then they burn out becuase they have spent half their life waiting to get buffed or waiting for everyone to get there for a short spout of combat.

EQ survives because of the players excitment to GET to raiding, the raiding itself isn't what sustains it.
