I played beta, pre-ordered the game, played head start, and my pre-order finally arrived from EBOnline today (I think I chose next month shipping or something). Anyway, I'll be taking the game back to the store because I've found that I like soloing more than I thought I would. The only game suggestion I would make is that they should randomize some portions of the instances and they don't. There should be more randomly placed mobs as well as randomly placed traps. The big pull to DDO for me was the adventure. And anyone that's played the same instance more than once knows the adventure isn't there.
I don't dare slam Turbine because I think this game is right there on the cusp of real fun. However, it just doesn't do it for me. Like I said, I guess I like playing solo at times more than I thought I would.
I may go back and play WoW a bit or I may try L2.. hell, I may dust off CoH or Eve.. no telling. I like MMO's, but I don't ALWAYS want.. well, I don't like needing to group for everything.
Those that are enjoying the game (in game) seem to really be enjoying it. And good for them, I wish DDO well.
Just my 2¢.

When ACTION and D&D meet in a product, it is pretty much the same result as if "FILET MIGNON" (tender beef) and ICE CREAM meet.
An ACTION game with a D&D skin, maybe it will be a success, maybe some peoples will enjoy it, but I definitely will consider them like you consider pregnants women about food choices...in the best case scenario.
This is pretty much like if someone would buy Warhammer to make a version of "Sims Online". The D&D fanbase are not particuliarly drawn to ACTION games, trying to lure them with a "REAL D&D" is only going to anger the fanbase, since you are lying to get more initial sells.

I agree.
I really think Turbine have shot themselves in the foot here. There are parts of this game that I love, like the dungeons themselves. However, the fact that you can't go wandering through the wilderness or go soloing through your own dungeon is, in my opinion, going to slowly drive people away.
People will fall away from this when the free month is up. Only having the one town is way too limiting for a monthly fee. You can't help comparing it to WoW. That game has an enormous world and has the same (more of less) monthly fee. I am sorry, but that is no comparison.
Imaging if this game had a wilderness to explore or the ability to go off on your own and head into some random dungeons. They would have the best selling and best MMORPG on the planet.
Acctually there are wilderness areas that are about the size of WoW areas. I spent last two days exploring Tangleroot Gorge, solo.
I have been playing this since beta, pre-order and now still playing it. I agree with most here about there not being any "real" adventuring found within this game. The graphics are very impressive but that is not what will hold people to the game. Soloing would allow for so much more. The highly talked about combat system is very close to RYL (Risk Your Life or better known as the fake contest online). Even with RYL one could solo and lvl. DDO however has failed to deliver a lot of content and I know as well as anyone that first launch games have their fair share of problems. But, with DDO certain quests are now locked because of Balance issues with know real announcements as to when they will be available (Redwillow and now Tempest Spine). The other issue is the constant grind of re-doing quests to lvl or trying to find parties after lvl 7 is in no way fun. I have read reviews of this game and laughed at the score they decided to give DDO. Pointblank the game is lacking. However it can improve by the following:
If Turbine can do the above they would rock. Even though RYL had some major problems per say they at least had a story to it and a reason to grind the lvls to get to be able to play some of the Quests to continue the story etc. Either way the game grows tiresome and repetitive. I will most likely go back to CoH/V and wait until something else comes along.
