Square Enix is giving away Omikron Steam keys to honor David Bowie who had a pair of cameo performances in the game as well as a part in the game's soundtrack. Players can get hold of a single key via the Square Enix Store through January 22nd "while supplies last". Keys will be sent via email within two days.

Anyway to draw attention to a company...
It's not as if there isn't a legitimate reason for them to do so. Bowie had two parts in the game and wrote part of the soundtrack. =_=
All but they did.The only thing that holding them back is the word profit..No body wants to profit off a dead man will they? But anyway here the store and * Redemption of this offer shall require an active Square Enix Store account.

But I don't agee that the game is being given away. You need to use steam and register. If the game was given away it would just be an .exe file.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, "The Man" has obviously corrupted you too!! Where does it end?!?
Did you know that you don't even own the games on steam when you buy them? So even the games you buy aren't really yours, let alone the games you get for "free"

Boy, and here I thought it was a classy move. Way to rain on my parade. :/
Don't listen to these people, you're right. Honestly if they gave it away as an .exe file people would complain it's not in their 'steam library' for ease of use/reasons. People will just come up with reasons.
And of course you need a Square Enix account. First it's free, so you don't pay for it and they need to make sure they can control how many are given away. What if some bot person who wants to sell keys just kept putting in his email and got 1000 of the keys and went on to resell them on G2A or something. That would be even WORSE.
Don't complain everyone, this is a great thing for a very atmospheric game. It's not like we're entitled to it for free in the first place.

Apparently this is Europe only.
The link given is for European customers only but there is a US version. http://bit.ly/se_omikron is from the Facebook page for Square Enix, and can be verified if you need proof. It pulls up to the same page. Make sure to use the discount code 'omikron' without the quotes. Happy gaming.
Jealous is an ugly thing, and it casts it shadow over people that arnt going to be remembered......
I used to play that game.
But I don't agee that the game is being given away. You need to use steam and register. If the game was given away it would just be an .exe file.
It's free. Steam is free. You're irrational. **EDIT** Appears this offer doesn't apply to US residents.

Free wouldn't involve making people download steam, making a steam account, requiring a square enix account to promote their games, and wait in line for a few hours, and having to type in some code or pay money.
What does that have to do with jealousy?
I own this game, I loved playing it, but I don't like people pretending to be something they're not. I don't like when a company uses someone who passed away as a way to promote their own platform. As if they're somehow doing a good deed, even though it's all about making money, and they don't mind using tragedy to do it.
It's like Facebook or Google pretending they want to give free internet to "disadvantaged communities", even though the ultimate goal is to increase ad revenue.
This might all sound cynical to you, but this is how the world works.
If they wanted to give the game away, they could have, they could have made a DRM free link to an exe file, the same way GoG did it.
Simple.
If you ain't dyin', then you ain't tryin'.
EDIT: Went back and the option for promo codes was there this time, maybe the site is just having issues?
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
Personally i think it was a good idea, and a tribute to Bowie, as it happens i quite like Steam, and SE is one of my favourite developers.
