Albion Online will be updated later in January with the second major patch, this one called "Brutus". Quality of life additions will be forthcoming, among them the 'repair all' option. In addition, the first iteration of the UI overhaul will be released as well as an "undead theme" found in a pair of new dungeons.

The problem is they designed the whole game around the cash shop/p2w. They knew if they made the high end gear overpowered and require hours of grind every death people would buy the cash shop items and sell them in game to other players to grind all day for them.
When you design a game to have top level gear that can't be beat by average gear and include a cash shop to obtain it is pay to win or grind to win.
I hope one day they make the gear gap much lower and maybe some of these guilds will come back. Right now its a gear based game not skill based.
There is no cash shop in Albion.

Yes, there is. Quote from store page:
"You are free to trade your Gold to other players in exchange for getting Silver from them. Or, the other way around, if you want to have Gold without spending real money, you can simply trade away surplus silver or in-game items to other players for it."
Get a Gold bundle and gain wealth and prestige in the lands of Albion.
Set yourself apart with our unique and rare vanity items. Get an upgrade to Premium for faster fame progression, higher resource yields and many more. Or simply trade it for Silver with other players on Albion's player driven marketplaces.
It gets you more in game money, but that by no means guarantees success.
In Albion you still have to grind out the tree to unlock the item anyway. Just being able to purchase the item in an auction house won't allow you to equip it.
Theoretically you could buy enough Gold to avoid farming or crafting, but few players will consider that a great option.
I'm pretty sure that's a good portion of the people still playing. You either grind for 12 hours a day or throw down your credit card to pay for kids and people with aspergers to do it for you or you can't compete against those that do. With average gear it's almost impossible to win a fight vs something with top tier gear.

Ok you never played this game, stop saying bullshit please.
Look at the forums and gaming communities leaving Albion and they will tell you the same thing.
Enjoy your grind.
